Okay, there is somthing I have been wondering about and it really bugs me., why are so many people on this site so rude? this place is supposed to be for people who have a love a queen and want to ask questions and share thier thoughts, and for many people its a source of information that they cant get elsewhere. why is it that from what i have seen this is one of the rudest, meanest, bitchiest, whineyest and unfriendly places on the internet? the number of insults, personal battles and cheap shots that occur on this board are phenomanal. *keep in mind I am not one of the people in any of these battles, and have only had a hurtfull remark aimed at me once, so i am not doing this because i was insulted or offended personally* so what, somebody asked a stupid question, or one that has been asked a million times. is there really any need or reason to insult, yell at and condem them? not everyone has been on this site for a LONG time, not everyone is as big a queen fan as the next, not everyone keeps tabs on all of whats going on.... so when someone asks "where is john deacon" or "was freddie gay" just answer them or (when it gets fixed) direct them to the search option and tell them to look for it. this happsn to much, and people notice...a recent post of as off the wall question was ended with " i'll put this up for flaming now" because he knew that it would attract the eyre of the elitest groups on here there is no reason to be so mean to them, and there is especially no reason to insult them and condem them basd soley on thier spelling or grammer or whatever. many people on here are not english so when they ask a question, (over asked as it may be) and they have terrible spelling why rag on them? just ignore it. there is just no point. i just cant get over how mean and rude so many people on this site are. and there is no reason for it. so you know more about queen then another, maybe you have also been into them for longer. that doesnt make you or anyone else beter than another person. i know if i were a teenager and was just getting into queen and this was one of the first sources i found, i may very well have been turned off of queen, cause i would have felt that all thier fans are whining, bitchy elitest prats its this over the top sense of superiority that other groups of people use as reasoning behind thier actions..there are many groups like it, the ones that spring immedietly to mind are of course nazi's I just dont know what it is about this place, but i find my self constanly and more and more often, sadned by the attitudesof people on here, and have been tempted to stop returning, but of course i wont do that. anyway, thats my 2 bits, comment or not, i dont care. but many of you on here and you know who you are, simply use the anomity of the interest to justify your poor actions towards others. all that i have left to say is your actions annonymous or not define who you are as a human being, and I am sorry to say many of you on here have earned my pitty for your actions because you truely are poor excuses for human beings. |

I agree with you, generally. The only point I can't agree with is the grammar. I find it hard to read, and I'm sure non-English speakers do as well. It's a common courtesy thing. It bothers me especially when the person typing in such a manner has something intelligent to say (as their mode of communication makes them, in my eyes, look immature, and could lead to people not being able to read it at all). I wouldn't be upset with someone for using "then" when they should have used "than", of course ! Also, I realise that getting an influx of people adept in Internet short-hand, teen-agers, means that Queen are getting younger fans - which is really the only thing that will keep the music alive. I can't help being awful and thinking "you won't understand a word that's in it, but you'll write it out again before you die". Kids will grow-up (hopefully), and have to deal with their own younger generation (unless we act now and eat the children, as I might point out is an option). Also, I've been on MUCH ruder forums. And I mean MUCH. This place is on the friendlier side of my experiences. But, on the agreement side... People are apt to be so rude when no one knows who they are - saying things they never would face-to-face. A little like being drunk. I try to treat people like people, not like lines of text. I don't care if you're new to a forum, you're still a person and your post-count or time around shouldn't have an effect on how I treat you. Sometimes, I get upset, but I do try to be reasonable. I don't call the starters of the, in my opinion, insipid threads names or "flame" anybody. After all no one here was born knowing the secrets of Freddie's life (and why uncover them, anyway ?), or the 'truth' about "Mustapha" or who sang "Sheer Heart Attack". Though if some smart-ass reads this, they will probably claim they were. |

Standing ovation for you, Phill the Thrill. Despite the fact that I am one who 'suffered at the hands of the 9/11 bombers', I agreed with everything in your post. The attitudes here are disgusting and many have said they usually don't post because of those attitudes. If there is any wonder why the boards have been taken over by spam-type threads, I'd say it's because of the insults sprinkled throughout the legitimate ones. I'm happy you started this thread, though I fear it'll be just one more place for the flaming you mentioned. The post by Mr. Stuart, sadly, is proof of that. |

