...Innuendo. Why? This piece of art was a no.1 hit in 1991, but have you ever heard it on the radio? Innuendo makes Bohemian Rhapsody sound like a children's song. The song is not in my personal Queen top 5, but I still think that it is the best Queen song of all. Innuendo can be compared with any of the classic masterpieces by Mozart, Beethoven and all those guys. Hard to believe it was written by Roger! I still think that it was created by Freddie and/or Brian. Some people say that Innuendo sounds like Kashmir by Led Zeppelin. I didn't find any similarities. In my opinion no Led Zeppelin songs can be compared to Queen. They are just too simple (maybe not Stairway To Heaven). Hope you understand what I mean. |
Brian_Mays_Wig 11.02.2004 15:16 |
Its not in your personal top 5 but you think its the best Queen song ever?? Eh? Anyway...Prophets Song. |
Penis - Vagina 11.02.2004 15:32 |
I agree Innuendo is underrated, but I heard it on the radio many times when it wasn't even a single here. In Kansas of all places. |
Hitman 11.02.2004 16:24 |
i hear Innuendo sometimes on my favourrite local radio station ;) the whole 6 and half minutes!! anyway i understand the point about Innuendo...it's a masterpiece without doubts! IMO one song that is unfairly underrated is "My melancholy blues"...fantastic melody, good lyrics, great piano player, wonderful voice. |
D.Blythe 11.02.2004 16:49 |
Going with my gut feeling, I think the most underrated song is "It's A Hard Life". Definately should have been a bigger hit. |
Holly2003 11.02.2004 17:14 |
You seem to be suggesting that radio stations under-rate Innuendo since you never hear it played. Well there's a simpler reason for that - it's too long. That doesn't mean it's under-rated just that a lot of commercial radio would rather play ads than a 6-minute song. On the other hand, many Queen fans under-rate songs like Drowse and Sweet Lady because they are used to a certain "formula". Sweet Lady has a time change that's unusual for Queen, but that's what makes that song so interesting. Drowse doesn't have the characteristic Queen "solo + catchy chorus." I'm in love with my car is also one of my favourites but I doubt it would make most Queen fans' top 10 list. Your remarks about Led Zep are bollocks by the way. No offence. |
7Innuendo7 11.02.2004 17:15 |
I agree, Innuendo is absolutely brilliant and probably the best overall tune Queen ever recorded. It shows off every bit of their songwriting ability and flat-out rocks. |
Whisperer 11.02.2004 17:18 |
The songs you mentioned are very good songs indeed (except the middle section of The Prophet's Song). Still in my opinion they are just very good songs. Innuendo is so much more than a good song. It's a work of art, just like Mona Lisa or Swan Lake. Hope someone understands what I mean :-) |
Mayboy 11.02.2004 17:23 |
couldnt agree more 7innuendo7 and Whisperer its such a great song and yet ive never heard it over here on the radio :( |
Mr.Jingles 11.02.2004 18:12 |
When I used to live in Colombia, 'Innuendo' received quite a lot of radio airplay. However, after a while they decided to cut part of the song, perhaps because they thought it was too long. |
Matti 11.02.2004 18:13 |
Innuendo is really the most underrated Queen song!? It is a great song. |
dragonzflame 11.02.2004 18:51 |
What's wrong with the middle section of Prophet's Song? I think it's awesome, especially on decent speakers. |
Simmer 11.02.2004 18:54 |
Indeed a great song... I hear it sometimes on the radio. |
Whatinthewhatthe? 11.02.2004 21:23 |
Come to think of it, all of Queen's songs were underrated, especially in the US. People in the UK and elsewhere in the world appreciated Queen's music whilst so few here in the US did. Queen connected with me when I was fourteen years old, the same year Keep Yourself Alive debuted, and I was hooked then and have been ever since! I appreciate all of Queen's music, the solo efforts and even the odd song fragment. Don't know if I'll ever forgive Brian and Roger's failed attempt at a Pepsi commercial though...even though WWRY was the only good thing about it! |
Saint Jiub 11.02.2004 22:36 |
Innuendo is a good song, but Innuendo is over rated IMHO - it tries too hard to be different and tries too hard to recreate the glories of Bo Rhap. Most under-rated ... Good Company Honorable mentions off other albums... The Night Comes Down The Fairy Feller's MasterStroke Bring Back that Leroy Brown see above Teo Torriate All Dead, All Dead In Only Seven Days Don't Try Suicide Football Fight Action This Day Keep Passing the Open Windows Pain Is So Close to Pleasure Rain Must Fall Delilah Made in Heaven |
Shane Jazz 11.02.2004 23:20 |
Keep Passing the Open Windows is a candidate. It possessed all the Queen trademarks: piano, great vocals, wonderful guitar, kick ass hooks...It's a shame Queen didn't even play it live as part of a medley... |
Lester Burnham 11.02.2004 23:26 |
Probably would have been a great single, too. |
Guy 11.02.2004 23:48 |
I don't think Innuendo is underrated at all. The Prophet's Song\You Take My Breath Away\Dragon Attack are great songs but very underrated, in my opinion. |
Trisonic77 12.02.2004 00:00 |
I think "Man on the prowl" is very underrated. So what if it sounds a lot like crazy little thing called love. Most groups only have one sound any way. I think this song would have been a hit in the late 50's to early 60's! |
