So Sacha Baron Cohen aka Ali G aka Borat is to play Freddie in the upcoming movie (no joke).
According to this mornings Daily Mirror he's beaten the likes of Johny Depp to the part.
Sounds a bizare choice, sure he could pull off the extravert funny side of Freddie, but playing a man dying of Aids must be something beyond his limited acting abilities. Thoughts?
Limited acting abilities? He's playing his roles perfectly. But can he play a serious role? I don't know.
I still can't believe it, but it's an interesting thought. At least he looks like him.
He looks like him in the mustache years, but wouldn't pull of the '70s cool leather Freddie :) I say get someone hotter like Johnny Depp even though he doesn't really look like him.
I'll believe it when I see it...given the source of the article. Sacha Cohen is a great comedic characte r actor. But, as was established before? Can he play a serious role? It will be interesting to see. Personally I don't want to see him playing Freddie.

I've put this on the other thread too.
Sorry, but Ali G won't be playing Freddie

Interesting how that website says that, while I saw this from a link on Yahoo's front page:
Yahoo.com's stupid people wrote: Sacha Baron Cohen, the man behind the insanely funny but at times disturbingly homophobic Borat character, has been cast to play late, great, flamboyant Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in an upcoming biopic, tentatively titled Freddie: Cultural Learnings Of England For Make Benefit Glorious Music Of Queen. OK, we're just kidding about that title. But the rest of it is true. It does seem like an odd choice--what, was Mika or the Darkness's Justin Hawkins unavailable? Or what about the dude in this video? But then again, when we think about how well Borat rocked that infamous unitard-thong (something we can imagine Freddie wearing onstage back in the day), or how ably and eerily Sacha can morph into his fouffy alter-ego character, Bruno, we think maybe, just maybe, he can pull it off. All we know is we cannot wait to see Borat's rendition of "Fat-Bottomed Girls" on the silver screen...
That was funny, but I guess it's not true anymore. lol
This could go on and on for years with different names being put forward (I guess it already has!)
I remember the Evita film and who will play her doing the rounds for years before Madonna was finally chosen and even heard of.
Will any actor be accepted by the fans? I thought Val Kilmer was good as Jim Morrison and Joaquin Phoenix was just awesome as Johnny Cash. But I see myself sitting in the cinema mumbling: "Oh no it was not like that at all .. this is the wrong year... this is the wrong place" etc etc. Maybe we will have a thread "The 1001 mistakes in the Freddie biopicture" on Queenzone.
Baron Cohen could probably pull the role off. However no-one has thought about the problems associated with his height! He is at least 6 4' which is a good 7 or 8 inches taller than Freddie was.
My question is - How tall would the actor who plays Brian May have to be for the band to look anything like they did?
Is the guy who played Jaws in the Bond films still alive?

Yep. At 7'2."
Give him a shoulder length brown curly wig and a guitar and he's all set. LOL! link

Fantasy from a tabloid!! I read the Mirror but sure as hell don't beleive everything it says.
I remember them saying that Dougray Scott had been chosen as the next 007 and we all know what happened about that!!!
I'll wait and see what develops.

Isn't that the truth hun!
I do that already with some stuff, as I'm sure many of us die-hard fans do...
And whoever suggested Vince from THE MIGHTY BOOSH would be an amazing 70's looking Freddie! haha