Why do people have to ruin good fun by being rude? I just joined queenzone.com on August 30th and I started my first forum(What are you doing for freddie's big 60th birthday?)and people start posting rude comments! If you don't care that it's Freddie's birthday then that's ok. But please don't post comments like "I simply don't give a shit"(excuse my French)I'm not trying to pick on anybody, but geese! If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all! |

I agree with most of what you said, and I'm glad someone finally made a thread about this. There's a difference between sarcasm and just being plain rude. But like Kelley said, I don't quite agree with the grammar part. If someone actually can't spell but you can see they're are actually putting effort into it, I respect that. But if it's something like, "OMFG, lyk tht iz so kewwwll!!11!", I won't want toput up with it. |

Mm, well, I've been to 4 forums in my lifetime, all 4 with differant topics, for example, this one is queen, all the others were different. and this is deffinitly the most rude/inconsiderate. The first one I went to wasnt moderated at all, and people generally were nice and considerate, but that was a major part of what the forum was FOR so it was ok. but there were some major bitch fights. I dont post there or visit. The second was a forum about harry potter (i know, Im a nerd, haha) and I genrally had a lot of fun there but all the mods were like evil dictators that HAD to get there power across, so me and about 10 others left and now we have our own private forum and we are ALL very very very very very nice and considerate and a generally very caring group, and thats the third. I dont post at the second or visit, and the third, Im there every day. The fourth is this and...well, let me just say that it is it's own forum. |

popy 31.08.2006 23:35 |
well why bother writing this topic? they will not stop...it's not the first time this is talked here it's good to have this discution sometimes to remind some people how rude they are |
DreaminQueen 01.09.2006 00:25 |
I agree that some of the rude comments on this site are rather caustic and unnecessary quite often. Sometimes however, its merely someones sense of humor, which unintentionally offends others. And sometimes certain topics need that type of spice, its called satire. Over all though, sometimes its down right hurtful. But sometimes you have to just look at the poster leaving it, and realize thats all they do, they're the mixers here to cause trouble and controversy. I'm gald this board is the way it is, it allows for great discussion et al. However, some things could be done without. But only people themselves can change that. As for bad grammar, if you know how to spell it or how to punctuate it, please do it!!! Even if its a valid point, i wont bother reading it because it grows frustrating to read. Typo's and simple human error dont fall into that catergory, as no ones perfect... |

Thanks Phill for bringing this up. I agree with everything you said. I get very upset when people insult others on here. I get so tired of the arguing and fighting that goes on here, that I don't even post or update my blog much anymore. I just don't want to get insulted. I don't want to have to be afraid of posting a question anymore. Once again Phill, thanks for bringing this up. :-) |

I don't blame you phill the thrill. I know that there are a lot of people on here. Not all, but some, that are mean. It bugs me too. I joined this site to learn more about queen and because I love queen. If I ask a stupid question, I'm sorry. I just feel hurt sometimes by people's remarks. I'm totally blind by the way, and sometimes people make rude remarks on that too which hurt. Thanks for posting that. Queen Mercury |

just saying the same thing everyone else has...thanks phill! i completely agree. it's music, not politics, what's more it's queen music, so it's meant to be fun! there's no need to come to blows over it. that said, there are also plenty of people on this forum who are always courteous and respectful. it really helps the atmosphere here, so thanks to everyone for that too:) |

It's becomming all to often that I've been calling upon the wisdom of Ghandi "An eye for an eye makes the world blind" So yes, I'm mostly agreeing with Phill. If people constantly be rude to others, what's it going to acheieve other than make them feel shitty about themselves, when saying something nice does so much more. |

