OK Greg these last few days you have found the time to adress at length on these boards topics such as envy in Great Britain, anger at John S Stuart for describing your job as a boring chore, insulting zoners who attack you, patting those who lick your boots, now could you please answer this (as this is the Serious Discussion Forum) ? - As of late February 2010, discounting everything you might have said in the past (we know things do change), what is the status of the Boxset or the Anthology or whatever you call it ? (dead, on hold, actively being worked upon, a few months from release ...) ? - If the project still exists, what general form would it take ? A 10-CD boxset, album re-releases with a bonusc disc, somehing else entirely ? - Would it be audio only, or incoportate video, or even a book ? - What can you tell us about what we could find on such a set ? Unreleased tracks, alternate takes, mixes, live performances ... - I asked before but you haven't answered : Do you, the band, QPL or whoever in charge, seriously considre The Beatles Anthology a good benchmark ? Because, you know, it is Thanks for answering these, I belong to the fans who have trouble accepting that the time you spend on these boards is spent settling personal issues when we could simply talk about the one thing we all feel passionate about regardless of who likes who and who hates who : Queen ! |

Before I answer you seriously Fone chap, or gal, can you first tell me if you have ever referred to to me in a derogatory way on this site??? Or anywhere else. I don't read much here, just the odd things that I spot, so I'd like to know if you have ever said beastly things about me. Be honest and I'll take on a response to dazzle you and impress you to the point at which you snigger and go fetch your mum to read it too. I cannot be fairer innit! I'm so arrogant and ego testicals, ain't I. Brookman |

Fone Bone, you know you aren't going to get answers to those questions.
They need to be yes/no questions and cannot be specific.
Example: Greg, anything exciting going on? |
Queen Archivist 22.02.2010 12:15 |
Yes |
Fone Bone 22.02.2010 12:34 |
Well, Greg, the point of this post was to talk about interesting stuff instead of picking fights. I fear this is not to be considering your current state of mind. But I'll be honest, sure. I have written that : - I strongly disagree that the Anthology should be released after Queen are retired or dead (taking the Beatles Anthology / Paul McCartney example) - Picking fights with fans and insulting them is a very unprofessional behavior which in any other line of work would have serious consequences - These last few years, a few Queenzoners have been more valuable providers of knowledge and insight than you have (but of course they are not bound by a non disclosure agreement) However I have never been rude or insulting on these boards, to you or anyone So there you go, dazzle me We are Queen's core audience, we have been underwhelmed by recent releases (Singles Collection, Absolute Greatest) and we'd like something to get enthusiastic about, to look forward to. Can you do this, Queen Archivist ? |
woodi485485 22.02.2010 13:27 |
As someone else who is waiting to be dazzled, I can say that I too have never insulted you or anyone on Queenzone, so please, after years of waiting, can you provide me/us with some light at the end of the tunnel, if you are contractually able to. |

Greg I agree with the previous post and would much prefer to see some information on the things that we're are likely to see or hear for future releases (antholgies or other products). I think most will understand that this can be nothing more than conjecture as the band will take the final decisions but some general information would be good. |

Greg, Like many other QZ'ers, I would love to see the answers to some of these questions too. I've never thought or spoken of you in a derogatory way before (I've seen what some people say, but I disagree), so I'd be very grateful if you could share a little information. Thanks! |

It has not been mentioned for several years now, so my guess is that it's not likely to happen for yet a while. I think it likely that many things will come out before Anthology does. John Stuart being one of them. 'Come out' to buy one of the aforementioned products, I mean, obviously. John likes shopping. All power to the wee fellow up there in gorgeous Scotland. I cannot see Anthology happening until numerous other concerts and ideas that have been discussed in recent years, many of them great ones, happen first. This is only my speculation of course. For all I know the band members might want us to go ahead with such a product next year. Who knows for certain? Not I. In the meantime, I just keep beavering away at all that stuff, hopefully ready and waiting for the day it's finally needed. 2. That is rather like asking.... if the next U.S President is a woman, what will she look like????????? Who on Earth knows that?? It really could take any form you or I can imagine. I have forwarded proposals in the past (just like I did for Queen Singles: originally a 12-CD box) for Rarities in MANY varying forms, from a huge elaborate box, to a 4-part DVD/CD package, down to Collectors Edition triple sets for each album. The band might go with one of those, or with their own ideas - probably the latter. But there's no point in me guessing just for the sake of it. My guess would be literally as good as yours....only far more sexy!!! Obviously. 3. Ditto. I think there would probably be a book element, in order to explain everything - just like with the Freddie Solo box. 4. Yes all of those. rare session recordings, alternate takes, discarded ideas, studio banter, unreleased interviews and footage, remixes and ext versions that were never issued (not that there's many), live performances probably, demos, rehearsals, the De lane material. I have heard enough stuff to be able to say that such a project would feature some MAMMOTHLY exciting bits... assuming RT, BM, JD were happy for them to be included. Who's to say they would?! 5. I don't know what the band thinks. But I think it was a pretty good lead to follow. I think we could do better on various levels. I could say more but people would take the piss with various predictable things to jump on there, so I won't. I honestly think that the Queen unreleased gems are every bit as exciting as the Beatles stuff, though it's silly to compare bands with bands. Some of the unreleased Queen songs will truly blow you away. I want them to emerge just like you do. Cheerio. Can I go to bed now? |

Thanks, sounds great! I'd like to add one more question. Is a live box with concerts (audio only) from the seventies an option/possibility? |

Micrówave 23.02.2010 06:30 |
Awesome, Greg. Thanks!!! Not to bring it down or anything, but I think there's another unspoken factor not being considered, when releasing the gold. You got three Queenies left. My guess is they don't need to run every alternate take, live cut, unreleased stuff by the Freddie camp anymore, just send the check. So, in essence, you have three butting heads deciding what to do next. It would sure be a lot easier with two. Are we now deduced to wishing for a certain Queen's demise so that something good will come out? Out of the vaults, that is. |

Thank you very much for the reply, Greg. You've been true to your word, this is the most informative and thought provoking piece about the Anthology we've had in years. It can also show that QZ's tougher cookies can be more gentle when they get interesting answers :) Looking forward to great releases before the Anthology, then, while hoping that your fan-friendly proposals will be better appreciated than for the Singles Collection. Boy am I glad to have started this thread ! |
