Just wondered. I have heard this song a lot lately, and I really love it. In one verse he goes:
I try to be like Grace Kelly
But all her looks were too sad
So I try a little Freddie
Ive gone identity mad! link
Our Freddie Mercury?
(I hate to bring this up, but this is the 3rd thread about this song that I've seen. One of them sparked a discussion about Treasure Moment, the 2nd greatest band ever, and the other sparked a disagreement over how bad Robbie Williams is. So I'm wary of threads about this song)
To answer your question : it's plainly Freddie, yeah.

Still I want to thank you for the kind answer. :)

Mika=Really cool...(even Brian thinks so, now that's saying something)
And yes he's referring to Freddie Mercury. Well it's hardly going to be Freddie Flintoff is it?;)
Of course he's not referring to Freddie Mercury.
He means Fred Astaire. Since he also sings about Grace Kelly and mentions Humphrey (Bogard) in the end.

Of course it is a reference to Freddie Mercury. It might be a double entendre to include Fred Astaire as well .... but it is undoubtedly a Queen reference when he uses Mercury's voice, facial expression and then the lyric about going "mad" which is homage to queens last album "Innuendo" 's lyric "I'm going slightly mad".
Enjoy Freddie's reincarnation ad Mika ... I missed him and I am glad he is back!!! Maybe he can reunite the old gang and have some fun ... in addition to making some smash bang great music for the new millenium.
