I've been going through alot of my Queen albums lately and figured I would listen to only the songs that only certain band members wrote. Well I turned my attention towards the songs that John Deacon wrote. I choose him first because he was the most quiet of all the Queen members and contributed less songs than the others did. I find myself really liking the songs that he wrote and I was wondering what everybody's favorite song that John wrote is. Obviously his 2 best known ones were "Another One Bites The Dust" and "I Want To Break Free" but me myself I feel my 2 favorite are "If you Can't Beat Them Join Them" and "Need Your Loving Tonight"......These 2 songs could have very easily been top selling and successful singles in there own right......So those 2 are mine what are your's???? |
Finn Baron 07.04.2007 14:51 |
Spread your Wings, best Deacon song definetly. |

^ Yep. Spread Your Wings...Misfire and In Only Seven Days. |

Don't forget 'You're My Best Friend' - that's always one song that I almost forget about, then whenever I hear it I remember how good it is. Having said that, my fave JD song is Spread Your Wings, followed by Need Your Loving Tonight. I also really like You and I |
gem27 07.04.2007 15:06 |
Need Your Loving Tonight was written by Freddie not John but I like Spread Your Wings and You And I as my John songs I like best. |

I'd say Spread your wings or One year of love (I can't help but love this one) |
gem27 07.04.2007 15:34 |
Oh yeah Your'e My Best Friend too. how can I forget that one. especially as now I have met a girl where that song relates to her in my life. |

They're all amazing, but I'd say Another One Bites the Dust is one of the best. The riff is perfect, simply yet effective. |
Sebastian 07.04.2007 16:56 |
'Need Your Loving Tonight' (which is indeed John's, not Freddie's) is probably my big favourite of his. A close second would be 'My Life Has Been Saved'. |

Spread Your Wings is true brilliance. You're My Best Friend always cheers me up and brings a smile to my face! I love Misfire-such a happy song. Also, In Only Seven Days!! One of my all time favorites! and i loooove If You Cant Beat Em and One Year Of Love (beautiful). John was an excellent songwriter. |

Freddies Delilah 08.04.2007 00:18 |
Misfire is just such a happy song that I can't help smiling whenever I hear it, and One Year of Love is just such a sweet song. I also adore You and I. |
Joeker 08.04.2007 00:53 |
he also wrote bohemian rhapsody, and was slated to be the bands original vocalist but freddie cut out johns vocal cords and bribed him for the lyrics of bohemian rhapsody...john didn't think it was going to be much of a hit at the time because he wrote it while smoking reefer. |

for me spread your wings, for general music fans not specifically queen fans would probably plum for 'dust or 'break free |
gem27 08.04.2007 08:13 |
I am sorry for saying Need Your Loving Tonight was by Freddie, I always thought that it was by John and I've been a Queen fan for years! I am very surprised to learn it was by John but I know that I was wrong and it is a John Deacon song. Anyway its not a bad tune but i don't think anything too special. |
Miss Fire 08.04.2007 10:35 |
I like Cool Cat (does that still count if he wrote it with Freddie?) |
Fur 08.04.2007 10:49 |
John deserves so much respect for writing relatively few songs, yet YMBF, AOBTD and IWTBF alone could define Queen. I'd say his best written song is You're My Best Friend, especially when you consider it was only his second, but my favourites are probably You and I, If You Can't Beat 'Em and In Only Seven Days. |
deleted user 08.04.2007 10:54 |
Spread your wings, but I like the others very much too, specially those of the 70's. |
lyricalassasin77 08.04.2007 12:12 |
Well I've enjoyed seeing all the responses. I can't believe I totally forgot about him writing "Spread Your Wings".....Damn that's just unexectable now isn't it!! LoL......Yeah I would say besides Freddie, he was definetly the strongest song writer of the group.....Happy Easter |

Spread Your Wings, Who Needs You, Need Your Loving Tonight, You and I, Misfire, Seven Days god i love john deacon songs. |
queen4eva224 08.04.2007 22:36 |
yeah, practically everyone put Spread Your Wings, and im wondering why that's not a greatest hits song. well...why? |
Sebastian 09.04.2007 09:57 |
Because it didn't get to the top 30, thus, it was NOT a hit. |

louvox 09.04.2007 16:48 |
Most of John's song are good. He really only wrote 3 songs that I consider to weak, but had they been recorded or produced with a harder edge I probably would have enjoyed them better. Cool cat Pain is so close to pleasure One year of love I want to break free is a good song, but the studio recording of it down right sucks! Another one bites the dust is way overrated! |

You're My Best Friend, and, Spread Your Wings. I have also become recently enamoured of AOBTD, though it was #1 in the states when I was about...seventeen. I always took that song for granted, really, and, recently, have listened to it with different ears. |

I love his songs, I think he's the second best song writer in Queen (Freddie is nr 1, duuuuh). Absolutely adore Misfire, Who Needs you, Spread Your Wings, You're My Best Friend and Another One Bites The Dust. But if I had to choose only one...then...ahhh tough choice, but if I HAVE to then I'm gonna have to say You're My Best Friend. |
