What I've been wondering for a long time, is what the political preferences were of all queen members. I suppose they had to vote like common people, so... :)
They used President Gorbachev's hydrofoil when they came from Vienna to Budapest. But actually it wasn't Gorbachev's hydrofoil (though it was made in USSR) - that's a rumour.
Well, according to Phoebe, Freddie would have voted Conservative.
Roger, in the Cyberbarn video, mentions he's glad Tony Blair won the eclections (that would make him Labour)
Brian, well seeing how political he has become, and the way he raises his left fist for Hammer to Fall... I would say Left (not Labour, but maybe a little further to the left). No sure here, so don't thinnk it's true.
John... well seeing his ideal of clothes (I want to break free video)... Liberal?
it's in the Mr Mercury memoirs, penned by Phoebe.
To give you an exact page is going to be difficult. I do remember thinking it was an odd combination at the time too.
kenny everett did too.
but then again freddie was a bit of a sell out.
sorry!!!!
i respect his music and him,but if you look at the facts..it does seem like a little bit of a sell out.
homosexuals were certainly given a rough ride by Tory adminstrations in this country.
In my country conservatives are not really kind to homos, but my gay friends vote them. I don't understand it either.
Brian is an artist, a dreamer. What he says isn't really based on reason, but on emotions. And for me a millionaire is not really authentic as far-left voter. (Which he is probably not.)
In political issues Roger is smarter.
Well, on Happiness album Roger sings "an honest politician is just a contradiction in terms" (in a song called The Key, if I remember correctly) and I think that tells us what he thinks about politics. I think his relationship to politics is same as his relationship to religion: "they're just to fuck people up."
But when I hear Roger singing Lennon's Working Class Hero, I think he makes a statement there as well. End of discussion, as far as Roger is concerned.

I've always appreciated them for it. I wish other stars learned from them, especially here in Italy where it seems that if you don't shout to the world that you're a Leftist you can't make a good artist...
Instinctly I would think Freddie was a conservative like Peter says, but of course I can't tell and it's OK so.

As much as I like RMT's version, this song, sung by a milionnaire kind of sounds... not quite right.
Even when Lennon sung it, as he used to be very auto-biographical in his songs, it sounds more like self-indulgence than anything else.

I agree, totally. It's not very convincing when a millionaire rocker (who was also going to b a dentist once) sings this song. But, Roger wanted to put this song on the record, and I think he did it because he agreed with the ideology in the lyrics.
BTW, am I the only one who loves Roger's version of this song?? I think it kicks ass!

but Lennon was a millionaire when he wrote it wasn't he?!?!?!
No August, you're not the only one who likes this song.
As for the content of it, it's true that you don't have to be down and out to have the 'right' to sing this song.
Many examples are known: George Harisson, Richard Gere...
No, no, at the time as John Lennon wrote Working Class Hero, Yoko was the millionaire. :)
But seriously, Lennon's original background was more poor than Roger's or Brian's. Remember, they wanted to call themselves "The Rich Kids", then Freddie came with the idea, they should be Queen, fortunately.
