Analog VHS video noise has been significantly reduced without losing picture clarity. AUDIO QUALTIY: (8.65/10) Greatly improved dual MONO soundtrack. Fidelity and dynamics have been increased by no less than 40 percent. Volume is increased and normalised to -1.5 db. Analog VHS hiss & noise have been significantly reduced while leaving the wanted audio signal intact. As he'd told me before we traded, it was indeed one of the best versions of the show to have ever circulated. To find high quality copies of classic 70s QUEEN shows is very, very rare. After carefully watching the disc a few times, I decided that there was enough picture quality remaining, underneath all the video noise, to facilitate a decent remastering attempt. It took close to 3 weeks of processing, remastering, revising, testing, and finally compiling, to come up with the finished product. Snivlle is proud to take his remastering work from out of the Dino den and share it with the trading community. I hope you enjoy this new version. Included on the discs are 'Before & After' samples of both the audio and video. It is an unfortunate fact of "video-geek" life that there are only 240 lines of resolution inherent in VHS recordings. This number can obviously not compare to the more the 540 lines of resolution seen in commercial DVDs. The motivation behind all "Snivlle Remastered Edition" DVDs is not to compete with commercial DVD quality; rather, it is to get older VHS footage as close as possible to the quality of SVHS or Laser Disc. [Video Noise Reduction] The original VOB files were extracted from the source disc using DVD Decrypter. The VOBs were then frame-served with AVIsynth into Pro-grade NLE (Non Linear Editing) Video/DVD production software. AVIsynth frame-serving was used so that a few very powerful AVIsynth filters could be used on the footage without having to re-encode at this stage, or without having to create 100 GB uncompressed AVI files. In particular, the AVIsynth filters used were UnDot, CNR2, and Guavacomb. In combination, these filters eliminate multi-gen VHS anamolies such as 'dotcrawl', chromiance shifting, and over all chromiance noise. The nasty chroma disturbances are removed WITHOUT affecting the actual picture details. Please note as well, that the aforementioned filters operate as *true* 32 bit floating point software. In other words, no math rounding occurs which would result in less accurate frame-serving. Various video noise samples were captured and analyzed from the original footage. Careful video temporal de-noising was applied to remove a substantial amount of analog VHS noise and mpeg-2 artifacts. This portion of the video processing was carefully calculated to ensure that maximum results would be achieved WITHOUT disturbing the integrity of the original picture. I use the "NeatVideo" noise reduction plug-in in Highest quality/High resolution mode. [Video Encoding] Snivlle Remastered Editions are never mpeg-2 transcoded! All of my DVD projects are frame-served and encoded with Cinema Craft Encoder SP. The Cinema Craft Encoder is recognized within the DVD Production industry as the leader in high quality mpeg encoding. In order to maintai |

Sorry but am I the only one who thinks that the audio track is terrible ? Too much hiss reduction, "limiting", noise removal and of course endoded to a shitty ac3 even when there's a lot free disc space for lpcm ? Frank's audio is WAY better ! But still the video track is pretty good, but thetradersden version has more detail and this one has an incorrect aspect ratio |

i don't like so much that version: -too much colour intensity (old version tha i have is way better) -too much hiss reduction (is well known that a little bit of noise MUST remain) and a part of audio was lost. ( you ca hear a noisy metallic sound in the background) - what i will do with ac3 audio? the original source was stereo or mono. so came from where the 5.1 audio tracks ? unuseful... - video is 720*576 at 8000. VHS source (that source...) is at best 352*576 at 5000. we don't need 2 DVDs than so high UNUSEFUL quality tht work was done by a guy that don't know much about audio-video editing (IMHO). in any case i will say thank you to him and the guys that share this work with others. My opinion. thank you |

My opinion. thank youI agree with some of your remarks. - the colours are weird, too bright and too saturated, just compare this version of Death on two legs with the excerpts from the master tape which you can see on the A Night At The Opera anniversary DVD. - too much hiss reduction - yes, I agree the version shared on thetradersden had much more details, BUT personally I prefer THIS video - the audio is TERRIBLE. He simply cut some frequency range and encoded it into shitty ac3 format. - the original audio (taken from the video feed) was of course mono (we're talking about 1977). I also don't think it was necessary to upmix it to 5.1 but please don't forget that some people like to listen to music on their 5.1 system. I personally prefer stereo on music, I mean it's not Star Wars or something. - Why do you think that 720x576 video encoded at 8Mbps is bad ???? Sure, VHS resolution is smaller, but Lanczos4Resize can do miracles, did you ever try it ? And can you imagine how bad could this look with 5MBps bit rate ? And I wouldn't dare to say that Snivlle doesn't know much about audio-video editing, I actually like his remasters. |

