Costumes are costumes, but Freddie was always so immaculately groomed and dressed. What was with the ragged t-shirts during the tour (although he looks good in every thing.) Any info on that? July 12, '86. What was the temperature that day (for those of you who were there), and what time did Queen go on? Freddie starts out in that beautiful yellow jacket with a t-shirt underneath. and he is sweating like crazy from exertion - and the TEMP? John eventually ends up in shorts and a sleeveless t-shirt. Yet Brian on dvd disc 2 talks about how difficult it is to play outdoors when it is cold and raining (the previous night, or in general?) On the Live at the Bowl Milton Keynes concert DVD Freddie says that Queen rarely does shows in the daylight and they should do it more often as now he can see them and there are some beauties here tonight. In the later years did Queen outdoor concerts start in daylight and end up in the dark? (I suppose it depended on the venue and date and day of the week.) The stage lights certainly weren't as dramatic in daylight. For instance, the Live in Budapest video was shot outdoors and all in the dark, and the stage lighting is spectacular throughout especially since some of the cameras were at an angle shooting up into the lights. I think this is the prettiest filmed concert ever, and Freddie's stage antics are even more over-the-top than usual. How any of them can perform with bright lights flashing on and off is a credit to their experience and showmanship - especially Freddie as he is dashing up and down stairs and ramps, through smoke, and twirling about on stage. It must be like walking into a dark movie theater, and you have to stop until your eyes adjust, times 100 for Freddie, only he never stops. The Hungarian cameramen did a spectacular job filming. At Wembley when he comes out in the white military jacket with the red trim, and the fabric is flowing and billowing out behind him, was that jacket only used at Wembley because the stage was so huge? Watching the video cam of just Freddie doing three or four songs most certainly shows how humongous that stage really was! Who ever ended up with the crown(s), and how much did it weigh? Maybe two years ago the yellow jacket was bought off of eBay for a nifty price, but how many yellow jackets were there? I assume there were duplicates of all costuming because of wear and tear and stains and freshness. Freddie at Wembley absolutely owns that stage. He makes it look easy, feels at home, and it is adorable when he smiles so often throughout. I LOVE that guy! |

I know he used the jacket with cape at the Paris show. I think only 1 yellow jacket, as well as a 1 all white, and 1 white/red.Martin said some Czech actor got the White Jacket and is not really a Queen fan. I agree how the shows are better when it is darker, but after so many shows I guess people like to see different stuff. I think, for the Magic tour Mannheim, Slane castle started at early times compared to the other shows, most shows started around 8-8:30 pm (I know one show started at 8:21 pm) |

Nice costume/stage observations carbo engine! I'm afraid I don't know the answers to most of your questions but I did read on the queenconcerts site that they came onstage at 20.35pm on July 11th. Not sure of the temp but mid-July in the UK on a good day could be around 20-25 degrees maybe....add to that the sweltering heat of a stadium and all those lights and no wonder Freddie was sweating after the first couple of songs! One thing that has always confused me about the Wembley DVD is the huge amount of 'costume' (well, t-shirt) changes John goes through. I may have missed something but between AOBTD and WWTLF John suddenly appears in a green shirt... After that he has about another 3 shirt changes seemingly between songs-how did he do it? I think Roger goes from stripes to black to white during the concert too..they must have had an illusionist on the payroll! |

The yellow jacket was owned by Jim Hutton who sold it a while ago. Freddie's excessive sweating comes from the use of cocaine - Roger did not sweat that much drumming away and you can see that Freddie did not sweat that much in small overheated halls in the 70s, either. |

I think the huge lighting rig, the fact he was pushing 40, a little heavier and maybe even that he was HIV+ produced his excessive sweating. |

All right, Queenzoners, how many costume changes did each band member have at Wembley, and what were they. |

Honestly... at the 2 Wembley shows, I honestly think cocaine was probably a non issue. I'm not saying Fred never dabbled, but seriously, I think the magic tour was all business... and in 1986, Fred was 40, I think the "heavy partying" days were behind him. Oh yeah Sherlock's... try this idea on for size... John and Brian are standing in one spot with their dicks in one hand, and a free thumb up their ass.... meanwhile, Freddie is running all over like madman... plus, singing burns more calories than playing an instrument (typically) Guaranteed, Fred burned 3,000+ calories in a 2 hour show. Bri and John, probably 800-1,000 |

It's not really a serious Queen discussion... I am pretty sure that Freddie's excessive sweating came from the cocaine, I have seen the same phenomenon with a German singer (Konstantin Wecker) who sang sitting at the piano and who sweated like mad after only 2 or 3 songs. After he dropped the habit (in fact, he went to jail for it) he was not any younger or weighed less but the sweating stopped completely. Also, at Live Aid it was not that hot in the stadium and they played in daylight but Freddie was dripping nonetheless. |

Singer will always sweat more, you always have a spotlight on you, that alone add's more heat. I agree with the cocaine part, it added as well. How much did that jacket go for, and does any one know who got it? |

"Also, at Live Aid it was not that hot in the stadium and they played in daylight but Freddie was dripping nonetheless." Were you there? Ive heard stories that it was roasting hot in the stadium that day, and the fact that the stage was white and just reflected the heat just made it more intense. |

Some people sweat more than others. Folks can sweat while standing in the shade and others can be quite active and barely sweat at all. That's life. |

How anyone can say its the coke without actually doing it with him is absurd. Are we seriously counting sweat drops at a show in 1986?People go see Borat this weekend and enjoy life a bit ok. |
Asterik 04.11.2006 08:10 |
Well he was getting on. He had to sing demanding songs and run about often at the same time so of course you're going to get tired out, he had a large space to run around in and he didn't play the piano as much by 86 whereas he did in the late seventies so he couldn't have much of a rest. I do believe the AIDS may have been part of it too- the 1st signs perhaps. |

he was sweating coz he had to take a dump and couldnt go for two hours... any one would sweat that much. |
