Well, they've been saying that off and on for years now...
But in all honesty - I've seen Genesis as a three piece and am bored with it.
If Gabriel and Hackett would have been there; that would have been something!
I'm not a big fan of post-Gabriel Genesis, but I love their earlier stuff with him in it.
Not sure if a reunion would be very good now, they're a bit old.
But you know what, there is an amazing Gabriel era tribute band called The Musical Box. They recreate the entire show, costumes, slides and everything! They're performing their last ever tour next year before breaking up, so you should definitely see them if you like Genesis, I've seen them the past three years and it really is a breathtaking experience.
Collins left the band in 1996 to pursue solo projects
Rock veterans Genesis are to reform, 10 years after frontman Phil Collins left.
Collins, 55, with guitarist Mike Rutherford, 56, and keyboardist Tony Banks, 56, have agreed to take part in a major tour.
Genesis sold over 130 million albums during the '70s and '80s, despite losing singer Peter Gabriel in 1975.
A spokesman said specific details of the tour and "long term plans" including possible new material would be announced in the next few weeks.
The group was formed by Rutherford, Banks and Gabriel at Charterhouse public school in the 1960s.
Collins joined as drummer in 1970 and initially the band enjoyed cult success.
They only hit the commercial big time with hits like I Can't Dance, Mama and Invisible Touch after Gabriel left.
Collins had already voiced interest in a reunion before he announced his spilt from Orianne, his wife of six years, in March".
Was Peter Gabriel the lead singer? Then did Phil Collins step up to the plate?
I've never understood that. The drummer singing or..what?
Yes, I can access wikipedia too.
That's great. I know it's fashionable to only like the original, first version of a band, and to those folks I say "good luck!"
I grew up with the 3-man version of Genesis with Collins on vocals and recently I got their 'The Video Show' DVD and was reminded just how much I enjoyed them.
I don't believe Gabriel has anything against Genesis actually. He even participated in a remake of Carpet Crawlers in 1999. I think he just chooses to remain solo and release one album every 11 years or so as he has been. Strange lad, that one :-P
Incidently they both have excellent, true 5.1 mixes on their DVDs. Gabriel's is called 'Play'. Mostly a capella centers on both, as it should be.
I don't have anything against Genesis in any way! Although I know alot of folk do seem to. I appreciate the Collins-led band, but it just isn't to my liking (except for Trick of the Tale, I loved that album).
I saw Phil Collins on Room 101 awhile ago and he was actually pretty good. An ace drummer too.
P.S. Bubbles, I love your bunny.

Yes, originally Peter Gabriel was the singer.
Phil Collins joined the band a couple of years later as their drummer.
When Gabriel left, Collins stepped forward to take over vocalduties.
Paculiar how on the very first few albums they made with Collins on vocals, you somethimes could hardly tell it was someone else! Collins sounded very very much like Gabriel in those days.

Hey I know! When I first started listening to my dad's old tapes I could not tell which was which, I thought it was all one guy.

What about those of us who really like Calling All Stations more than the early stuff and the Phil-era?
Seriously, I enjoy listening to that album, expecially the title track and Congo.
I too liked that album, it came out at a time when Diana had just been kiiled and I remeber it suited the mood of the country very well at the time.
However, it never seemed to really be Genesis, particularly the drums, Had Phil of played drums on the album I would have really loved it.
Im not ashamed to admit I prefer the Collins era songs on the whole, but that might have something to do with taking along time to buy my way backwards towards the Gabriel era.
The Lamb lies down on Broadway is a fantastic album, and Selling England by the Pound is probably my favourite Genesis album.
However there are songs from We Cant Dance, Invisible Touch, Duke, Trick of the Tail, and Wind and Wuthering which raise the Collins stuff above the Gabriel stuff for my taste.
Ive always prefered the latter day mix aswell - Hackett was an awesome guitarist, but I never liked his guitar sound - very low in the mix and strange.
Preferred the version of the solo from Firth of Fifth on "The Longs" part of the last live album - Daryl Stuermer (spl?) nailed it with a great sound.
Thats my Genesis rant anyway, would love to see them tour - was about 7 last time, so barely appreciated any music.
I prefer Peter Gabriel as a solo act over Phil Collins but my fav Genesis albums are "Trick of the Tail','Wind and Wuthering' and 'Selling England by the Pound'. As singers they're equal within Genesis.
They put on a good show when I saw them back in the Phil era 70s.
I'm just not a big fan of their 80s pop.