akindofmagic 12.02.2004 00:42 |
Innuendo For sure, but not on fan camp... Other underrated are Friends will be friends( a great hit song back in 1986,but now both fans and press seem to hate this fab pop tune),spread your wings(someone can explain me how this was not a monster hit) and Made In Heaven(why in this world they didn't chose this as a single back in 1995/96?) |
Lawyeris 12.02.2004 01:09 |
Agree, Keep passing the open windows is one of the most underrated songs...ever. Also I could mention Was it all worth it. Both of them would be great singles. |
PD. 12.02.2004 01:42 |
Sweet Lady, Don't Try Suicide, Fat Bottomed Girls, Bicycle Race: These songs are often criticized by people for its lyrics. Being not a lyrics-oriented I find them quite enjoyable/strong songs. Bicycle Race should be widely discussed as musically the most complex three-minute pop-song. I also think that "Who Needs You", "Jealousy", and "In Only Seven Days" "My Melancholy Blues", "Dreamers Ball" are horribly underrated when being referred as fillers. With a little luck "Dreamers Ball" could have became a "standard". I personally think the guitar intro/outro of "The Prohets Song" should be an as ultimate favourite among young guitar players as "Stairway To Heaven". I find the eighties albums of Queen are also underrated in context of their contemporaries. Most of them could be rated easily as top 3-5-10 of the actual year. "No One But You" is another underrated song IMO. For me that was the most memorable tune I heard on the radio that year. "We Are The Champions" is another underrated song. Of course not in terms of airplay. I think people should listen to this song with headphones paying attention to the MUSIC. People hear this song a million times, but they know hardly anything about the hidden musical treasures of it: the melodic bassline, the guitar arrangement, that short instrumental section before the second verse... |
Mr. Scully 12.02.2004 02:29 |
Body Language is pretty much underrated. Most people think it's crap but they're wrong. Body Language is in fact a big pile of crap. |
Fenderek 12.02.2004 03:29 |
LMAO @ Scully IMO- Dragon Attack / White Man / It's Late / Prophet's Song / White Queen / Flick Of The Wrist Those are killer tracks, decent tunes yet not many ppl even know that they exist (general public I mean...) |
Azmandaman 12.02.2004 03:55 |
Jealousy is pretty deep!! That song didnt get the Beatles Let It Be treatment... why???! if it was more publicised in the fast lane of pop like the beatles then it will surely beat the Beatles stuff. And cool cat,, thats the most greatest,, chillest, coolest black boy tune to be played by white boys, not only that it was made and created by our own Royal of rock! Queen how versatile are these lads they can fill almost all your musical needs! Big up! |
Dances With Freddie 12.02.2004 05:53 |
I pretty much agree with you all. and yes, Innuendo is art. but I think White Queen is underrated. it's one of my absolute favourites. |
Farlander 12.02.2004 06:15 |
Innuendo is a great song, but comparing it with Mozart and Beethoven is taking it way too far. Personally, I think the most underrated Queen song is "Dancer." |
The Mir@cle 12.02.2004 06:40 |
|
The Mir@cle 12.02.2004 06:41 |
Queen has a lot underrated songs. I think the problem is that a band can only have one hit at the same time. If you make so much great numbers like Queen did, there are songs that don’t reach the publicity. Innuendo is underrated, but is known by a lot of people. Jealousy and Is This The World We Created great songs too, but a lot of people doesn't even know they excist. That's what I call underrated! |
Hank H. 12.02.2004 07:21 |
"Innuendo can be compared with any of the classic masterpieces by Mozart, Beethoven and all those guys." Sure it can, and when you do it, you see they have nothing in common. I'm sick of those comparisons. Mozart composed more than 600 pieces, concertos, operas and so on. Not four-minute-rock-songs. Big pieces with several movements and dozens of instruments. You can construe thousands and thousands of songs out of that melodic material if you want. Not to talk about the quality of what he produced. He died when he was about 35 years old, so he didn't have much time for that. I like Innuendo though. |
Lawyeris 12.02.2004 08:30 |
Queen themselves are underrated, they had to be much more popular in general than they were. If White Queen album version sound like it did in concerts, then I agree - White Queen would be the most underrated song of all time through the space ever... But know album version IMO is far far away from the Live one. |
Grahame 12.02.2004 08:30 |
For me, You & I is the most underrated Queen track of all time - sheer genius song G. |
Sonja 12.02.2004 09:41 |
Innuendo is a masterpiece! Absolutely brilliant, one of my favourite songs ever. I have never heard it on the radio nor have I seen the video on TV. But in Germany most great bands are underrated anyway... |
Ogre_Battle 12.02.2004 09:46 |
How can a #1 hit in England be underrated? The most underrated Queen songs are: Liar March of the Black Queen In The Lap of the Gods Revisited... |
Iam the one 12.02.2004 09:49 |
