I thought it was about Mickey Mouse's Pluto, but still, Pluto's planet state was controversial anyway... |

Boohoohoo Come on, it was either this, or our system having 100s more planets, seeing as there were phenomenal numbers of celestial objects with the same size and behaviour as Pluto close to it. |

Actually I never liked Pluto. Anything past Mars really doesn't interest me. |

I have several encyclopedias that have wonderful illustrations of the planets stretching out from the Sun, from now on they will all change in future books and a little piece of distant magic will disappear from our lives. Pluto was always spoken of as the edge of the solar system, now the edge gets a little closer that's all. It's more about the magic of old science fiction than pure science fact, sure the things still there and we can look it up on google, but we lose the fun stuff, like Flash Gordon and the thing from Pluto. I guess you had to grow up in earlier times to understand this, but before Star Wars, and Star Trek our universe stopped at Pluto |

Oh no! Not Pluto! It's my 5th favorite planet! Well at least they're keeping Mercury. I can live with that. You'll always be a planet to me, Pluto! I love you! |

I totally get the sentimentality towards Pluto, and I'm only 20. I'm going to continue referring to it as a planet *purely* to piss people off I think. Well actually, it'll be an intelligence test I suppose. Anyone who cares enough to lambast me for referring to it as a planet is just plain fuckin' stoopid. |

It feels like yesterday that I was watching Cassini bugger off to Saturn, thinking "screw that, 2005 is too far away". I guess I'll just have to forget about New Horizons, it's going to take so damn long... I'm dying to see Pluto properly. There's only so much Hubble can tell us, really. I think more visiting probes should deposit landing mini-probes, like Galileo and Cassini did. That view of Titan's surface was frigging awesome - I want to see more of the outer moons surfaces. I'd actually like to see how well a probe would hold up to being chucked on, say, Europa or Io. But anyway. Rock on astronomy I guess. |
