Well it looks as though this might happen...a special 20th anniversary recreation of the greatest concert event of all time: Live Aid! Faithful readers of Brian May's online Soapbox have read there that this may actually happen next summer...and that Brian himself will likely be involved in some way, shape, or form. I was JUST thinking about if there may be a Live Aid 2 next year, and lo and behold i read it the next day on Brian's website! So what are your thoughts on this event possibly happening? Do you think it's a brilliant move, or a cash in? My fear is that it will become another show like the various "Woodstock" recreations they have done....these were sorely lacking in the originals feeling and meaning and were more like a slick marketing move. I fear that Live Aid 2 may turn into this. The saving grace that makes me calm my concerns is the fact that Bob Geldof and Midge are heavily involved in it, as they should be. With them at the helm, i am sure it will be true to the originals real purpose for happening, which was to raise awareness and more importantly funds for the starving folks in Africa. I'd like to hear everyone elses thoughts on the matter. Would you go if it happened? Would you want it to happen? What bands would you think should be a part of Live Aid 2? Now here's a topic of discussion in itself! And what about that long rumored "reforming" of Queen...would'nt Live Aid 2 be the ultimate gig to have Queen (WITH JOHN!!) perform again in front of the world? I for one think that THAT alone would once again steal the show for Queen. Freddie would be smiling if he were watching i'm sure! Now onto the discussion...let er' rip! |

john's retired. |

John is not a heartless beast... maybe he would do something for Africa. Maybe it's a good idea, though it would never become as great as in 1985. The music world has changed the younger people in this world only like the commercial shit like Black Eyes Peas en Britney Spears. I don't see millions of people watching Brian and Roger or The Boomtown Rats. |

that's why they have to play WWRY at the beginning and WATC at the end :) I would like to see this from Queen; Queen+ Paul Rodgers 1. Medley; We Will Rock You 2:00 I Want It All 4:00 Bohemian Rhapsody (Rock-part) 2:30 2. All Right Now 5:00 3. Radio Ga Ga 4:00 4. We Are The Champions 3:00 |

What has John not being a heartless beast got to do with him doing something for Africa? You have absolutely no idea what he "does" for Africa at all. Just because John would chose not to play with Queen if Live Aid 2 does happen, it certainly doesn't mean that he cares any more or less about Africa than in 1985 or at any other point in his life. Don't pretend that the artists appeared at Live Aid opriginally because of their conscience - they all knew full well what a boost it would be to their careers and how their sales would boost in the aftermath...... Queen knew this as well as anyone. Personally, I hope it doesn't happen, beacuse there would be far too much "rubbish" on the bill - just like last time. |

there are only 2 reasons I'd go to Live Aid 2. 1. To give money to a good charity (but right now, i cant afford to eat) 2. To see Queen play, and since thats not likely, theres only one chance, and i need at least 3 reasons! besides, i hate modern day music. all it is is the same word repeated over and over again. eg. my, my, my. my, my, my. Guess what the songs called? oh My, my, my. Its crap as!!! they are literlly all the lyrics, and it was like number 2 or something in Australia! i could write better shit when drunk and stoned!!! |
The Mir@cle 06.12.2004 05:41 |
"John is not a heartless beast... maybe he would do something for Africa" I don’t mean he is a heartless beast if he doesn't want play with Queen then. But maybe he would consider it because it's for charity. By the way, I've read that Bono will fight the rest of his life for the poor people in this world. His band gives him full support achieving this target, according to a Dutch source (link. Maybe he's willing to organize something. |

IF (and it's a big if) Queen played at a Live Aid 2, it would have to be Brian, Roger & John (John having came out of retirement for one night only). No guest lead singers. |
Deacons 1st Choice 06.12.2004 20:30 |
Yes, my thoughts exactly. When i first suggested that it would be perfect for Queen to "re-appear" at Live Aid 2..i of course ment for John to be there too! I would not want it any other way...and i actually think that it would be one of the few things that he would seriously consider appearing at. The original event had a profound effect on him and i think there's a very possible chance he might do a one-off with Brian and Roger for the event. So instead of a "Led Zeppelin" reunion as was the case in the original Live Aid, 20 years later it would be a QUEEN REUNION!! Yes!! Just for this concert, what a highlight that would be....let's just hope they play BETTER then the Zep's did at the original show! Ha Ha Ha Ha!! Hell, if they can do the flippin' Bajart Ballet thingy , why the *** not Live Aid 2??? |

