I thought about this for a while then decided that I can't decide a best song. There's too many different respects in which songs could be considered the 'best'. It's a hard thing to get the head around really. Bohemian Rhapsody is the obvious choice, commercially, critically and culturally hugely impacting, as well as being a beautiful song and one of their best, as well as being largely shunned by some 'hardcore' fans simply because it's the one everybody knows. It's definitely one of their best, if not the best.
"I'm not asking what your favourite song is, i'm asking what is the best song by Queen in your opinion?
Explain why? "
No... ask something original and new

I would say the objectively best would be something musically sophisticated, but that is a value judgement isn't it? In any case, I would say something like Bo Rap would fit the bill.
We are the champions.
Overplayed now and taken for granted, but that is why the song is genius. Really simple but nice chord progression, easy to sing lyrics, great sing along show closer, upbeat. Anybody who wins a team competition will probably have sung this song.
It was even given the title of catchiest song (through what I'm sure was scientifically sound methods). See the attached link. link
Or maybe it is Bo. Rhap. for obvious reasons, or maybe...
After laborious COMMERCIAL thought: CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED LOVE.
1) it will ALWAYS sell
2) its jumping and positive
3) it will always be contemporary
4) given the path "music" is heading it will always br exhilarating but also be an example of people PLAYING music.
Therefore. It IS the ultimate QUEEN track.
Nevermind that my favorites are PROPHETS SONG. And DEATH ON TWO LEGS *for what they SHOWCASE of the breadth of the band. .
This one song will endear them to both. Women and meat head s
It will be their becoming in the 40th century and beyond.
If humankind conceives its sustenance and spirit on this continual course. .. then nothing will be left but FUN because all spiritual leanings will be satisfied by some THING. In a guise.
However. For the Artist. The great heart and the daring.
This AND "rock n roll music" (Chuck berry) will survive IN SPITE of all this CRAP
"I hate it when people try to pretend that art can be judged objectively. It just doesn't work"
I reckon it can. Most counterarguments tend to be subjective anyway (ie. 'how can you say that? I LOVE this song!').
You can easily make objective statements about a piece of 'art'. "The drums go out of time here", or "the singer was slightly flat there". The subjective part is - do you have an individual preference concerning those quirks in the recording? I love it when Bonzo lags behind the beat in Black Dog. It's fucking KICKING. Not many bands would put out a recording with that kind of swagger these days. It's so far off the tempo that there's probably a lot of people who simply think it's a crap recording that should've been redone, but these people are also known as cunts.
To clarify the difference -
Bonham plays noticeably out of tempo in one or two spots of the song = objective.
It rocks = subjective.
Awww sorry matt z, I didn’t know you esteem the Crazy Little so much when I did, you know

the thing that kinda “swing”. You have to forgive me, though. It was important for my further enlightenment in The Queen universe. For example, I see Roger in whole new light now :-D

Sure that God Save the Queen is the best song. At first, it’s the best song by default; why should people stand up hearing it otherwise? At second… the arraignment is just up to the occasion!
