Hi guys... I was answering some guy's post where he called PenGuru a "newbie" and I was wondering which of you guys have been in here the longest. I don't mean it as a distintion or to see who's better. I think it was a good thing that Richard removed the post count. I know that there are LOTS of old time readers that don't post a lot. I'm one of these. I remember this and other related forums. Maybe Richard could help me remember? Before Queenzone there were other forums and people migrated from those when they crashed. I'm talking about 1999-2000 or something. Around the prehistorical age of Queen in the Internet. Rememeber queen-fip.com?, when the OIQFC page was actually interesting?, Queen Heaven? (great resource), OIQFC's forum crashing in 1999, the QueenRocker forum, etc? I'm not really old or anything. I'm 23 years old and I'm a Queen fan since 1992. I recently came back from seeing Queen and Paul Rodgers in Vienna, Munich, Prague and Leipzig (as I already mentioned in another post) and I met some fans that share some of my points of view. Let's hear it. Post here your memories. Let's remember when we also downloaded concerts in MP3, used Napster and played silly (but fun) games like "Guess the song...". hehe :) Sincerely, Wiley |

Hmmmm... I just thought this might not be the right forum to post this, but now that I think of it again, I don't think many of the people who could be interested in answering this (briefly or whatever) post there that much. If this is not acceptable, then I'll accept deletion as a final and cruel solution, haha :). Sorry.. W |

First time I came here, it wasn't Queenzone, it was Richard's Queen Page and there was the crest from ANATO on the main page. In the chatroom, you had to hit refresh to see the new messages, and the notice board was full of people who all liked each other (shock) and used ICQ to communicate off of the board. Good 'ol ICQ..."UH OH!" Around 1999, the notice board was a ghost town, then all these crazy folks from the QueenRocker board brought it back to life..causing some friction in the process..:-) |

If you go to the old layout you can see number of posts and the date of joining... link I still use the old board to check who am I talking to :) There you go- 2319 posts, since July 2003. Far from longest (far from long), I remember being a newbie and some ppl were here already for 2 yrears or even longer- on different board (queenrocker?) or something... C'mon- William have I think over 10000 posts at the moment!!! :) |

The fan club page used to have a message board which was divided into two "blocks" - the Stepfords and the normal people. Jacky got loads of complaints and the board died from the Y2k bug - the only case ever known. Queen fan LeftHandedGuitarist founded the QueenRocker board for the homeless posters while many Stepfords moved to QueenForever. QueenRocker suffered from various crashes and finally the QueenRockers all moved into Queenzone which was small and quiet and peaceful until the QueenRockers arrived by late 2000. QueenForever vanished after QOL was launched in 2001 and became the biggest Queen board. Queenzone integrated the QueenRockers and became the unruly alternative to the heavily moderated QOL board. In 2001 the Queenzone board crashed and Richard created a new one with the result that all posters were re-registered in two days, July 25th and July 27th. Every one else is a newbie!! (just kidding) I think only alt.music.queen has been online longer than Queenzone. The only regular posters from the pre-QueenRocker time are Richard, Erin and Pieter,Janet and Paulie. I remember many more and some are still around but do not post any longer. |

For a long time the notice board was not the only place where the queen fans could post on this website. The news page was a place where everybody could leave a message without being registered and post their opinions about the news items. Needless to say that the news page was full of hate posts and fights, virtually nobody posted anything about the news items - instead they hated each other and sent each other death threats. Queenzoner ChadHanging brought some of the more reasonable posters from the news page to the notice board. Infamous TED originally posted on the news page and moved to the notice board, too. Richard finally closed the interactive news page because it was out of control. The questions page was interactive for a long time. People could answer the questions posted by other users. Of course, this place was soon full of fights and hate posts just like the news page. Virtually each answer to a question led to 10 comments about the stupidity of the answer. However, some intelligent discussions happened in the questions page and the more reasonable posters moved to the notice board. Richard finally closed the interactive Q & A page... The Freddie tribute page was a place where everybody could leave a message about late great Freddie Mercury. Over the time the Freddie page became a place where depressed teenagers chatted with each other and told Freddie about all their daily problems, ahem. An Italian group moved into the Freddie page and used it as a private, unmoderated chat room. Today the Freddie tributes are checked and must be actually Freddie tributes to be posted on the website. |

Great story, Barbara... That's exactly what I meant, the series of events that led to this board becoming "THE place to be" if you wanted to read or talk about Queen. I specially liked the part where you say that "Queenzone integrated the QueenRockers and became the unruly alternative to the heavily moderated QOL board". Classic. I knew Queenzone since it was a small page with some news archive and Links with "The Game" images in the front page but I don't remember if it had a Notice Board or something. I don't remember much about QueenForever or if it had a forum. I was an "always reader, seldom poster" of the OIQFC forum, then went to QueenRocker, then to Queenzone. I think that by the time Queenzone crashed and everybody had to re-register I was not really into posting a lot because I registered again until a few months later. I think it was by the time I uploaded the Let Me Live MP3 because I remember having no credibility at all at the moment, hehe :). I remember other old time posters like fatty, Opposition, haole, Ian R, etc. Does anybody know something about them and what's happened to their lives? W |

