Everyone - AN ASTOUNDING REVELATION!!! We are NOT the only Queen fans out there!
I was digging up the archives of a message board of which I am a member. It was some sort of frontman Survivor game that they made up. Dear old Fred was on the list.
Well, someone voted for Freddie to be booted off fairly early in the game. They received the following responses:
"Man, we're supposed to be voting off the worst one, not the best."
"What drug are you taking?"
"You vote Freddie Mercury off first? Are you fucking tone-deaf?"
"*SHOCKED AND HORRIFIED*"
"Man, do you like annything GOOD?"
"How dare you!"
A bit of an overreaction, but very amusing.
Even by non-fans, Fred gets a lot of respect as a vocalist. As, in my current atmosphere, I don't see it often, it's always nice to discover it in the most unusual of places - in this case a freak-ridden message board that's not Queen-related.
Frontman Survivor is where someone who has an inspiration sets up a topic with a list of lead singers. In this case, other than Freddie, John Lennon, Robert Plant, Mick Jagger, Roger Daltrey, Kurt Cobain, Bono, Natlie Merchant, Michael Stipe, Eddie Vedder, James Hetfield (sp?), Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Andy Wood (have you figured out what kind of board this is yet?), Lou Reed, Brian Johnson (but no Bon Scott >:-() and that chick from Sleater-Kinney. Then the posters vote off the singer that they think is the worst for each round of the game, until there's only one left.
It's a totally benign, harmless game. :)
Freddie did not win.
Crhis Cornell and Eddie Vedder were the only two left by the time I found the game. Before you pounce on it, it's a Pearl Jam fan board, and to their credit, I think Chris Cornell ended up winning.
MotQ - you got it! Personal section! link
(Out of fariness to everyone else, I didn't put Freddie.)
