It's been a while since I've set foot on qz. How's everybody? I am enjoying my decadent existence and step further and further into the occult. My question is this: do you believe in the Tarot? I could say I do, because I've come to realize as I read more and more on this subject and in the cards that the cards never lie. :D I am also waiting for rationalist-pragmatic-material points of view dissing me and pulling me around in the mud. And I'd be rather happy if the people decide to stay on-topic. Thank you! Kisses to y'all!!! Sonia |

Glad all is well with you...but to answer your question, no I don't believe in Tarot cards, Fortune telling...anything like that. |

Hi Sonia. Although I'm interested in occultism, spiritualism etc. I have come to an end that it is important to have a focus on 'our life here'. |
YourValentine 17.12.2006 07:33 |
The statement "cards don't lie" implies that cards have a knowledge we don't have and also are able to make a choice to tell the truth about this knowlege or not :) I do not believe that is the case. Cards are just pieces made by people who had certain ideas what to put on the cards and assigned a meaning to the pictures. I don't believe they can tell me anything about my life or future. |

Many out there are utter crap, and even the good ones involve seeing through loads of bullshit to get to the essence. Why don't you mail me? I think I'll have some interesting stuff for you. |

"My dad's an expert on Tarot." Any interesting stories for us? Not that I "believe" in this. I don't know anything about it. I do think that certain patterns can be found in anything - even flipping a coin. You could ask the coin: Am I going to have a good day today? - Heads for "yes" and tails for "no", and it WILL answer you. Then what if it comes true? Does that mean the coin knows what you cannot know? Ha. Sometimes there are "suggestions" that take hold as well. I certainly wouldn't want to go to one of these tarot card readings and get a negative reading. That can't be good for you. |

I've got some pretty awesome Tenacious D tarot cards. Groovy. |

What it CAN be used for as well, is for instance what Philip K. Dick did in his books: he used the I Ching to create the plot-twists in his works. As for Tarot. What I'm about to tell you is a very short, extremely simplified version of what is going on: In short, the Tarot represents a library of ancient Jewish (mystical) knowledge. It was by no means intended to predict the future or anything like that. In the Tarot, Qabbalistic astronomy (not astroLOGY) and knowledge of the make-up of the world is stored. This does not mean that it cannot be used to 'foretell the future', but that is a different story: the charlatans who think they can tell your future usually can't; they believe each card has one or more specific meanings. They don't. The cards are quite simply a way of focussing your attention on a person. Anything could do: a hand, a piece of cloth, some coins, dice, bones, stones, etc. When a person has a question, they carry within themselves the answer to that question at least 999 out of 1000 times. By using the Tarot, the one who lays the cards works with the one whose cards are being read, to peel away, so to speak, the layers covering the answer up. So, in essence, the person who asks the question answers it, too, and the Tarot-reader only mediates. |

I also believe that just getting quiet and thinking can work - for figuring things out. |

I'm not so sure I believe, but maybe I will. Can someone do a reading for me right here, right now, on-line? Will I ever find love other than on the internet? Is Freddie's spirit watching over us all? Did Sonia make more cookies for us? Is Greg Brooks really Greg Brooks? Perhaps we need a resident fortune teller... |

I do not and it rather irritates me when my mum comes home from a 'card reading'. She burbles on about how the stars are right and this card said she's going to get a haircut etc. etc. I'd rather listen to the old bone rattlings of a witch doctor in some distant tribe in Nairobi to be perfectly honest. |
thomasquinn 32989 19.12.2006 06:01 |
Tell your mum to stop frequenting retarded charlatans who don't have a clue what they are doing. |
iGSM 19.12.2006 08:20 |
Ha, don't think I haven't tried. I actually use the word 'retarded' too but oh well...she'll learn eventually. |
Sonia Doris 20.12.2006 15:36 |
she could ask: I bet you tell that to all the girls... If they ask money in general they're charlatans. A gifted reader does this for the art and to keep the balance of the universe... etc.... |
Poo, again 20.12.2006 16:05 |
I don't believe in Tarot. Tarot believes in me. |

I have tarot cards actually, and I give tarot card readings to my friends. It was just for fun at first, but then I freaked out one of my friends because the reading was so accurate, and the cards were saying things about her that I didn't even know about. So yea, I think I believe in Tarot cards. |
