It's all got very convoluted - so many threads over so many subjects. Somebody said they have Queen Live In Australia, Feb 1974, on film (audio too????) - the gig when they got boo'd off stage. I cannot recall who said that, or where, but it looked to be a genuine claim. So... is that person going to confirm it or not? DO ANY OF YOU SO CALLED QUEEN FANS have anything rare, or don't ya? If you have, write to my old email address, which you have, and tell me. I'll look into it seriously. PUT UP, SHUT UP... it's all the same to me Ta awfully GBxxxxxxxx |

I would advise against giving anything to Greg or Queen Productions. As I recall, John S Stuart, Karaoke Queen, and probably others loaned items to Queen Productions for the Freddie Box Set only to have them lost with no apology or recompensation. Weeks later someone made a killing on e-bay. |

As to the Sunbury video - I do not believe it exists but I will gladly apologise if I am wrong. As to John's IBEX tapes: some of us know about the Ibex tapes but John never complained on a public board about the loss of his tape as far as I remember. I think it's completely out of order to mock about a private email you got from John and it's also totally out of order to downplay the loss - it does not matter how many tapes were NOT lost. It's also totally irrelevant if John kept a copy or not - fact is that copies were sold on ebay and the tape lost its value through these ebay sales. If your dismissive and sarcastic comments are representative for Queen's attitude towards private collectors who lend recordings to them, then it's obvious that other collectors think twice before lending something to them again. |

Thank you for apologising for the loss of my Ibex tape, I feel so much better knowing that all those e-bay pirates who have survived off my back for so long, did so from a genuine mistake. You will also need to forgive me if I tend to bring this up from time-to-time, as while the Bible suggests I should forgive and turn the other cheek, I am but human with a very long memory. While it is true that I did indeed retain a digital mini-disc and cassette back up of the Ibex material, the tape I provided QPL was indeed the original, as I (stupidly) believed that the master was not only the best quality (even if it was safety copied), but a loan – and as a loan would be properly returned. As by your own admission this never happened, why should I, or anyone else, ever advance Queen Productions anything again? To quote those Chinese again; ‘Sh*t on me once – shame on you, sh*t on me twice – shame on me’. |

He has spent a lot of effort both in financial and time collecting music/items of the band he loves. Only to have QPL use the material then mislay it? I think you would be rather ticked off also. If you can't trust QPL to look after recordings sent to them, then it's a little shoddy down there isn't it. All it takes is a little care, does it not? A worry to all Queen fans is that collectors may not wish to send in material to QPL, if it can't be looked after and cared for. This would mean that fans never get the chance to hear these rarities, but then again we'll probably never hear anything from within the archives anyway unless it's another bloody compilation or yet another version of WWRY. |

"YV: A simple & polite question - which I hope you will answer honestly. Recently in another thread you enqired about a 'Hangman' acetate. Based on all you have learned so far, if you owned something as rare, would you genuinely loan this to QPL?" On the one hand I would want to share with the serious and honest fans who spend their money within the limits of their income and I would want to add to the completeness of an anthology. But from what I have seen on previous occasions and from what I have seen recently I would not lend then something that expensive. I think that the attitude displayed here by the Queen Archivist is disgusting. I think that Queen as a group or/and company MUST be aware of what happened to your IBEX tape and they must be aware about the performance of their archivist on this board. It does not add to their reputation. No - I would not give them anything unique. |

To quote one of my all-time favourite movies: "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few... or the one!" Perhaps, if QPL want a recording of the "Hangman" acetate, they would agree to pay Mr. Stuart's expenses for recording and mastering at an independent studio. I don't know... some arrangement must be made. This track (if it is indeed unique) is too important to be left out of the anthology. Bottom line (and I must quote another movie): "Sometimes we must let go of our pride and do what is requested of us." V. |

"Well all hidden/lost gems should !! come on all you collectors come on GB come on all queenfans let us show the great queen spirit & help those people who sit on the important stuff to make peace so we all can be winners." But if the collectors would provide the "gems" - would QP release them? or would they tell us that the recordings don't meet the quality standard? I think it's unrealistic to believe that Queen, the fans and the collectors are all in the same boat. Just recently a fan asked Brian if he can use some soap box entries for a book he is writing. I think the issue was how Hammer To Fall was recorded in the studio. The answer was no - because Brian did not want to "compromise" some possible future projects. So much for the niceness and the generosity of Brian. If a collector paid thousands for a recording - does he really owe the other fans? And if Queen are offered recordings and don't bother to buy them but a collector buys them - whose responsibility is that? I do understand the position of Queen, too - they want to have control over the release of their own music and it's obvious that if they don't find a recording fit for release, we will never hear it, they have every right to do that. And as long as they sell millions of Greatest Hits variations they will probably never release the anthology because that would be something like the "final chapter". This conflict cannot be solved and each leaked "gem" will be celebrated by the fans and hated by the band. |
Jjeroen 19.07.2006 10:46 |

