Same pictures, same text. Too bad it was never marked as a re-release of the Freddie box (minus CDs/DVDs) which makes it not only a rip off but a bold attempt to actually cheat the fans off their money. To be on the safe side, the publishers reshuffled the pictures but did not even bother to change the description to each of the photos. |

cheers saves me buying it , one thing tho my Freddie box/book has started to go yellow in some corners !! |
tomchristie22 02.10.2012 08:25 |
Well that's a bit cheap. I've already bought it online, good thing I haven't been a Queen fan long enough to have the Freddie Box anyway. |
The Nosuch Disco 02.10.2012 08:51 |
yeah i found this out the hard way when it was delivered on Saturday... a shame really! Still the interview CD was alright, but not worth the £20! |

wow, what a rip off !! thanks for the warning, YV ! I'm glad I didn't preorder it |
AlexRocks 02.10.2012 10:11 |
That's something to consider. Thank you. Hmmm...I don' know what I will do now. |
dave76 02.10.2012 10:26 |
Thanks for all your replies. Now i am even more happier buying the blu-ray instead of the book which i did consider a couple of weeks ago. |
audhild1984 02.10.2012 10:51 |
Just received my copy... Really disappointed!!! I'm really tempted to return it. "Fans are given unprecedented access to all areas of The Great Pretender’s world." NOT AT ALL!!! |
Pim Derks 02.10.2012 11:18 |
Queen Productions repackaging content previously released... Who would've expected that..!? |
YourValentine 02.10.2012 12:08 |
The difference is that the repackage is released under a new name pretending that you get something previously not available. The difference is - different cover and book format - additional radio interview CD - re-shuffled photos - different product name (!!) In previous releases it was alway evident with product was recycled, "enhanced" or "deluxed" but this book does not show anywhere that we are sold a previous product under a different name. |

Bunch of cunts. My copy will arrive tomorrow. I was looking forward to it up to this moment. Why am I so stupid that I ALWAYS buy their crap which I bought before ? :-( |
daga 02.10.2012 13:50 |
Thanks for information. Save my money. So every picture from book is on box? |
brians wig 02.10.2012 16:15 |
Typical of Jim Beach. Freddie: "Don't make me boring Jim" (yeah, I'm paraphrasing) "OK Fred. I'll repackage the same shit everytime just so it's not (as)boring".... |
A Word In Your Ear 02.10.2012 18:43 |
Yet again, the "Queen Camp" cater for the Newbies & take the attitude F..k the "die hards", they'll never go away. Jim the "Cash Cow" Beach, strikes again!!!! |
MackMantilla 02.10.2012 19:32 |
what a rip-off! |
Ozz 02.10.2012 21:34 |
But.. its like 95% of the book like the freddie box. I'm sure i saw a couple of pictures that were new. However wasn't worth the price/size/content. But its a good opportunity for the people who didn't got the box in 2001. isn't ? Not all Queen Fans are hard core collectors that never missed a release |
The Fairy King 03.10.2012 02:16 |
The box has been long out of print , what'd you expect? |
LK7771 03.10.2012 02:54 |

Let me get this straight. If I own link then I do not need to buy the book, link. But what about the BD, link Is this worth getting? |
dave76 03.10.2012 11:34 |
The blu-ray is worth buying. The book isn't imo. |

Agree with the bulk of comments above. There is very little, if anything new in the book - if you don't count the lengthy intro. Certainly no new pictures. Sad thing is, I would have bought it anyway even if I had known this! The DVD is certainly worth buying. A very well compiled documentary and certainly had plenty 'new' footage and interview excerpts for a seasoned fan like myself. I think it clocked in at about 1 hr 20 odd minutes so it is a very long feature but very compelling the whole way through. It will be edited heavily for the TV. The extras are pretty uninspiring though. |
DLCVinnuendo 03.10.2012 15:31 |
well, and the interview cd, is this it a interview that comes on the freddie box set??? |

I think Jim Beach and the others at QPL should listen to the song "Scandal". Recorded by a band they work for. |

it's a great book with iconic Freddie photos and it's perfect for those who don't own the Freddie Solo box (that's me lol). |

I already have the box set glad I did not buy it now the book looks smaller than the box set-book. cheers for the heads up. |

Wow, Rhys warned you all about this long before this thread was made... 1) Were you involved in The Great Pretender book that is due to be release in conjunction with the DVD? If so, or if you were not involved but seen the book can you give an insight into some of the photos that we (long term fans who own most of the previous books etc) might not have seen before. Particularly if they are of off stage moments that were not included in the book in the Freddie box set or the photos from the exhibition currently residing in the circle bar at the Dominion. Which ones grabbed your attention the most? 1.The book - no, but I wrote the introduction as the plan was to tie both in together. That was Richard Gray who put the excellent book together. It's mainly what was available in the 2000 boxed set, now deleted and at the time very expensive. So now it's at an affordable price. I love the early pictures. |

I do have the box set but did buy this book. OK, it does contain many of the photos already in the box set, but the way I look at it, it saves me from wearing that out. There is also a nice long interview CD and a few new pics. For the £12 it cost me I'm quite happy with it, and the quality is also very nice. |