The Fairy King 01.09.2006 07:22 |
Well aren't you a whiney little bitch. I think the people who have a problem with the attitude towards them should look at what their own attitudes are towards the board. If you actually KNOW how a forum works, then you will get the respect you deserve, but i'm afraid putting this little thread in the wrong section is the beginning of the end. You have to realise that when people actually react this way for a reason. Individually it might come across as rude or impolite, but you have to realise for people who are here for a while it can get tiring when a lot of people are making the same mistake. With so many personalities, different senses of humour and interests and backgrounds you can't get along all the time. And the handicap of not seeing eachothers faces isn't helping either. So if you follow the rules on here, there is no problem and people will treat you right(most of the time). |

John, talk about the pot calling the kettle black, your spelling is nothing to write home about. You've always been someone who I see as respecting the community at large, and always trying to bring knowledge to the board. While I agree some of Phil's word choices are strong, he's spot on with most of what he says. Can't quantify it, but for the vast majority of posters here, a witty response to a statement like "Brian's playing was at a creative high during ANATO" would be something along the lines of "FUCK U, OLD MAN, MADE IN HEAVEN ROCKS!!!" The disrespect is fine as it's the internet, but a lot of people want knowledge. If people can tell me why someone's opinion isn't valid, we'd love to learn more, but too many people here post idiotic responses which drags the board down. |
Mr Faron Hyte 01.09.2006 10:12 |

What does 9/11 has to do with Queenzone....?? And I agree that this topic officially should be in the 'Personal' forum, but on the other hand... I never read the personal forum, I only read the Queen related forums. So to reach all the people that this is about, the 'general' forum was the best place to post it. Have a very nice day... all of you. |
MrBdGuy 01.09.2006 11:49 |
I totally agree with you Phill. It's always easier to appear intelligent by criticizing everything and everyone. It's just so "cool" to be cynical I guess. I'm so glad I'm not the only person here who feels this way. I've been on a few different Queen forums over the past 12 years or so but this is the only one where I've had to give up posting because it always results in insulting responses. |

I agree wholeheartedly. And thank you! I joined Queenzone maybe about a half-year ago? The veteran Queenzoners can SOMETIMES (not everyone) be very rude. Particularly if you have the misfortune of being a teenager. I have only been into Queen for the past year or so. I have other things to do (such as exam prep) other than find out useful stuff to share on this board. I try but instead I hold great respect for people like Serry, whose knowledge of Queen is far greater than mine, and learn from him and others. Being 13 I worry about what people think of me, a weird girl feverishly researching Queen, I know it's childish and I should grow up and get over what people think of me but it isn't always that simple. So I wish that I could contribute more to discussions so that I could be respected and not just dismissed as a teenager. Particularly as some people are extremely rude in their dismissal. I'm so sorry for my long-winded response. As you can guess this is a sore subject for me! |

Although "I am sorry to say... YOU... have earned MY pitty for YOUR..." poor writing skills, this does not make ANYONE a "poor excuses for (a) human being..." whatever their own personable foibles may be. First: I indeed do respect the community, perhaps this should be re-read, as what I actually said was: "this does NOT make ANYONE a "poor excuses for (a) human being..." whatever their own personable foibles may be". Translation - the poster (or anyone else in here is NOT less than human). Second: I also said, "This is an internet forum (with the RIGHT to respect both freedom of speech & disagree with others - its called democracy)". Translation - We all have the right to agree or disagree, and that I do not need someone coming on here telling me I deserve their pity because I do not subscribe to their particular point of view. That in my mind is neo-Nazism - and NOT respecting the freedom of others. Hopefully, I am free to think what I like, and respect others the same rights and privileges. Thirdly: There is a world of difference between theft and the censorship of personal opinion. While my opinion may be considered immoral – it is certainly not illegal and to equate one with the other is non sequitur. Translation – I allow all the freedom of speech to say what they like, when they like, without prejudice or personal bias. I may disagree with it, and I may disagree strongly, But that is why these forums exist. Nevertheless, I respect such freedoms and baulk at those who come on here spouting otherwise. In otherwords: respect comes in many forms – and because I disagree with the original poster’s simplistic patronising – this does not make the enemy, however, the most dangerous werewolves are those who are hairy on the inside! Finally, my spelling is fine thank you – it is my typing skills which are the problem. |

Since John S. Stuart is a really good guy and has made good points, and PhilltheThrill seems to be sincere in his call for respect let's call this an end and move onto important topics like Roger's sex tapes and if Brian's guitar is home made. |

