I have never really been bowled over by nu metal but Greendays new album has beaten me down with a stick. Im absolutely loving american idiot and boulevard. Just wondering where everyone else stands with nu metal right now? |
iGSM 25.11.2004 21:04 |
A big thumbs down. Although American Idiot does remind me of some people. |
hamsters 25.11.2004 21:19 |
I hate nu metal... I heard american idiot, stopped for a second thinking, "Oh, that'ss clever." Shrugged and ignored it. I mean, its clever, thats all it really is. The "genre" just makes me shudder and turns the look on my face sour... which is probablyu why i dont listen to music from the western half of the planet much anymore. |
iGSM 25.11.2004 21:27 |
Agreed. It's certainly good that there's an American band saying 'Wait a second. This country is a bit fucked in the head at the moment'. I'm sure there's more. I suffer from selective hearing though. |
Sonja 26.11.2004 03:26 |
I wouldn't consider Green Day nu metal. They've been around for more than 10 years now. I've never really liked that kind of punk rock, like Green Day and Offspring, etc but I love their new album. I think they've grown a lot. Look at their last albums, look at Dookie, that's the ultimate fun punk album. But hearing Billie Joe say that they're almost in the same league as The Clash and other legends makes me laugh out loud. They may be on the right way though but I don't believe they'll ever get that far. |
iGSM 26.11.2004 04:36 |
heh, Greenday and Blink 182, ha. They're just good as The Clash, the Cure and The Ramones *Sarcas-o-Tron explodes* |
pma 26.11.2004 08:08 |
Greenday isn't "nu metal" to begin with. I prefer the term "unbearable rubbish" or "whiney crap" over "nu metal". I fail to hear the "metal" part in those bands. |
Mr.Jingles 26.11.2004 09:00 |
Pma is right... Green Day is absolutely not NuMetal, but rather NuPunk. NuMetal bands are those shitty ones that mix rap with metal, like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, or Korn. An about American Idiot, it's one hell of a great album, without a doubt one of the best albums that have come out in 2004. To me the album is even better than 'Dookie', the album that launched then into stardom back in 1994. |
Mr.Jingles 26.11.2004 09:03 |
iGSM wrote: heh, Greenday and Blink 182, ha. They're just good as The Clash, the Cure and The Ramones *Sarcas-o-Tron explodes*As Sonja mentioned, Green Day is still on it's way to gain the status of bands like The Clash, and The Ramones. But I know that those guys are far better than The Cure. |

I didn't think they were any sort of metal but rather pop-punk. I think some of their music will be considered timeless one day and will be listened to even after 20 years or so. |
deleted user 26.11.2004 22:56 |
What a bunch of sorry losers, these modern rockers. |
hamsters 27.11.2004 00:24 |
I do have to say that I believe their quality of music has declined dramatically since the release of Dookie... |

I think they'll be forgotten in about 20 years time... none of these newer bands will be listened to or spoken about in 20 years. There are no legends anymore. Robbie Williams may remain unforgettable in Europe but that's all really. Bands like U2 and REM will be remembered. Maybe Eminem as well. But I can't think of anyone else... well.. Britney! definitely. She won't be forgotten! |
LiveAidQueen 27.11.2004 09:30 |
They all play too damn fast for me...It will never be considered metal... |
Music Man 27.11.2004 16:46 |
There is no such thing as nu metal. All metal died at the turn of the decade, when we entered an era only known as "the 90's". Joy. |

Well, metal is kind of broad, so I can see how some punk can categorize into it. There are many overlappings between genres. |

Music Man wrote: Well, metal is kind of broad, so I can see how some punk can categorize into it. There are many overlappings between genres.Yeah, definitely. The word "rock" is the broadest term we have these days for music. It is the only genre where almost anything can be integrated or removed, and it can still be itself. You can't say the same for virtually every other genre, as they all have certain elements; without such elements, they would no longer be themselves. Dance has the beat, punk has the power-chord guitar work, polka has the accordian, etc. |
tymd 30.12.2004 00:34 |
the clash did much better in '77 W/LONDON CALLING I dont think green days' music will hold up 27 yrs. |
Mr.Jingles 30.12.2004 09:46 |
Green Day has prooved with their new album that their own their way to becoming a legend of punk music of the same level of 'The Clash' or 'The Ramones'. Only time will tell if they will be able to hold up to the expectations. |

I like American Idiot. I actually haven't heard that much else from Green Day, besides their big singles from awhile ago, but I had heard so much about this album that I decided to buy it. Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, Wake Me Up When September Ends and Are We The Waiting are my favorite tracks, but I like almost every song on the album. |
Penetration_Guru 02.01.2005 11:43 |
Forgive me for ignoring your categorisation arguments... Heard this album, haven't deleted it yet. I've heard a lot worse. |

I can't stand New metal. I like Rock. |
veronica58 02.01.2005 20:00 |
i'm not the kind of person that will automatically hate a band based on its music category...so...in those terms, i'm always up for good music and green day's new album is pretty rockin. |
DoctorNine 02.01.2005 20:31 |
Yeah, it is actually OK, or at least some of the songs are. I like "American Idiot," "Holiday," and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". The others are kind of OK. |
Mr.Jingles 03.01.2005 08:21 |
'Wake Me Up When September Ends' has become my favorite Green Day song ever. I hope it becomes the next single from the album. |

Green Day isn't Nu-Metal it's Punk! Maybe Nu-Punk! :P |
Mr.Jingles 03.01.2005 13:17 |
I'm gonna have to agree with Fairy King and say that 'Nu-punk' is the most appropiate genre to call Green Day's style. Calling Green Day nu-metal shows that you just simply don't know anything about music. It's like calling Red Hot Chili Peppers grunge. |
The Fairy King 03.01.2005 13:18 |
Wow! Funny! :P |
