I thought Lambert was now concentrating on his solo career and finishing off/releasing his third album next year? Now he may still be working with Brian and Roger? Maybe the announcement is that Brian and Roger were so happy working with archive material that they are now concentrating on the 'book-end' projects. A full set of live albums to be released (one a year) up to around 2020 (each done in the same style as Rainbow so given the full multiple release styles with DVDs, Blu-rays and deluxe box sets. For the finale, 4 large comprehensive studio archive box-sets compiled from the work that Greg Brooks has put in over the years. Each box-set to contain 10 CDs with around 150 tracks. Due to be released starting 2016 - one a year. :) No....it will be a tour announcement...of course :( |

Wow. How things change! Suddenly we're disappointed at the prospect of Queen + X announcing a tour??? I still remember December 10th, 2004. First Queen tour in 19 years was announced. 10 years and 11 shows later, I'm still thrilled at the prospect of them touring. Do you think they'll add some tracks off Queen Forever to the setlist? |

It's the two people who formed Queen playing Queen songs. Is Yes a cover band now? Chicago? Journey? Pink Floyd? Who makes these executive decisions over what a cover band is and isn't? Does anyone remember 10-15 years ago when people would have killed to have Brian and Roger play together in ANY capacity? Not tour. Just play. How exciting it was when Brian joined Roger at a solo show in Wolverhampton 1999 for three songs, or when they played six songs together on the tenth anniversary of Freddie's death? Since then they have done several world tours, but some people will just never be pleased. Even if they performed a resurrection people would still complain that Freddie had aged a bit. Another news flash - 15 years from now, virtually all of the members of rock bands from the 60s-70s will be dead or retired. Enjoy what you can while you still can. |

Paul Rodgers is back? Wish he was because I have no intention of seeing Adam Lambert front the band. He killed the Sonisphere gig in 2012. I thought the Queen Extravaganza was formed because 'Queen' didn't tour anymore. Surely this a case of where the cover band is better than the present incarnation of the band because Martel is superior to Lambert as a vocalist and frontman. |
Hoopsie 27.09.2014 06:23 |

Russian Headlong, remember that a band also has other members besides the vocalist. Those happen to be B and R. And others too, of course, but I don't care much. About Queen Extravaganza, I saw them twice when Jeff Scott Sotto was a member and he outshined Martel and everybody else by miles. Jeff is brilliant, Martel is very good as well, but guess who B and R chose to work with? Some Lambert guy. It is their band, so maybe they can choose? And I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by Adam on the last tour. I would give (another) rib to see them live again, as I broke one during the US tour. Cheers, Ogre- |

It's perfectly acceptable that different people have different opinions. 15 years some people would have been happy to see Brian and Roger performing as Queen, and some people wouldn't have accepted it as Queen without the same four people who had recorded all the albums. Today some people are happy to see Brian and Roger perform (as Queen) with anybody, and some people still think that the name Queen should be preserved for the four people who formed the legendary band. It's entirely a matter of personal opinion, and neither opinion is more right than the other. From one point of view the train for "Brian and Roger playing together as Queen before it's too late" passed 23 years ago, and them pretending to still be the same band (with only half of the members left) makes them the ones who are deluded. It doesn't take away their legal right to use the name, the commercial success involved with using the name, or even make them a cover band... It does however take away much of their artistic credibility, and portray them as a group who are willing to provide a live karaoke backing track whenever there is enough profit. (Any of these days I expect to hear some oil billionaire has rented them out as a karaoke backing band for a birthday party.) |

I dunno. The biggest criticisms people tend to make of tribute bands is that they're living in the past and pretending to be something they're not. Any artist, no matter how fucking great I think they are and no matter how good they are at their job, is basically doing that very thing if they're primarily playing stuff they did 30-40 years ago. There's no new music really being made here. I'm glad Brian and Roger are still playing, I just think people should be realistic about what it is that they're seeing, that the band we're seeing is not really 'dangerous' (Brian's words, not mine) and that some people aren't going to be into that. And I say this as someone who would've gladly paid to see them if I was in town on the gig night! |
john bodega 28.09.2014 02:37 |