VHS is always in 240 lines so nothing was lost passe in the remaster. However, the remastering was average at best IMO and is a double re-encode the way it was done.So yes its lossy. Now the image cascades & the lights are now un-genuine. They wouldnt be pin spots...lights spray. There is too much black & high contrast to make you focus on the centre image(whats happening)rather than the full overal picture.THIS is what is making you think it is better. It is,infact losing the original picture images as well as what "was" in the background. As for the audio...pointless 5.1 conversion with the same audio feed sources as its not 5.1. Clicking your Pro-logic button would of been a better way and more believable. It does sound cleaner....but only because frequencies have been lost. Lastly for knowledge on video & audio. Cascading image says he is not knowledgeable on video..you don't do that....ever..thats for 70's animation flicks, & making 5.1 from the same source directions tells me he's just a hobbiest for personal use and shares in text what he reads in forums rather than know how...nowt wrong with that apart from misleading with the words to product. Shame its lossy & the wrong way to do it....but there is keenness,so lets see if lessons are learnt from mistakes. Logo was good though......lol 4.5/10 |

Thanx a million for the kudos, folks. I'm glad that most of you like the results of Snivlle's tinkering in his 'Dino Den'. Ummm . . . just so the nay-sayers know; I didn't touch the color of my original source. Take a look at the 'Before & After' samples. If you have better quality source, feel free to contact me. As regards the audio quality; I thought that I'd assessed it accurately and objectively. If you don't like the 'pseudo' Dolby 5.1 audio track, then listen to the secondary, dual mono track. Some folks like the 'pretend' 5.1 audio (like many bootlegs are released with now-a-days) It doesn't sound as good as the stereo track, unless you're listening to it on a 5.1 system. I carefully explained what the process was - I thought that I'd explained my steps fairly well. I never professed that it was true 5.1 nor that it was a commercial grade of quality. Yes, in spots, there are small amounts of metallic ringing (audio processing artifacts) from the noise reduction processing. However, it's only in a few spots where the original sound track was the most distressed. The truth is, if your ears are sensitive enough to distinguish between 448 kbps Dolby AC3 and 16 bit wav sound, you must be earning a very large salary. Your name is probably Mutt (as in Mutt Lange) If you can make a 2nd gen VHS transfer look better, then I invite you to spend the dozens of hours and produce the results. I will gladly trade for an improved upgrade. As compared to many of the low-grade, multi-gen, pieces of low-grade footage that gets torrented from this era, I figure this one is a solid "8.75/10". Funny though, many more appreciative comments than negative. I believe that I'll keep a 'Gene Simmons' type of mentality about it. A couple thousand happy downloaders, from various sites, can't all be wrong. By the by, all mpeg material is lossy. With the right approach, using the right tools, mpeg artifacting can actually be reduced. A resulting 'lossy' re-encode can actually be made to look much better than its source. 'Earl's Evening Races' is a case in point. Hooah! -- Sniv |

Thanks for seeding. I´m only missing Disc 2 now. :-) One funny thing that I´ve discovered... In frank´s website (QueenHouse) you can download a FLAC version of a 1st Generation tape (Keep Dancin´). In that version, in the Brighton Rock solo and the Prophet´s Song Vocal Improv, you can hear the original "sound", one echo and then another echo (so three sounds made out of one). In this version, I can only hear two! How can that happen? The last echo doesn´t seem to be manually edited out of the DVD, so is this from a differente source? Weird... |

For some strange reason, there are two different audio sources of this show, and it's only noticeable in a few places: the tape hiccup at the beginning of White Queen, and wherever we hear Brian's delay (especially in Doing All Right). |

Hi folks, Thanks for what looks to be a great version of this show, sounds like lots of work has been done ! Would anyone mind jumping on to seed this some more, the Share Ratio is 0.275 right now, only one poor soul in the US is seeding and could drop off any minute ! Cheers |

Well... disc 2 has just finished... and I'm blown away. Could anyone spare some seed time to help me finish this off - I'm at 55%, we have a share ratio of 0.48 with six in the swarm but only one at 100% who is getting hammered by everyone else ! Any help much appreciated. I will of course keep seeding once I'm done to keep the party going. Cheers |

Does anyone know how you burn these files to a DVD? I have Part one downloaded from Rapidshare. |
The Real Wizard 18.08.2010 12:00 |
You'll need to finish the download before burning. Any standard burning program will do, like Nero. |
Indo77 18.08.2010 15:53 |
You don't have to extract all 64 parts. Earls Part 1 is zip files 1-33. I simple extracted it and burnt it using imgburn. The quality of this show was amazing, was it sourced from the Miracle Express VHS? |
The Real Wizard 18.08.2010 19:44 |
It doesn't seem so, as the lineage says it's from a second gen VHS. But I do recall that was a video expert's deduction of the footage. |

Could anybody seed please? Thank you! |

Is there somewhere available the source used for this remaster? I'd be willing to work on Earls Court a bit but I hate to work on already touched up videos. |
