Okay, most if not all of us here are queenies. So, fred means something to us. How will it affect YOU?Microwave, if you cant say anything nice to me, don't say anything at all. That message on my first post really hurt me. |

However, to put a balanced view point on it. It is now 17 years ago, and time has moved on. For me, the 17th anniversary of his passing, will I'm afraid just be another day! |
geldy 16.11.2008 06:29 |
Like every year I will light some candles for him... have a hour of meditation... drink a glass of champagne for him and will remember on Yahoo Clever (Yahoo Answer). I still in pain when I think about his death and I will NEVER stop to cry when I think about this "god". I still love you, Freddie! |
Penetration_Guru 16.11.2008 07:26 |
I was a bit disappointed when it actually happened, but by the first anniversary I'd stopped thinking about it and moved on. I have lots to say about people who mark "death-days" of people they never met, but it already looks as though this isn't the thread to do it. Wouldn't want to upset your delicate sensibilities... |

I used to care about it. Now I don't. Not really. It's still a bummer that he died, but I'm not going to listen to his music for an inordinate amount of time, light candles, hold a séance or bake a cake or sob and mope for the whole day. And I certainly won't start a threat about it like I did last year. XD |

Same goes for me Im afraid. I dont live in the past anymore. Actually I remember that day for a completely different reason. Me and my ex were having a breaking up chat at the time and she tried to change the subject by talking about Freddie's death. She thought it would lighten my mood. Stupid cow..... |
Band Forever 16.11.2008 15:16 |
On a musical level these days highlight and remind the fans, people at large what a huge personality the performer, the voice that was Freddie Mercury, and the chasm left on the musical landscape by his passing. Sad as his passing may seem, I am not sure Fred would approve of all this public mourning/anniverseries you see these days people weeping at the slightest prompting for people they didnt actually know. There are enough Band Wagons on the Trail Princess Di, James Dean etc. Lets not forget the immense impact the genius and never to be forgotten musical moments this guy made along with the other surviving members John Deacon, Brian May, & Roger Taylor, their place is right up there in the pantheon alongside the likes of Elvis & Beatles Led Zeppelin. |
Holly2003 16.11.2008 15:56 |
I have painted a picture of Paul Rodgers kicking over Freddie's urn and then counting his cash amid the ashes. In the background is a picture of me with a broken heart. Why? Whyyyyyyyy? |

Holly, Paul Rodgers maybe considered a good singer by some, but Freddie and Queen are not good they are the BEST, no matter how much money Paul Rodgers makes as a result of the Queen legacy, no one will remember the TCR or Q+PR with any affection, i believe this was just am opportunity, a revisit to past glories for Brian & Roger. Elton said it, Queen without Freddie is like having a Ferrari in the garage with no one to drive it. Why do you need to show off your hate like this? Do you think you are the most righteous Queen fan ever? Well, you know what? You're not a Queen fan at all. No, not at all. You don't love Queen. If you loved Queen, you wouldn't be spitting out so much hate towards them. Any normal person who just didn't like some output of his or her favorite band would just not listen to the respective piece of work and express his or her opinion in a decent way. I for example don't like Body Language, Get Down Make Love, Fight From The Inside, Tenement Funster and even Another One Bites The Dust. But I don't feel the sick and perverse need to trash the band and call them names because I don't like those songs. And I feel respect towards the people who like them. It's a sacrilege! God Mercury's memory is profaned! Jesus... that's so sick. So immature. So insane. So childish. Freddie himself didn't want to be seen as a god, but as a human person, he would disapprove of your fucked-up idolatrous attitude. Freddie always insisted that he was only a part of Queen, but do you give a damn on that? Acting out like you and people such as Treasure Moment and your likes is proof enough that none of you is mentally healthy. I'm not saying that you are crazy, but you do have an unhealthy attachment to Freddie. You should get some therapy. Take my word for it, I'm a psychologist. I should pity you, but you manage to get me so angry by being so disrespectful towards the people who actually like Queen + Paul Rodgers. I wish all of you just shut up and stop obsessing over how wrong it's for Brian and Roger to move on with their lives. I wish all of you understood that none of you has any right over Brian's and Roger's lives or over Queen and that these two guys have all the rights in the world to do what they are doing. Littlekillerham, I am so sorry to hijack your topic like this! As for your question, for me the 24th November will probably go unnoticed. Sorry, but what a narrow minded viewpoint on so many levels. Firstly, of all the singers FM admired and respected Paul Rodgers was the one he most wanted to be or emulate! Clearly FM did not consider him mediocre. Secondly, Rodgers joining May & Taylor to make money off the Queen legacy, I seriously doubt. If anything its is the other way around, BM & RT need the Queen legacy to remain relevant and in the public eye, and needed someone to front the band, THEY approached Rodgers I could go on.....The death of FM, signalled the end of Queen Mk1, I am glad there is a post Mercury era Queen. A Queen which will attract new fans and a new following, and whilst this new embryonic version of the band quite rightly pays homage to its former frontman, I for one hope that instead of endlessly regurgitating songs from the past at its shows, its stands on its own merit for its own material. And lastly, since when did anyone listen to a single thing Elton John had to say....!! |

It won't affect me per se, but I'll probably have my own Queen studio compilation on in the car for a couple of days and belt the songs out to the amusement of other motorists. As another 'poster' said, I've moved on from being affected. I never met the guy and only had contact with him through the post and on record, so it was only ever "in the ether"........ |

It is the third annual "Fast for Freddie" today, on the 17th anniversary of Mercury's death. I fast for the entire day in his name for AIDS in the hope we can find a cure for this terrible disease.