I think Brian was angry about the leaked demo because it is so unfinished, no guitar and certainly not the final vocal version. (Btw, I love it!!) He just assumed it was stolen when apparently the Cozy Powell Estate sold Cozy's personal tapes and the Japanese bootlegger who bought them releases these tapes by and by . There are also 3 CDs with rehearsals from the BTTL tour which are swapped among the collectors. Again, I really understand both sides: Brian hates it that an unfinished, unpolished demo escapes to the public (with no royalties paid, either!) while the collectors are delighted to hear it. |

Besides: These tapes, at the time, were GIVEN to some other musicians that were to appear on other tracks on COZY's album; to listen to them so they knew what kind of atmosphere Cozy's total album would have. The album that never materialised because Cozy first went to Sabbath and then got an accident. Anyway... I'm drifting off topic again... |

But I don't blame you dude seeing as how he posted it in my thread back then. I did tell you that a friend of my uncle attended that concert and said that he clearly saw someone filming the concert with a Super 8 camera for a pretty long period of time. And yes I still believe his story. As for that so called "german" guy, I heard a few things about that as well but never accurate information. It's supposedly a guy who lives somewhere close to the Dutch border (I think around Limburg) and claims to have shot various complete concerts during 1974-1976 or so including Queen's show in Den Haag. |

I'm very interested in the Japanese gig from 1/5/1975. We know that the footage from the Magic years video comes from this date(and not 19/4like they state on the magic years video) and since it is such a great gig I would like to know what else exists of it. If a whole video recording exists it would be a great find. THAT would be amazing in a seventies live set!!In your book ,GB , you write that both gigs were filmed. If that is the case , even better, but are you sure you didn't make a mistake there? I hope this doesn't sound offensive:-) |

Didn't Sunbury get mentioned a few months back? Someone had allegedly got it from ABC's archive. Then, as Greg says, nothing happens. Mr Strat, from bitter experience I will join YV & GB in the "I'll believe it when I see it" camp. Too many wild claims unfulfilled, by both random individuals and QPL (Top 100 bootlegs, that's maybe for another thread). The other problem is that StratMan makes an impossible demand - he'll only give it if it gets released. Sorry, that's unreasonable. |

"you can thank GB, YV, & PG and others who don't want to put their pride aside for a moment and let someone share a rarity that may prove them wrong" I was not aware that I am keeping you from sharing anything. I said I have my doubts but would gladly be proven wrong. You know - I have been offered "Victory" more often I can remember and I was told to download "Play The Game " with Andy Gibb only to find the usual album track and the list goes on. As far as I am concerned it is unlikely that such a video exists but as I said various times, I would be more than happy to be wrong. Why that is an insult is beyond me. If I claimed to have a full video of Cologne 79 filmed by a friend of mine without ever showing as much as a screen shot nobody would believe me, either. |

