... "Liar" or "Get Down, Make Love" or The Flash Gordon Theme - on Alice Cooper's radio show. On the regular radio... it's a shock to hear ANYTHING Queen - I don't think the DJ's at the local classic rock station like Queen, so... it was a shock to hear "Bohemian Rhapsody" or "Fat Bottomed Girls". I think this is a little short-sighted of them, since someone requests "Somebody to Love" nearly every week on the Request-Hour. |

Here in Portugal Queen is one of the most played bands on the mainstream radio, so it's usual to hear Queen on the radio. Thank God It's Christmas plays like a single evry Xmas time for example... From what I read here, I'm starting to think that the portuguese radios aren't as bad as i thouhgt =P |

I heard Get Down on a local station, but I was halfway asleep and hadn't bought News of the World yet, so it was kinda weird. Cooper played Bites the Dust a few nights back, and he's also played Sheer Heart Attack and Champions/Rock You. Oh, and he has Don't Try Suicide and Radio Ga Ga are on a couple of his intros. |

DeeEmm 15.10.2006 07:23 |
Um, considering they don't play 90% of the Queen stuff on the radio, I'd say...they're mostly pretty rare. I Want It All is one of the only songs being played here. Along with Killer Queen and BoRhap and maybe The Miracle. |

I heard on Dutch Radio "Who Wants to Live Forever" sung by Brian's daughter (I think it was Emily) ... which was a big shock, since she doesn't sing in tune very much though It was a special Radio show with "rarities" anyway Stefan |

It is the memory or the occassion that makes it special not the song: Years ago I remember being in Copenhagen at the Hard Rock cafe and they played, love is the hero by Billy squier. At that time I never heard the song, but being a queen fanatic I knew that Freddie sung on the 12" version of that song, so it was weird to here the sentence: 'love is the hero'...I thought: hey that must be that song.... The coolest thing I ever heard on radio was a on a tape from 1980. My dad had taped a radioshow on cassete because John Lennon was murdered. On that radio show, a dj announces: "and now the next single of Queen: 'Flash'. That was a cool thing to hear. I also remember the first time they played 'Heaven for everyone on the radio' It was a special moment for me, I was 12 years old and this was the first time I heard a new Queen song on the radio... I also remember Too much love will kill you by Brian, it was number one back in the day when I heard it on radio. |

Well, I think the rarest one I have heard was Ogre Battle.. besides Thank God It's Christmas... of course I have heard the BBC version of We Will Rock You here on Banana 101 a few years ago during their lunch block.. Now with that said, I have to admit, I had an inside man on the radio station and he would play ANY Queen request I asked for.. this was a LONG LONG time ago.. he would bring his collection from home in so when I requested stuff he played it from HIS stock.. so if you were listening to WKQZ 93.3 FM here in Michigan back in say.... 1988... you would have heard some REALLY off the wall Queen songs on the radio.. LOL.. Brighton Rock was one he played a lot for me, as well as Modern Times Rock And Roll.. but those were special requests from me and don't really count as RARE songs on the radio.. from ME that is. LOL |

However, I was shocked when a friend told me they heard tie your mother down! |

I'm from the Philadelphia area in the US so it's rare to hear anything other than the greatest hits like WWRY/WATC, Bo Rhap, Crazy Little Thing, etc. This one radio station played Somebody to Love a number of times which I thought was pretty weird. The rarest song though was Need Your Loving Tonight, I heard it playing in a convienience store and I thought it was very strange since I don't think many people in the US would even recognize who it was. |
mircal 18.10.2006 00:21 |
I once hurd Tie you mother down... And Innuendo when it first came out. The Radio here is very Queen friendly so something like the top two songs is unusual. |

I've heard one Queen song on the radio once - I Want To Break Free. I was sitting in a taxi (I have no idea what radio station was playing) when suddenly I heard Freddie's voice. It was the first time I had ever heard IWTBF and I instantly started hyperventilating. Good times :D |

I'm running a baseball game on the radio, and can clearly hear 'Don't Stop Me Now' playing over the loudspeakers. Joy! I was also overjoyed to hear 'Headlong' played on a local station some years back. Sadly it's mostly BoRap and WWRY/WatC hereabouts... |

Alice Cooper plays Don't Try Suicide and Radio Ga Ga on his intros, like Dobbies said. He has played Somebody to Love and I'm In Love With My Car at least twice. That's about as rare as it gets here. Scotland's classic rock station played 'Sheer Heart Attack' today. I was surprised and impressed. Apart from that and 'Keep Yourself Alive' though, they rarely play the songs which weren't hit singles. I hear more Queen songs on holiday, mostly from the 'Kind of Magic' era onwards. |
lyricalassasin77 06.08.2007 19:14 |
Hmmm over here in the US especially on the Classic Rock stations you hear Queen all the time. I hear on a regular basis....Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions, You're My Best Friend, Fat Bottomed Girls, Somebody To Love, Killer Queen, Under Pressure, and Another One Bites The Dust. So evidentally most of the people that replied to this post aren't over here in the states. However the rarest Queen song I've heard on the radio would have to be "Who Needs You"...Just heard it about 2 months ago on this program they have called "The Acoustical Storm" that they do on Sunday nights on 100.3 which is a local classic rock station out of Washington D.C. I also heard "Now I'm Here" and "Tie Your Mother Down" once too.....That was pretty weird. |
Winter Land Man 06.08.2007 19:44 |
My local classic rock station absolutely LOVES Queen! A lot of times they introduce their songs coming up as (song title) by 'Freddie Mercury & The Boys' But the rarest Queen song they played from what I know, and I'm sad to say I wasn't there to hear it, was Scandal. Last year my Girlfriend was driving to work and Scandal came on the radio and she's a Queen fan just like me and it was shocking for her and me, when she told me. None of these are in order. Songs played all the time - 1. Keep Yourself Alive 2. We Are The Champions (more than WWRY) 3. We Will Rock You 4. Somebody To Love 5. Under Pressure 6. Bohemian Rhapsody 7. Tie Your Mother Down 8. You're My Best Friend 9. Another One Bites The Dust 10. Killer Queen 11. Crazy Little Thing Called Love Onces that they don't play much but do play at times are - 1. Play The Game (they played it a lot in the 1990s) 2. Stone Cold Crazy 3. Radio Ga Ga (they also used this as the radio stations anthem) 4. Hammer To Fall 5. Flash 6. Need Your Loving Tonight (they played it a lot in the 1990s) 7. The Show Must Go On 8. Calling All Girls (they played it a lot in the 1990s) 9. One Vision 10. Body Language (they played it a lot in the 1990s) |

I hear alot of these "rare" songs such as It's Late, Need Your Loving Tonight, even Doing All Right (on pyschadelic Sunday) but one alleged hit that I have never ever heard was "Good Old Fashioned Loverboy" I often question if it was ever played on US radio....and then question more why it is included on compilations...some of the other vaudeville stuff is much better i.e. Seaside Rendezvous (and that I will hear since some stations will play ANATO from start to finish).....Hollywood Records should get their act together and only put hits on "greatest hits" albums. Having said that, there should be a second Classic Queen album which would include songs like It's Late, Need Your Loving Tonight etc. since those are more likely to recieve some airplay... |
