am now giving this cd a sixth listen...and it's starting to work as an idea...
yes we all love the songs...and many (myself included) would say tampering with perfection is the work of satan...but.........
i am really starting to like hearing these songs in a new light...some of it is pure ingenuity..seems some elements of genius run in the "Martin" family genes...the flow of this album is quite extraordinary
give it a chance people...you may be surprised
I was resistant to this album at first, but then I heard 'Get Back' on the website, and I knew I had to get it. 'Strawberry Fields Forever', 'Drive My Car/What You're Doing/The Word', 'Within You Without You/Tomorrow Never Knows', and 'Hey Jude' are all tremendous.
I didn't think Octopus' Garden worked. You can tell Ringo's vocals are meant to be on a different backing there, it just shows.
But the rest of it is *pure* genius... the stand out tracks in my mind are Get Back and While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
The sound is amazing. I want all my Beatles albums in such a good sound, please. The mixes are a matter of taste. Some are great, some I don't like. For example Sun King reverse is pointless imo, I always thought playing songs backwards is childish. For me "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is not great at all because Clapton's guitar is missing which adds so much to the original song. I do like how they combine various songs to one track, that works surprisingly well. For some reason they did not use many early songs, maybe Martin thinks they are too basic.
I believe that is because of the way the early songs were recorded..they were unable to mix/split parts seperately.
I don't particularly like Sun King forward so hearing it backwards was just as bad for me.
However I do like that version of Something. *drool*