Liar March of the Black Queen In The Lap of the Gods Revisited... aaaaaaaaa |
Mr. Scully 12.02.2004 10:34 |
March is not underrated. Look at fan polls, it's among Top 3 or Top 5 everywhere. We know what a jewel it is. Only "the others" don't know it but that's because they haven't heard it yet. |
thanks freddie 12.02.2004 11:00 |
I do think that Innuendo and march of the black queen are underrated, both are beautiful songs and are with boh rap in my top 5 |
Daburcor? 12.02.2004 11:06 |
Dreamer's Ball. |
Fenderek 12.02.2004 11:08 |
I AGREE! Dreamer's Ball is awesome!!! The whole JAZZ album is quite underrated...I can't understand it... |
Sebastian 12.02.2004 11:23 |
I think March Of The Black Queen is only second to Bo Rhap as the song that attracts more fans, or the song that turns more listeners into fans. And the main cause of Queen II to be the favourite album of most fans (including Axl Rose, Nuno Bettencourt and Gary Cherone) Many Freddie's songs are underrated because he made them look much simpler than they actually are. That was part of his expertise. Bicycle Race and Mustapha are some examples. Many aspects of the songs are under-rated or under-noticed. For example in Brighton Rock, everybody knows about the guitar solo in the middle, but very few people notice a wonderful fast bass-line, some awesome drumming and a superb rhythm guitar work that in my opinion is more impressive than the solo. In general terms Queen and specially Freddie are vastly under-rated. Freddie as singer isn't, but is a lot as songwriter, pianist and musician in general. |
Future Manager 12.02.2004 14:02 |
The Millionaire Waltz. Freddie's most brilliant song...? That I have to mention it this far into the topic shows how much it's underestimated. |
Ms.Lurex 12.02.2004 15:11 |
i would say "fairy feller" "white queen" and all the others yall already said :) |
Kuku 13.02.2004 01:45 |
Most Underrated in My Book (1) Flick of the Wrist (2) Innuendo (3) The Prophet's Song (4) ALL of Queen II tracks (cries) (5) Liar (6) Fat Bottomed Girl/Bicycle/tracks from Jazz (7) Spread Your Wings and Play the Game And many more - in fact, Queen is almost unknown in where I am. |
goinback 13.02.2004 02:28 |
I would like to put my $.02 in for "Procession" once again. :) |
Acathla 13.02.2004 03:59 |
Don't try so hard is a very underrated song in my humble opinion. |
Azmandaman 13.02.2004 04:18 |
About Inuendo, Freddie most dramatic move,, am glad its underrated cos I dont expect all them pop viewers to understand lol! Never took that song lightly as I know he must of been really ill recording it, and he is Questioning the reasons of life using the Heaviest artistic musical structure to date,, Inuendo to me doesnt have the competitve feel to be the best than other Queen songs,, that song is a prophet in its self, so is the whole freakin album I think. yeah all Queens mellow acoustical vibes are underrated. Jealousy Dreamers ball who needs you doin alright meloncholy Blues but hey Love of my life done well yay!! |
goinback 13.02.2004 05:46 |
"Good Company" is a masterpiece IMHO...that's one people don't seem to talk about much. The mood goes from happy to sad to insane (the over-the-top music at the end seems to represent the character's insanity to me), all within just a few minutes. Someone very skilled has to write a song like that. |
iGSM 13.02.2004 06:57 |
I'm a great advocate of Man on the Prowl. It's very Elvis-y and when I had a friend listen to it she said 'Wow, I didn't know Elvis could sing that high'...then I punched her and invaded her dreams..then I put her head in a T.V...last year I actually battled Jason Voorhees and I won. |
javier fernández 1919 13.02.2004 09:51 |
You are forgetting a good one... WAS IT ALL WORTH IT! It could have been a hit. Cheers, Javier |
agneepath9 13.02.2004 10:00 |
"Body Language is pretty much underrated. Most people think it's crap but they're wrong. Body Language is in fact a big pile of crap." Mr. Scully... i sooooo agree with you! Queen's most underated songs are the non-singles, especially 70s songs Prophet Song especially. You and I, Millionaire Waltz etc. |
hoopdiddydiddy 13.02.2004 14:53 |
how about love of my life, that's one of my favourites |

Reread my post IE, on page one - I already did list Who Needs You as being under rated (and someone else did too I think), but don't worry ... I also think Body language is underrated so I am lacking a little bit in the credibility department ... |
Banquo 14.02.2004 05:52 |
I think we all know my opinion on Good Company after the "finest 40 seconds ever" thread. It is an amazing song words can't describe how good it is but I'll go on each band member. Freddie - Keep Passing The Open Windows, How this wasn't released as a single is beyond me. John - Backchat, Catchy as hell, nice drum solo and a killer guitar hook and solo. Brian - Good Company, that last 30 seconds enough said really Roger - Drowse, a nice departure from the norm as Queen use slide and make it sound hypnotic. |
The Black Queen 14.02.2004 16:54 |
I'd say Back Chat. It's great, I LOVE it. |

As for underrated songs go: Teo Torriate You and I Jealousy Leaving Home Aint Easy Keep Up The Open Windows (I used to dislike that song) A Night Comes Down My Fairy King Drowse All God's People |
