Yes I know the Smile tracks have had an official release some years ago (Ghost of a Smile) but assuming Queen now own the music outright, isn't an official Queen Productions release, digitally remastered etc, due? Outside of hardcore fandom, the general public likely hasn't heard much or any of it outside of snippets from a documentary. Surely there is some interest in a legit pre-Queen release of some sort? |

It's always time for a Smile release. The world needs to know about the song Earth. Whether or not it will actually happen is another story. |
dysan 29.08.2018 06:51 |
I think an 'early Queen' release would be good - and a nice place to put the Smile stuff. I think there is enough casual interest. The band has always mentioned Smile since their earliest interviews like it's part of what made Queen. BM was working with Tim recently so perhaps. |

Great notice. I helped Brian’s call to track the missing multi tracks . See my email below: On 6 Jan 2011, at 11:55, Queenman wrote: Dear Brian, After reading your story on the soapbox of the SMILE issue (Jan 1. 2011) I tried to find some use/helpful information for you that could possibly lead to the mastertapes of the SMILE recordings. I did some extensive research within my Queen and Pre Queen collection of books and finally found this information in the book by Mark Hodkinson - Queen The Early Years - ISBN 1-84449-012-2. This guy did some excellent research and interviewed, as he stated on the backcover of the book, over 60 close friends and colleagues of Queen. The book is to my opinion truly one of the best around; Recommended to read. Anyway... I attached a PDF-file with the information from the book and underscribed the useful bits with pencil. Hope this will help you and your team finding those lost masters. Stay save. |

Why not just contact the company that released "Ghost of a Smile"? |

I agree it would be great. I love Earth and April Lady. In a related note, Tim Staffel recently mentioned on his Facebook page that he played bass and added vocals on Abbey Road to a version of Earth recorded with Brian for the Movie's soundtrack. Cheers, Ogre- |

I would love a new release, hopefully with some additions. I wonder if there are any lost songs on top of the 6 known ones, and they can at least add the aMIGO tracks and hopefully a live recording. A stereo mix of "Blag" exists, right? I seem to recall it was more than a rumor. |
blueroom 29.08.2018 15:27 |
^ I thought Doin' Alright was the only one mixed in stereo? |
fruhzs 29.08.2018 18:32 |
Are there any rumors of an existing “earth” version with Freddie on vocals, like “Polar Bear”? Since they tried “Polar Bear”, it would make sense for them to try “Earth” as well. |
Woody43 29.08.2018 19:35 |
A nice bonus to a Smile release would be the live footage/audio from 1992 at the Marquee. I believe the whole of that gig was recorded on a hand held camera, for Roger, by Jacky. |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 29.08.2018 23:35 |
1992 footage would be great, even if amateur. So nice of Jacky to record it, I was not aware of this. Cheers, Ogre- |

Is it Jacky's footage of the Marquee gigs that is on YouTube, taken from the balcony? (where you can me down at the front!) :-) |

Yes, it's long overdue. |

'Is it Jacky's footage of the Marquee gigs that is on YouTube, taken from the balcony? (where you can me down at the front!) :-)' I don't know that was on Youtube, I'd guess that must be Jacky's recording. I'd guess there is no way it woulkd be released in that quality though. Brought back memories, I was at the front right opposite RMT's kit - I'll have to try to try to find the photo's. |

Wasn't Ghost Of A Smile sourced from Gettin' Smile? |
dysan 31.08.2018 20:33 |
Gettin' Smile incidentally dropped my jaw when I first found it in a shop. Like something out of Raiders Of The Lost Ark. |
Thistle 01.09.2018 00:33 |
I don't think there'd be enough of an interest tbh. There's die-hard Queen fans who know the history, Queen fans who just like Freddie, casual Queen fans who don't know much beyond Radio Ga Ga and then there's the majority. Personaly I'd love it, but it ain't happening. Btw, was "Ghost of" really, really an official release? |
Dr Magus 01.09.2018 11:13 |
Smile + Adam Lambert anyone? |
Negative Creep 01.09.2018 23:13 |
The Smile stuff obviously should have been on the anthology releases that were planned pre-2000, which they backed away from and chose to never release. I could imagine there are smaller labels who would be very interested in doing a Smile releases, because the Queen link is enough to sell a decent number of copies. I can't imagine Brian or Roger would be interested in licensing the material to anyone though.....? They both seem to have a funny attitude when it comes to releasing music. |

Earth makes up a part (5th section) of Nova Solis: A Suite on Morgan's album Nova Solis. Morgan comprised Morgan Fisher, Tim Staffel, Robert Sapsed (Bass) and Mo Bacon (Drums). Staffel and Fisher was credited as the songwriters for all of the songs on the album. |

Record Store Day EP would be nice in a spoof Smile Japanese sleeve. They've done Larry Lurex to death so I'd bracket this in the same... erm… kettle of worms. |

Brian doing Too Much Love I think... My memory is coming back, I remember leaving my hotel at around 8am to find the Marquee and the queue had already started. So I joined it and waited until the doors opened. The crowd was is a great mood and saved your space if you popped for coffee etc. Brian passed in his car and the crowd in the queue went mad. I also 'overheard' Martin (Rogers tech) mention the party at the Marquee Club. The security on the door was great - for the price of a large brandy (it was cold) I was in and managed to get my ticket signed by Roger, Spike and Tim. Brian was a no show... |

Farrokh Bulsara, known professionally as Freddie Mercury, was a British singer-songwriter and record producer, best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. He was known for his flamboyant stage persona and four-octave vocal range. crazy shooters free |