I remember Queen-fip.com, the first Queen home page. State-of-the-art was very different from nowadays and they tried desperately to look 'modern' so I didn't find the art very Queen related. On those days, Queen's latest release was 'The Eye' game, and the website was promoting it. I was a member of the Queen Mailing Service (QMS) managed by Kathy and Sherry from the U. of Michigan. I'm talking of 1995... my goodness! |

I joined in June 2000, and I think the QR invasion had already run its course by then. I hazily remember when Haole got banned, and I jumped on the bandwagon asking for Haole to be reinstated. I believe it all started when a few "Queenforever" type posters got offended by something Haole wrote, and strongly demanded that Haole be banned. Shortly after Haole was banned, the moderator was out of town and a great hue and cry was sent to Richard. Richard came to the rescue and reinstated Haole, but Richard indicated his frustration at many Queenzoners (myself included I suppose) for having thrust him into this unpleasant situation. |

"I remember the times when Andy Young updated his site each month at least..." Was that in the 80's or 90's? ;-) I arrived in 1997 to queen-fip.com. Not an enjoyable place to visit. No idea at all when I came to QueenZone - I was aware of Richard's website but didn't visit it. I remember Jazz web and Libor's Royal Legend and that's about it. |
Wiley 04.05.2005 13:09 |
I had almost forgot about some of the former posters some of you mentioned. Great memories, indeed. Even for a "lurker" like me. I read these forums everyday but only posted when I really had something to say. Now? I'm just nostalgic, haha :). It's good to see that I'm not the only one since there have been many replies by now. I rememeber Andy Young's site, and the Jazz Web but one of the pages I liked the most was Queen Heaven. I would even dare to say it was ahead of its time (in Internet time, that'll be like 6 months ahead, haha). I mean, it had TONS of information, interviews, etc. Don't rememeber who was the webmaster, though... :S W |
Banquo 04.05.2005 13:37 |
Wasn't QueenHeaven Gary Taylor's web-page? I could be wrong though. |
Serry... 04.05.2005 14:03 |
I don't remember the name neither, have to check my old e-mails archive - I've recieved few e-mails from the QH webmaster, and there was his signature somewhere. And I remember previous Martin's (Mr Scully) site with all those rare mp3s (I remember there was file from Prague concert where Brian told to audience his famous Another World Tour story about buying guitar), Alex Smirnov's sites (he had few), alt.music.queen in my Outlook Express... Damned, how old I am! :) |
wstüssyb 04.05.2005 14:09 |
I remeber when there was no mp3's, and you could only d/l 20 second .wav samples from varouis songs, of course on that 14 kb dial up it would take 4 hours for a 20 second sample. I remember when this board crashed and would check the page every day for like a few weeks then gave up thinking richard went on a vacation and came back a week after it opened Or when PG and Taylor-mayed were on the race for most post, then it was Molly and I How Oppo was allmost always right, once he answered a question it was pretty much accepted and no longer discussed but to why that was so and so and every one thought he was John Deacon. Hate to mention it, but it has been like 2 years since the worse of the worse came to this page, pretty much brought 99.9% of QZ toghther, here it is we bitch like crazy, till something comes to our home, then we rally toghther or something, hahaha |
Two Sharp Pencils 04.05.2005 14:44 |
Queen Heaven was ran by Gaz... at the time it was the main resource of latest information during the AW & EF tours (equally to "wegotit" in these days). Of course that there were no BitTorrents, Yousendit or Rapidshare things in those days... Trading was the fastest and easiest way to get the latest stuff available. Andy´s site used to be probably the best resource of Queen information, along with QueenCollector (that didn´t use this name at the time), Jazz Web, Alex Smirnov´s site, Christian Haudum´s Roger Taylor/The Cross web site, Ferdinando Frega´s Queen museum, Freddie Van Ter Beek´s Queen web works (wow! that one used to be amazing), the old BrianMay.com site (ran by Jay if I remember correctly) and of course, Ron´s site which still remains updated quite frequently. QMS ran by Sheri Hurt was probably the best way to meet other Queen fans (and it still exists!). The old days... nostalgy just hit my door... |

Ah, memories, twas a sad day when Oppo left these fine sures for greener...erm shores... I've been here since late '99 or 2000, originally on the aforementioned news board before Chad brought some of us in, including 'dark_Stain' amongst others. All those names/memories, it was a beautiful time. |
Hank H. 04.05.2005 15:26 |
Funny how in the internet-age things that are only 4 or 5 years ago seem to be from completely different times. I have not visited this or any other Queen-related site THAT early, but came here in summer of 2001 - early enough to remember many of the names already mentioned, most importantly Oppo, who I actually got pretty much pissed off with in the first weeks because of his dictator-like behaviour and "British" humour I didn't always get, though I'm not entirely sure he was British... who cares. But then it became clear he was THE source of information, as well as THE source of priceless one-liners. |
Maz 04.05.2005 15:45 |
I did all that stuff YV mentioned, but I sure don't remember it in all that detail. I just remember posting on a couple different boards until I came to QZ in early 2001. One reason QZ has been so stable these last few years is because it no longer has to support the weight of Chad's posts. |
