I am discussing possibilities with Melissa how we Queenzoners can collect some money and help Kayla to get started. It's hardly imagineable for me how it nust feel to have lost each and every thing you own. As soon as we know how to safely collect and forward some cash, we will post here. I am sure many zoners are willing to help. Any idea or suggestion is welcome - mostly from US residents. If you want a first impression about what she has to deal with visit the website link |

Okay, I think I will share my "story". I don't want to drag it on. Of course, every hurricane that has come our way had gone right past us, so my parents were debating on whether we should leave or not. We were broke after paying bills on that Friday so we didn't have enough to leave town. We left at the last minute when the wind was whipping and we went, the only place we could go, was over the bridge to a house 4 blocks from the water...Our house was only 6 blocks from the water. The house we stayed in went out of power at about 2:30 AM Monday morning when it hit. The windows were boarded but the walls were shaking so bad we had to all pack in the living room for water was coming in. We stayed there a day and when the storm had blown over Monday night we went to my grandparents house which is a trailer and the entire front bedroom was nowhere to be found, since we live right on the water we weren't allowed to go over the bridge to our homes. I live in East Biloxi, which to say the least, is the poor part of town. It's set up just like New Orleans, under sea level, plus we have a Back Bay. The water from there and the ocean came together with the 40 foot storm surge and every house over where I live is completely leveled and left to slabs. My street there is still some houses standing, but they are all a hazord and are being bulldozed. My house was washed off it's blocks, onto the sidewalk and the roof started to cave in. The worst part for me, which I'm still dealing with, is we couldn't bring our cats. Two of them had just had kittens hardly a month before. We opened the front door and our refridgerator was in the living room, our TV was out the window and our bathroom, which was built on started to separate from the house. We had a boat and doors from the beachfront homes in our yard which they've sort of removed. You couldn't find any of the kittens unless you stepped on them in the 4 inches of mud througout the house. We found one kitten, alive and one big one, but the kitten died two weeks later. With the kittens, all together we had about 13 cats and we have 1 left. I lost all my clothes, C.D.s, books, personal stuff I've had all my life. It's completely devestating to come back to your home and see a huge red X and "Dead Dogs" spray painted on it. We have no dogs, but the cats that drowned were so full of water they were twice there size. I think I'm still in shock, I feel like everyday I just float around. I have no idea what to do from here, we are very slowly getting back on our feet. We went back to school last Mon. which, for me, was too early. I wish this was all over with and I appreciate you're comments with all my heart, thank you alot. Kayla |

That was incredibly moving, somehow its more effective reading a personal account like that than all the pictures that we see on tv. Good luck in getting your life back together, you are in all our thoughts. |
Janet 03.10.2005 12:12 |
Kayla, what an amazing story. Please accept my condolences on the loss of your kitties. That must be very difficult to deal with, on top of everything else that has happened to you. I will be praying for you and your family, and hoping that you will all get past this, and be able to rebuild your lives. |
Erin 03.10.2005 12:40 |
Kayla, I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I can't even imagine how difficult a time this must be for you. Just thank goodness you and your family are ok..:-) I know it may not seem like it now, but things WILL get better. |
The Real Wizard 03.10.2005 21:24 |
You'd have to be devoid of emotion not to be severely touched by that story. You've always got our support, Kayla. Don't ever forget it. Love, Bob, and whoever else agrees with the above statements. |
The Mir@cle 04.10.2005 02:30 |
I'm sorry Kayla... I can't even imagine how it would be to lose everything. But I can imagine that it hurts very badly. Well, the most important thing in live is health. At least you're still with us. It's time to move on now, and I'm sure one day everything will be all right again. Best wishes Martijn |
LiveAidQueen 04.10.2005 11:29 |
Yes folks, I'm still here and am trying to look up. I don't want to sound dependent on you guys. I can always get C.D.s back and other things later. I appreciate your kindness. |
Mr.Jingles 04.10.2005 18:24 |
Kayla, I just can't imagine how hard it must be for you and your family to deal with this whole situation. It's so horrific to think that you and your loved ones have lost everything, and yet you guys are just a few out of hundreds of thousands who have a tragic story to tell. What I found the most heartbreaking part was to hear about your pets. I've considered every single pet I've had almost as a member of my family, and I know you probably feel the same way too. My deepest condolences to you, and your family. I hope you guys have all the strength you need to stand up and carry on with your lives. I just wanted to let you know that despite the fact that we're not able to to see you in person, you will always have the people from Queenzone whenever you need support. |
