I'm a little confused as it seems like a lot of people ask perfectly good questions here on the forum and are then slammed by a bunch of idiots making vulgar remarks. I guess I'm not understanding what the moderator does? This is only my second post and have stood behind the lines for over a year now never attempting to contribute for fear of being slammed. What's the point of the Queenzone forum if people don't feel they can participate? |

HOW DARE YOU MAKE SUCH A STUPID TOPIC! GO HOME AND DIE!!! YOUR TYPE RUIN THIS FORUM!! I'm just kidding. QZers usually only get upset when people.... 1. ask stupid questions that could be found on google or wikipedia 2. ask stupid questions that they know can't be answered 3. ask for things that are either impossible to get, or can't be shared on the site People aren't as bad as I've seen them lately, on both sides. |

If you've been visiting QZ for a while, you've probably already learned who the bullies are so you can ignore their posts too! Granted, the search function is both useful and underused but having said that, isn't it easier to just point the uninformed in the direction of the archives instead of being out and out rude? |

The writer of a text book doesn't have any less of an agenda than a wiki editor does. Wikipedia is a great source, because it is always immediately updated as new knowledge comes to light. With the very odd exception, it is always accurate, because there are always people checking the articles to ensure they are correct. Example... 99% of science/astronomy text books are wrong because they do not have the new definition of a planet. Wiki, on the other hand, was updated hours afterward. |

Yes, but we also have to remember, as Treasure Moment so eloquently reminds us every post, "Ask a Stupid Question..." That was not something created on Queenzone. Plus I'd say about 68% of the questions asked on queenzone are not asked for legitimate reasons. So I ask you, Karen G, how would you answer the following questions: 1. Was Bohemian Rhapsody about AIDS? 2. What was Freddie's last words? 3. Is it ok for Brian and Roger to use Paul Rodgers? 4. Where is John Deacon? 5. Who is John Deacon? 6. When is the box set coming out? 7. Are you sure Bohemian Rhapsody isn't about AIDS? 8. Is Freddie better than Paul? 9. Who is the moderator here? 10. Would anybody like me to provide them a complete copy of: a) Sunbury '74 b) Hangman studio version c) Face It Alone d) the complete 13 track Queen II album. I think it would amaze you how many times those exact questions were asked here. |

1. Was Bohemian Rhapsody about AIDS? Not a chance. It's clearly about the internet. 2. Freddie's last word - Wikipedia 3. It is OK for Brian and Roger to "use" Paul Rodgers. 4. John Deacon is at home. 5. I think it's safe to say John Deacon is the Base player for queen (I hope I spelled Base write, my english is not well) 6. What box set? 7. Yep, pretty sure. 8. No comparison 9. I thought it was someone sitting at a desk omitting super offensive messages we never get to see. I'm glad GH filled me in. I'm not sure how I'll ever gain his trust now. 10. Multiple choice hmmm... I believe this is a trick question. |

If I was a new fan I would go to a fansite rather than Wikipedia or Google and try and gain the knowledge of other fans one to one. All this site does is imply 'cliquiness' and repel new fans who get shot down for genuine interest. Those that do the shooting down tend to be the cocks that actually know very little and answer questions via Wikipedia and Google. |

Maybe the powers-that-be who run the site should set up a frequently asked questions section. This FAQ can be compiled by by the many knowledgable members here, and edited by the site's owner. New fans can visit this, read about what they don't know, and come to forums to discuss the larger issues. The FAQ can even contain a link to a previous forum discussion thread, so that new fans can see the back-and-forth exchange of ideas the other members engaged in, to better learn that answers and understanding aren't nessecarily concrete, such as discussions on the making of albums and the writing of songs. This way, there aren't rehashes over and over of old threads and topics the veterans are sick of talking about. Where the threads breakdown, I notice, is when differing, valid points of view are stated repeatedly and the discussion is reduced to insults. There really is no reason for discussions to be so volatile, but individual forget that just because we share a passion for Queen's music, we don't share the same perspective all the time. A good argument is the free exchange of ideas, with all points voiced equally in an attempt to understand why the other person feels the way they do. Sometimes it becomes a contest or a challenge to see who has the most supporters behind them and therefore "they win". At its worst, this passion can drive people into fits of "anyone who disagrees with me is either an idiot, a dumbass, doesn't know what they're talking about, or isn't a *true fan*". It all kind of reminds me of a poster I read on the wall of someone's office, which said, "Going to war over religon is the equivalent of fighting over who has the best imaginary friend." I'd love to help out with setting up a FAQ, if that's what it would take to curbsome of the hostility which creeps up in the threads. |

The problem with the "Rhapsody" question is that your average, non-Queen-fan doesn't read interviews and just listens to the lyrics, which we all agree are ambiguous and seem to suggest the character's reflection of his mortality. Add to that Freddie in fact did die from a wasting syndrome, which was big news at the time. Then Wayne's World comes out, "Rhapsody" is a hit again and everyone nods their head because it all fits in their mind. There's a generation of people out there who don't understand that by all reliable accounts, Freddie did not write himself into his songs. He wrote songs everyone could identify with (at least as far as love and relationships and feelings go) and viewed his own work as disposable, like Bic razors, use them and throw them away. Most singer/songwriters can't do this. What they write is semi-autobiographical in many ways, about failed relationships, drug recovery, their kids, whatever. Freddie rarely did this, and only "It's A Hard Life", according to Brian, is be about his own struggles with fame and loneliness. People are used simple explanations and can draw conclusions based on the slimmest of evidence, even if that evidence is a figment of their imagination. Ultimately, some people can't be bothered to think too hard about the world and all of it complexities. File the myth under busted, next to "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins, "Lover Rollercoaster" by The Ohio Players, "Puff The Magic Dragon" by Peter, Paul and Mary, and "Tambourine Man" by Bob Dylan, along with many others. |

How sad that Queenzone is not.Hi carboengine, nice to see you again. I am sorry that those people got to you. It is horrible to have enthusiasm for a subject only for it to be constantly dampened by poor attempts at cynical humour isn't it? As for other Queen forums, as far as I know only this one and QOL are visited regularly. Personally, I noticed there's more of a clique style in QOL than on here because they have more 'non-Queen' discussion sections that the regulars seem to gather in.This creates more familiarity among the posters and in turn fighting so then the 'authorities' wade in and sort it all out- a little bit like in the schoolyard :) There are, of course, people there with extensive knowledge but I doubt they are any more tolerant of oft-repeated questions either. QZ has the 'Announce' section and that is what makes it superior to the other forum for me. Plus it is smaller and far easier to navigate. I wouldn't give up if I were you, if you want to ask or show something, then do it. Ignoring the attention seekers is the only way to overcome them. |