John S I am not trying to censor people, or tell them what to say/think/do i am all for free speach and would never seek to stop people from having that right. Then I noticed in this SAME FORUM (General Discussion) that you posted the following response: They WERE hot!!! Now I don't really want to 'bang' Brian OR old Chubbychops. Particularly as they'd be arrested for rape and I don't want that. Still when time machines are developed I'll go kidnap Rog and Bri from 1974 and let you know of my opinions then.If these kinds of posts would go away, and not just yours, but all of the teen-age "Queen is HOT, BRIAN is sexy", that would probably be a good way to stop being bullied around QueenZone. There is a "Personal" section for threads like this. "General Discussion" isn't meant for discussing which member wears colored underwear. |

I didn't start that 'Brian and Roger are hot' thread. But see that's what teenagers do. This, bizarre as it may seem, is the one place we can discuss Roger and Brian and their 'sexiness' because as their both well over 50 our friends think we're mad when we talk about them in that sense... Still thank you and I take on board what you are saying :) |
deleted user 01.09.2006 15:12 |
is there an actual, formal set of guidelines for what topic goes where? being new here, i got the impression that the "bri&rog is HOT" topic would go here, since it's queen-related, but clearly not serious. you can't blame people for not knowing all the rules and customs(god, a forum with customs? aren't we taking ourselves a little seriously? nyeh) right off the bat. yeesh, the topics have names, just don't click on it. does it really bother you that much? it's okay to point it out, just don't flame people...it's not worth it. anyway. long way of saying that hysterical fangirls are just as much a part of the fandom(what would beatlemania have been without them?), and they're gonna be here for a while(as long as queen is popular). |

I also think that some of these useless topics such as "Brian is hawt" "what are your 5 favorite songs" "Roger coughed...OMG! What's next? A sneeze?" are mistakes made by new posters. It's not REALLY their fault for not knowing what to post here or in the Personal section. Most of them stop posting such topics after a warning. However, some....I won't get into that. I remember on my first day, I was the one that made the Random Thoughts thread on the General section and "what are your 5 favorite songs" thread. But I also have another thing to say.....THIS IS THE INTERNET. AND IT IS ONLY THE INTERNET. IT IS NOT REAL LIFE, IT IS A VIRTUAL "LIFE." Seriously, You can't be on Queenzone ALL DAY LONG, posting new threads and posting in OLD threads. What I mean to say is that people will be people, and you cannot do anything about it. So if someone bothers you, keep in mind, that there is a barrier, whether a timezone, or an ocean or whatever, between you and that person. and just DROP IT! Leave it alone. Don't make a mess of it and embarass yourself. Some people need to take things a LITTLE bit less seriously. I hope I didn't offend anyone, and If I did...please don't slate me... :( |

Well...call me thick skinned, but I really don't have much of a problem with attitudes on this board. I've been posting on here off and on for about 9 month, and yup, you get the occasional idiot who posts crap about Freddie being a fag, and Queen sucking etc etc etc.... They're just trolls and should be ignored. I frequent a few other boards, mostly having to do with being a mom, and also for Christmas villages, and I think this is the most free speaking board I have ever been on. I mean, we can swear here if we want to- I can't on my other boards. I rather like it. If someone posts something insulting, you have two options- write back and confront them, or ignore them. I've done both depending on the situation. My $0.02... and BTW- bad grammar makes kittens cry. |

I am of the opinion that it can be frustrating to see the same topics coming up every so often, but I also take into account that new ppl join this board every day so we all should try to just ignore certain topics and let others join in if they want to. As for the topics that concern who the hottest member of Queen is or which member you would like to go back in time to have sex with, I find those very annoying and pretty embarrassing. Honestly, I think this is why the "teens" have a (so-called) bad reputation around here, since they choose to talk about these topics incessantly. I've even noticed that these topics are turning up in the Personal section, which seems unnecessary to me. I think if people learn to be discrete on this board, they are better accepted here. This was my experience when I first joined anyway. If people are more mindful of what others with think of their posts or topics, I think they will be better off. |
