Does it annoy anyone else that Roger and Brian were so selfish in the early days that they had to sing as much as they did?I feel quite a few of the songs would have been hits had Freddie sang them.here are 5.
1.Long Away
2.Fight from the inside
3.Drowse
4.Loser in the end
5.Fun it(i know freddie sang some)
even all the way up to The Game with Sail Away Sweet Sister!C'mon Brian let the vocalist sing the damn songs.Sorry that has always pissed me off..had to vent.
I don't think they were selfish, they wrote the songs so they could sing them if they wanted to. It's not like they were terrible singers. I reckon if Freddie really wanted to sing a particular song he would have said so. Anyway, in the early days, Roger mostly wrote songs that suited his voice. I'm in Love With My Car was made for Roger's voice. And Brian let Freddie sing heaps of his songs e.g. Keep Yourself Alive, White Queen, Now I'm Here etc. He even said that he'll always regret singing Sail Away Sweet Sister himself. Personally, I don't have a problem with them singing their own songs, it just adds to their diversity.
I don't think they did sing those songs for their egos. I think they sang them because their voices added a certain feeling to the songs, which sung with Freddie's voice would not have been accomplished. Don't get me wrong, I still think Freddie was the better singer -no doubt about it but for those songs his voice would not have fit. If they had had ego problems, they would have sung many more songs, even songs that were most likely to become hit singles but they let Freddie sing them for the benefit of the band. I think their choices of who was to sing which song were very realistic and contributed to the versatility of Queen.
I'm gonna have to agree with nasty_queenie.
Songs like I'm In Love With My Car and Tenement Fuster would never work if Freddie sang them.

It would have been so boring IMO if Freddie had sung all of the songs. What's wrong with Brian and Roger singing a few of their own songs? It just adds some diversity, which is what Queen are all about. I think Sail Away Sweet Sister is a beautiful song, and wouldn't sound the same if Freddie had sung it. I also like TMLWKY sung by Brian better than the Queen version. Freddie is the lead vocalist, and I love his voice, but that doesn't mean the others can't sing, and it certainly doesn't mean their selfish if they want to.
It gives the songs great textures and draws you in, it gives it character, an emotion of where the words are coming from. There is nothing wrong with them singing, they both have a great voice.
I thought it was better when they all sang some songs...gave some variety and showed off their talents....if anything I was a bit disappointed later when we didn't get Roger or Brian's voice on certain tracks....Fight From The Inside and Loser in the End are brilliant Roger tracks