< True dat. And 'Call on Me'. I think it has 6 words in the whole song. |
LiveAidQueen 07.12.2004 06:26 |
I think it would be terrible. |
Fenderek 07.12.2004 08:33 |
Agreed- that would be crappy event full of "hot acts" such as Darkness, Coldsplay, Travis, Oasis... Basically- rubbish... |
The Mir@cle 07.12.2004 14:15 |
U2, TOTO, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Maroon 5, Simpley Red.... enough potential to oranize a great event. |
Deacons 1st Choice 07.12.2004 21:31 |
Anyone else have some suggestions for what bands they would like to see?? |
LadyMoonshineDown 07.12.2004 21:33 |
The Mir@cle said... "John is not a heartless beast..." No, but he sure is a sexy beast. Woo! If you read this DirtQueen, you'll understand. Cheers to you all (and chicken) |
Small Nob 07.12.2004 21:51 |
"Suggestions?" Radiohead might be nice. |
LadyMoonshineDown 07.12.2004 22:02 |
Thats it! Chicken should be the main attraction at live aid. Because not only are they soooo friggin cool, but they could serve as food dishes for the hungry. Woo. Cheers |

Well, I'm only 16, so I can't really talk about the original event. But my parents were there, in Wmbley Stadium on that day, and they said it was an awesome experience. If Queen did something, and U2, and perhaps if some talented yet unsigned bands were dug out, then maybe we could see a recreation that summers afternoon? It'd need proper organisation, and with modern technology, concerts could take place all around the world over the course of that day? How cool would it be to have a world fighting poverty through music? I'd back it! |
Queenette=1 08.12.2004 01:22 |
You know my thoughts on this matter is that from what I have been gathering from my nosing around looking for things about Queen, it seems to me that these guys are in fact getting Old, Tired, and have contributed GREATLY to Many Causes. As a GREAT QUEEN would, and I think that what they want to happen in that matter should happen but I also think that they should take it easy! LONG LIVE THE QUEEN-ette! |
mike hunt 08.12.2004 01:49 |
please, no more live aids, one is enough. |
rachael mae. 08.12.2004 02:41 |
Hmm if they could organise it well enough and include some great acts, old and new, it would be a great chance for me to see some cool bands.. |
Lord Blackadder 08.12.2004 06:49 |
Well as long as the following people play: U2 Oasis Macca Stones Darkness Bon Jovi Scissor Sisters Queen Although some of those are doubtful. Queen should play: I Want It Aall Radio Ga Ga The Show Must Go On Rock You Champions We will prob only see Ga Ga, Rock You and champs thought. But I don't mind too much. As long as I see Queen on stage with the whole world watching once again, I'll be happy. And I don't care what anyone says, they will still have the best songs, sound and performance of the day even without Frederick. 'Coz Bri and Rog are the best! Hence the overwhelming amount of votes they got in the Hall Of Fame rubbish. Miles ahead of the rest apparently. |

Whether the line ups sucks or the feeling isn't the same isn't really the point. If there is a Live Aid 2 the purpose is to raise money, not to be some kind of cultural milestone. The magic may not be there, but it would still be an event. |

"Whether the line ups sucks or the feeling isn't the same isn't really the point. If there is a Live Aid 2 the purpose is to raise money, not to be some kind of cultural milestone. The magic may not be there, but it would still be an event. " here here! I can think of a ton of acts that could be there and totally rock. I think Live Aid 2 would be great |

I thought Brian also said that he would not want to do Live Aid again, and said "we shall leave it to the young ones this time"?? I hope he does not do that - as I think if it was just the current performers and such, then the older audience would not bother to watch it, and thus this could result in the loss of those donations. It seems many donated on impulse whilst watching the show on the day? But I think it should not just be the older bands we might love (such as Stones, Queen and such) - but the younger ones should be there, and even if we don't like the modern performers such as Britney, Anastacia (I like her though), Beyonce, or who-ever - it does not matter at all, so long as they are there and draw the audience in - the whole thing is they donate their time, and if it pleases the young and older audiences alike, then this is good. I don't think too many teenagers would be interested in watching Queen - (I am speaking in a general sense here) but if you have the young acts on, then they will turn on the TV dial to check it out, and hopefully donate a few pennies too. So you really need to have a balance of the older acts we love and the younger ones. I heard that Madonna is going to do it again if they do a Live Aid 2 - and love or hate her - it don't matter, she is a big draw card for people to watch the event, as is Britney etc - who all have big fan bases. Just coz it might not be our taste don't matter, the thing is that it gets the biggest viewing audience and raises mega-bucks. That is afterall the whole point of the excerise yes?? |
NOTWMEDDLE 08.12.2004 21:48 |
Pink Floyd would play in a heartbeat. Drummer Nick Mason said Pink Floyd will reunite if another Live Aid happens and definitely David Gilmour and Rick Wright will play and Nick hopefully will persuade Roger Waters into playing. |
NOTWMEDDLE 08.12.2004 21:53 |
Pink Floyd(David Gilmour would do it again, Nick Mason has stated "I like the idea of reforming for something enormously worthwhile such as another Live Aid or its equivalent" and Rick Wright would play) The Who Rolling Stones Rush Queen with Paul Rodgers Judas Priest The Darkness Iron Maiden anyone but Britney, in fact Britney's career is toast! |