He seems quite happy with that now though! Well let's be fair. QPR toured UK/Europe in 2005 and then North American in 2006 before starting work on Cosmos Rocks. QAL is on a similar trajectory. Not counting 6 dates in 2012, they had a full tour of NA in 2015, apparently, a full tour of UK/Europe 2016. If they tour the US again or do another tour of Europe/UK without new material THEN that argument would hold water.... |
SweetCaroline 28.09.2014 11:14 |
soxtalon, I think you meant to say a full tour of NA in 2014 and, apparently, a full tour of UK/Europe in 2015. YAFF, I was kidding. I don't think Adam would ever be too busy to pass up another chance to tour with what he calls "rock royalty!" I think Marc Martel is great and I enjoyed him and the others in QE when I saw them in 2012 but I think Brian and Roger are totally sold on Adam! It seems that they all got along famously in their trek around the U.S., Canada, Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand! |

Press Release: Queen + Adam Lambert Announce European Tour / Important Pre-Sale Information Queen + Adam Lambert to play UK and Europe in the New Year Following recent sold-out World dates Queen + Adam Lambert to play 21 shows in Europe Including seven UK concerts Tickets on sale beginning Friday 3 October QUEEN + ADAM LAMBERT today announced they are to play an extensive tour of the UK and Europe early in the New Year. In what is certain to be among next year’s most sought out music events, Queen + Adam Lambert will reign over a six-week long set of dates across Europe beginning mid January. ***Pre-Sales: If you are registered with QueenOnline, Adam Lambert's Official Fan Club or The International Queen Fan Club, please check your e-mail inbox for pre-sale details now, as some PRE-SALES START TODAY! *** Having only earlier this month wound down a sold out world tour taking in North America, Australia, New Zealand, and outdoor festival stops in Korea and Japan, Queen + Adam Lambert are sparing no time in taking their critically-hailed partnership back on the road. Coming two years after May, Taylor and Lambert last performed a short tour together of the UK and Europe, this lengthier outing will see Queen + Adam Lambert perform 21 shows in 10 countries. The band’s tour opens in the UK at Newcastle Arena on January 13 and will see the band play a total of seven shows across the UK including London’s O2 Arena. The tour then takes in France, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Denmark, and Czech Republic and ends February 19 in Switzerland at Zurich’s Hallenstadion. Tickets for the UK shows will go on sale from 9.00am this coming Friday, 3rd October. All other concerts across Europe are on sale same time excepting Germany where sales begin the following day, Saturday October 4. Tickets available from venues and usual outlets. Reaction to the dates is expected to equal that seen at the announcement of their US shows where an on-sale rush for tickets saw the band sell out 24 dates in record time. Queen and Lambert matched the expectations, winning glowing reviews from fans and critics alike: "Guaranteed to blow your mind, indeed". (Entertainment Weekly) "We were rocked, Queen is still the champion, and Lambert is a skilled voice to ensure that their music will remain live for a generation of fans". (VH1) “Rejuvenated Queen reigns supreme. Bow down fans, your new Queen is worthy of your love and devotion”. (Edmonton Journal, Canada) “Queen guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and newcomer Adam Lambert blew the roof off in an energetic rock extravaganza which pulled no punches. Their extraordinary musical talent showed no signs of waning”. (The Daily Telegraph, Sydney). “Queen and Adam Lambert delivered just over two hours of pure sensation straight into the nerves and bones of anyone fortunate enough to witness it. Freddie may be gone, but he would surely approve”. (Brisbane Times) “Did they rock us? Oh YES!” (New York Daily News). Queen first teamed up with Adam Lambert in 2009 to perform the band's rock anthem "We Are the Champions" on "American Idol's" season's eight finale. Lambert and Queen partnered again in 2011 at the MTV European Music Awards in Belfast. In the summer of 2012 they performed their first live concerts together with three sold-out shows in the UK at London's Hammersmith Apollo as well as concert appearances in Russia, Ukraine and Poland. A further one-off performance together at the IHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas last September at which they effectively stole the show triggered a conversation between Adam, Roger and Brian to take the show on the road. Hollywood Reporter exclaimed, “Adam Lambert, Queen bring down the iHeart house. With the perfect mix of rock attitude mixed with style, theatricality, sex appeal and impressive vocal gymnastics, [Lambert] took the band’s music to new heights.” Now the winning combination of Queen + Adam Lambert follows with what will surely be an equally triumphant tour of the UK and Europe. And Lambert is keen to alert fans of the show changes that can be expected. "On the technical side, it's definitely more of a production than two years ago," he says. "We've had a lot more cities to visit and so I think we all decided to build up the visuals and the stage accordingly, and of course we do all the hits." "We have a very interesting set design,” says Brian May. “It's big and daring. We're going to do it to the max." he says. "Each time we've worked with Adam with our music, he's just the most incredible front man," Roger Taylor says. "He's sensational. He has this amazing range, 'cause Freddie had a great range. Adam can really cover it. He's an extraordinary singer and a real talent. I feel he fits into our sort of theatricality. It is very comfortable.” As for the future, it would seem the Queen + Adam Lambert partnership is likely, for now, to remain limited to their live collaborations. Lambert is currently in the final stages of writing and recording his third album. May and Taylor are getting ready their forthcoming album, Queen Forever, a new compilation set which includes previously unreleased material recorded with Freddie Mercury, released November 10. Queen has amassed a staggering list of sales, awards, and hall of fame inductions that is second to none. Record sales in the hundreds of millions of units, including an unprecedented string of number one albums and top-charting singles, continue to put Queen in the top ten of all-time iTunes sales. Earlier this year Queen were officially recognized as the first artist ever to sell over six million copies of an album in the UK with their Greatest Hits album, beating out even the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper by close on a million copies, pointing to the astonishing fact that at least one in three British households now own a copy of the band’s original Greatest Hits collection. Adam Lambert’s stunning performances on the eighth season of American Idol are still widely regarded as some of the most riveting moments in the show’s history. His debut album For Your Entertainment earned him a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. His second album, Trespassing, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. His subsequent tour took Lambert from Australia to South Africa, throughout Asia and Eastern Europe and culminated in a sold-out arena show in Helsinki, Finland. In 2013, Lambert appeared as a guest star on the hit TV series, GLEE. He is currently in the final stages of writing and recording his third album. Some of us just accept that Queen's best years are behind them and would prefer not to witness the gradual decline of the half of the group that's left being put on stage and taken on a world tour. I love stuff like the wonderful Rainbow release and can only be sad that this kind of touring gets in the way of more wonderful historical releases like that. I don't mind Roger and Brian wanting to keep performing at all, but I'd find it considerably more tasteful if they were to try something new rather than rehashing the hits with whatever pop-act is hot that year as their vocalist. They're fine musicians, why can't they just make some NEW music rather than living in the past? |

