i mean i think it's a tremendous piece of rock..but i really find the akapella part annoying..it's too simple for queen standarts i think..there should have been more harmonies like in other songs :)) don't get me wrong i love this song..one of my favourites..but still maybe there was a version without that middle part :)) ?? |
Poo, again 23.08.2006 07:29 |
What? How dare you?? :O |
AspiringPhilosophe 23.08.2006 07:43 |
Prophet's Song is also one of my favorites, but, I happen to love the acappella in the middle! That's the best thing about Queen...they were experts at mixing genres that didn't seem to go together, yet making them work beautifully. I've been told that the live versions of the song have sections in the middle missing, simply because they were too complex for Freddie to do all alone without the dubbing capabilities you have when you are in the studio. If you insist on removing this from the song **cringe**, try to track down some live versions. |
icefire 23.08.2006 08:47 |
i thought so about live versions :)) but don't you really think that akapella part is great? i think it's rather monotonic and simple..maybe it's only an impression..once again all in all i adore this song :) for me it's the same about brighton rock..amazingly great song but the guitar part is rather too long and boring..any more opinions? |

I feel it is too long; it breaks up the momentum of the rest of the song. It's almost as if by the time that part is over, I've forgotten what I was listening to in the first place. I kinda feel it should have been left out; doesn't fit the song, IMHO. |

This song is a masterpiece. It's just like leather. You know you shouldn't, but it just feels so right. |
Joeker 23.08.2006 14:06 |
Heres a shorter version of the Prophets song, probably the best mix I've ever heard... link thank you lord fickle |
AspiringPhilosophe 23.08.2006 14:46 |
I will admit the acappella goes on for a bit long, but I still like it. I'm a vocalist by training and nature, so I primarily pay attention to vocals and lyrics in any song, including Queen. I love listening to complicated or different vocal sections in music, and after the beginning of the song the acappella is so different that I really love the contrast. But I understand what you mean. To each his own! :-) |

I like the Prophet's Song and the acapella part but it could have been shorter. I know just what you mean about forgetting what your even listening to. As for live, at Hyde Park Freddie did do a bit of the middle part which was a bit weird. Not all of it of course. |
deleted user 23.08.2006 18:36 |
but that's just cuz the echo machine wasn't working! pretty damn good, considering! listen to any of the other live performances, they are inTENSE. i love the earl's court '77 one... you weirdos. why don't you just mix your own version and cut the (genius)a cappella section? |

there is a very nice version known from Mark Lupker....i always use this song to test the stereo sound of my speakers...and every now and then i take this song on a cd with me to a hifi shop with a listening room, pretending i want to buy expensive equipment, and i play it as loud as possible then...i made many people queenfans by doing this...i love it. Never done before by any rockband, or afterwards....if you guys do this, please tell all the funny stories and reactions here.... |
Marcelo_argentina 24.08.2006 00:13 |
Whats wrong with you people???? making a shorter version of one of the best Queen´s songs????...what do you mean?...are you serious?...I mean this is Queen....like the guy who said that Brighton rock was a little boring...How can you say that???...is Innuendo to long?...are Bohemian vocals to long?...It´s one of the best Brian´s composition ever!!!....I bet that Freddie made the armonies thinking in future performs for the fans like he did in Earls court...just more theatrical and funny singing... Anyway... |

Joeker 24.08.2006 00:36 |
being a queen fan doesnt mean you have like every single song...I.E. She makes me....body language, oh wait that was a classic wasnt it? |
deleted user 24.08.2006 00:39 |
things can be "classically bad"-like ishtar. or body language. but tell me it's not just a *little* amusing! |
Joeker 24.08.2006 00:41 |
its a funny but nearly terrible piece, i think it was written for brian when he had weird body language after smoking the weed that had dog poop in it... |
deleted user 24.08.2006 00:44 |
OR it was written because freddie was perpetually horny. one of the two. |
AmeriQueen 24.08.2006 05:15 |
I have heard Greg Brooks rave about certain earlier versions of the Prophet Song. He said one in particular would be on the box set, but Freddie may have a 70th birthday before it ever is released. Be sure to check out the Earls Court and Houston 77 live versions of The Prophet Song. Freddie goes off into vocal solos that rival Brians Brighton Rock solos. |
icefire 24.08.2006 05:46 |
earls court version is not a complete song..white man in that concert was awesome!! i think that hyde park's version of prophet's song could have been perfect!!! of course if not those problems with echo machine :/ |
deleted user 24.08.2006 06:01 |
i know it's not complete, but it has the a cappella section in it, which imho is the best part!:) i agree with you about hyde park, but in some ways i'm glad the echo machine wasn't working, because it speaks to what a great performer he really was. another band might have just skipped that number. |
AmeriQueen 24.08.2006 06:31 |
Yeah. I know it's silly, but I don't watch the Hyde Park show often because of how dissapointing it is when the echo doesn't work. Here's a thought. Wouldn't it be interesting to hear Paul Rodgers cover 'The Prophet Song' live and do his own echo part, PR style? I'd even do it mixed old school with 'White Man' which is a very Paul-do-able track. |
icefire 24.08.2006 06:44 |
are you serious??? paul doesn't have that anger in his voice to sing the prophet's song IMHO.. his voice fits feel like makin love where he sings 'baby when i think about you i think about uuuus' lol :DD but not the prophet's song :) that's only my opinion ;) |

I suggest you don't make remarks like that around people who know something about music. They'd laugh at you in the face and never value your judgement ever again, and for good reason. As for a version without the middle part: download a nice free program like Goldwave, insert the cd into your computer, load the song in Goldwave, cut the middle section out (blasphemer!), and there you have it. |

The song is awesome because the music it's awesome, the fucking song doesn't need the fucking acappella part to be great |

ThomasQuinn>> why are you so angry..we are just talking about things you know :D i mean i don't know a lot about how to difficult it is to make the akappella part..i just say what i hear-it sounds simple compared to other queen songs with harmonies..what is more i think you should not spread your anger on people who are discussing things just to be cooler and show how much you know about music.. if something is wrong with you blame your destiny..it should help ;) once again i am a friendly guy who wants to express an opinion-forums are made for that..don't misbehave and everything will be fine ;) have a nice day :P |
