I hardly have any time lately but I decided this upgrade of Madrid (thanks to Messina!) needs some work to look (and sound) better. Alright. Here's what was done - * Audio track is replaced with a mix of TVE video from Snow's DVD and rtve.es webrip also from Snow's DVD. Anyone who is willing can replace the audio with anything that's better in their opinion. That can be done very easily with a free software called MKVMerge. After all, my specialty is video side of things :-) Now, to the video side - * This video has a slight ghost which you might have not noticed, but it's there. It looks like a faint double image shifted to right if that makes sense. Whether you notice it or not I removed it anyway. https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/95d4/qzbg35qj94pk2qg7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> * The white dropouts are removed. https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/8366/ckcz11m42jzy28s7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> * Now the annoying static line. I did manage to reduce it for the most part, in some frames where it's strong it can still be seen. You'll see what I mean once you watch it. https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/6348/zcc2ycc9cp0lcr17g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> The bad thing that I should mention is that it has slight banding. I guess you won't notice it though if you don't look too closely. Although I have no idea how this would look on a TV so who knows. I didn't use a debanding filter because the source video, as good as it is, is pretty soft looking and slightly washed out if you know what I mean. Debanding would make it look more soft and artificial which I didn't like. Debanding works well for some videos, this is not one of them :P Would just make it look more like painting. Anyway, here goes. https://mega.co.nz/#!Hd83ibaC!KdKqBz6nd45ukSRgkDLADCEtnVFCMMCQ0pg7UdetFvw Enjoy! |

Wonderful restoration. Regarding the show itself, not Chief's work on it - was Freddie's piano mic just not working for the first verse and chorus of Somebody to Love? Also, why does everything except Brian's guitar solo drop out for a moment? |

That's just someone noodling with the instrument levels. They must have had the audio multi-track at their disposal, and decided these edits were worthy of broadcast. It was the 70s.. Thanks, Chief Mouse - this looks fab ! But is this the best possible audio source? I think I've heard better ... dare I say, the Snow Productions version? But his DVD came from somewhere. Let's find the best source, folks. |

Or you mean, there is a better audio source than his DVD? Let me know. It's easy to sync, add or remove audio streams to these MKV videos. I can do it and do a re-upload. Or anyone else can do it without re-encoding using a program called MKVMerge GUI. |

Thank you Chief, Wizard and Nitroboy. I wonder if Chief's first video was that large (almost 1GB)? Chief's videos are often light in size. |
Nitroboy 27.09.2015 13:07 |
You have to keep in mind that it's ~25 minutes long With a bitrate somewhere between 4-5Mbps, it will be about that size. |
BETA215 28.09.2015 21:02 |
Hi! I must explain you something before giving you the video: This report was broadcasted by TVE (Televisión Española, or Spanish TV), and RTVE (the logo showed in the upper part of the screen) is a website by TVE which shows archive footage. This video is taken from RTVE.es, specifically from: link. I found the stream link of the video, which is from where I downloaded it. Here you have the original source of the video: link |
BETA215 28.09.2015 21:13 |
I think that the only source that could be better than this one, it's a VHS recorded from that original 1979 broadcast. The enhancements that we can do later are great, but they can't add the lost info in the 94kbps audio stream of this video. ![]() |
hobbit in Rhye 29.09.2015 11:45 |
Thank you Beta ^^ I can see the right "ghost" in the source video now. |
Chief Mouse 29.09.2015 12:15 |
I'm familiar with this source and website, I think it popped up on here a while ago. Reason I never used it is because the frame rate is choppy, it is quite compressed and it has a fairly big logo. It does come from a lower generation source but the cons outweigh the pros so all in all I consider it worse than this processed version (shared by Messina by the way). If anyone wants to correct the frame rate issue, remove the logo by masking it with a frame accurate no logo version and do the compiling work then go for it. But I don't think it will look that much better than this current version so not sure it's worth all that time. |
Nitroboy 29.09.2015 13:27 |
Yeah, I remember watching the version on their website, and thinking to myself that it looked worse than the best VHS sources. |
BETA215 30.09.2015 18:30 |
I shared it because Wizard was searching the source of the RTVE's audio, or at least that's what I understood (since it seems to be quite better than the VHS audio). |
QueenAllTheWay 22.02.2019 03:13 |
anyone made a translation to this? if not, then i'll probably make one. |