"They're fine musicians, why can't they just make some NEW music rather than living in the past?" I think at some point they see it as a choice to play to big venues full of people singing along, vs. playing small places where people are rudely shouting "hey, play '39!". I've been saying it for years that Brian should knuckle down, pull a David Gilmour and give us a fucking balls out fantastic solo album. I don't think it's ever going to happen. The guy has some kind of self esteem issues. There are times I've really wished someone would grab him by the ears and tell him - Brian, you're fucking ace. Go and do the thing, you're amazing. Instead I get to listen to some dork wearing glitter and going "yo fatass bitches get up and riiiiide!". Honestly, fuck marketability. |

Even a cursory look at Mercury's stage banter between 1980-82 reveals much more vulgarity than that - dedicating Fat Bottomed Girls to "the street girls" and "people who like fucking a lot," and even a few cocaine references. But since the old recordings aren't as easy to find as, say, Queen and Adam Lambert in an arena near you, there is a false sense of disparity between the new frontman and old. Incidentally, I found this photo of another dork in glitter: link ;) |

Basically, he observed star dust movement and catalogued it to get his PhD. REALLY?Sorry to double team you, but do you realise that long time observing is a big part of astronomy? To see how cosmic things moving around and kicking each other's butt? And it's actually a hard work. It's not all about flashy equations and calculations. Though, in 1970s Brian can do equations as much as anybody - he got three A-Levels in Physics, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. I don't know how much of theoretical calculation went into his PhD thesis - please don't ask me to read it - but it's not a reason to diss his. Especially with such a remote and abstract subject as astrophysics, don't be too quick to judge. During my astrophysics course, my professor often spoke about how "boring" and frustrating the astronomy work can get, how much patience and unsung observations and nameless trainees have contributed to it. It scared the sheep out of me, I ran away, and here I end up, trolling internet everyday and knowing nothing about the universe. |