as a reaction to the filmed show on December the 8th , 1974, in The Hague, Congresgebouw, where Queen were support to Mott the Hoople...i was there too, and the man who filmed it is a friend of mine. he will not ever give it away. It is rehearsals, show, and backstage according to what he told me, and he wants this tape ( vision only, no sound, i was told, in black and white too) to become his "pension". If Queen were ever to get this film, they will have to pay dearly for it, as the man has asked me to negociate for him, when he recovers this film from his storage. He told me this lready in 1993, when he filmed (again) my Tilburg Tribute gig, and i met him again in Februar this year, and we spoke about this again. I have his adress and phonenumber, and will get back on this issue with him asap. I too, would want to see this film ofcourse. And if it does exist, and is still any good...then i will really ask the highest price possible for this film for him. And if QP won't buy it, then the world will never get to see it i fear. It is the right of this man, to not sell HIS film if the price he wants for it isn't being payed. He will put it on the internet then, for the highest bidder...I am not making up a story here, i am not bullshitting you with this. I WILL go to him, and we'll have a go at searching and trying to find this film. I wonder how much Queen would be willing to pay for such unique and mega rare footage anyway...My friend was thinking about a million euro's, wich doesn't sound that bad to me at all....let's here it from them when the film IS really there. It was a fab show anyway...i was 11 years young, and didn't understand one bit of it all, but i loved it. And after they finished, the band just came off-stage and walked through the audience, and i got stroked on the head by all of them...2 weeks later i saw them again, when (for AVRO Top-Pop) the Killer Queen clip was filmed, and me and my family were there too, as my dad had to record an interview for AVRO radio then. The next year BoRap came, and i was a fan ever since...isn't it beautiful, the way things sometimes go? Anyway...i'll give it my best shot at this guy, and IF it turnes up, i WILL immediately tell you guys about it....the only thing i hope is that he kept it really safe... it has been a long long time since it was filmed...i'll light a candle now....cheerzzz |
bas asselbergs 19.07.2006 20:17 |
by the way, the man who filmed it then, is NOT a german man. After "the tilburg tribute" in 1993, i lost track of him, and just this year (so 13 years later) he was in my city again. He was working as a tourpromotor and concert-film-maker in Germany all these years. He filmed the biggest bands on earth. We had a long talk about this film, and he was very determined to find it. I didn't have the time yet to go and visit him yet, but as said, i will pick up this lead, and do my very best to find out the truth about is story. And if it was a made-up story from him, i will also inform you about it in due time. I'll even put his name and number here then ! hahaha...then he'll be all yours to ....well...eeuh....to....to write to him the way you write to Greg al the time! hahaha...that will teac him then...won't it!? But first....i'll go and search ! |

Mr Brooks, just before Q+PR kicked off there HUGE tour starting in London-Calring Academy-Brixton, i sent an email to someone at QPL, asking what kind of release we could of been expecting from the tour. I was told, and i posted that email on this site, which said something along the lines of (not exact words) "this tour will bring a Boxset of higlights. any shows which has been filmed for TV purpose etc will be included in the boxset, including Brixton, possibly some other European dates and one to show the start of the UK tour" however the release we got was a 1 disc show of Sheffield, which was edited, i.e Under Pressure cut out, and no bonus extras on a second disc like that was promised from someone else. i would just like to ask if you know anything about the poor release of the tour? or if you could find something out as to why this didnt materialise. not having a go just a simple question but to me it seems once again QPL did not keep to there promise. Thank you Paul |

Yes luthorn I noticed that. On QO there was a thread up a while back where a few of us tried to encourage QP to release some of the footage from the vault for the next DVD release - it was hinted that there was not much left in the vault nor was of it good enough quality or complete to be released on a dvd. I am rather miffed slightly with the mention that there are thousands of tapes in QP storage under Greg's care on this post. Hmm if there are indeed thousands of tapes don't you think it would be great if QP released some new footage for us to buy instead of the same stuff recycled all the time? Imagine it if they released new material out there from the vault from the days of Freddie - stuff we have never seen before. I don't understand what is gained by not releasing the footage officially for sale if there is this much footage sitting under Greg and QP finger tips. Brian did mention on his soap box that Roger and he have no say in the Freddie solo footage and it is to do with the estate of Freddie. But surely there must be Queen Footage in that 1000 pile of tapes collection QP has there. Maybe someone can clear this up for me. I can give you the link where this matter was responded to on QO if you like. Just confused by this mention of how much footage and the level of quality Greg mentioned on this post. Isis |

Excellent point Isis - the amount of times that GB keeps contradicting himself with regard to what is/isn't in the vaults keeps mounting up. Firstly there's 'hardly anything' ,now there's 1,000's of tapes ?!?!?!? In addition, he seems to think that if something doesn't exist in the official vaults, then it simply cannot exist or be available elsewhere in private collections. The recent Cozy Powell tape of Brian's 'Marie's The Name' illustrates this. It is very possible that this exact mix/cut doesn't exists in the official archive if it was simply a rough mix for Cozy to take home to listen to - if they then developed it further then that versio nmay well have been recorded over. It has been ably demonstrated elsewhere on this site that rare Beatles recordings have surfaced from private collections that simply do not exist in their extensive official archives. |

I can imagine the frustration - irritation - to QPRod/GB about that so much material, footage and much more is held behind. I heard GB once telling that basically Roger and Brian are deciding what might be published and what not. (at the dutch queenmeeting, I am sure more of you heard that) GB is not more then the man who puts it all in, doing the dusty work, so to say. It is easy to assume here, in the postings, that he should publish more, but it is most likely that not he but others in the QPROD team are responsible for, for example, the permanent delay of the Queen -box, and the decisssion now to do a single box. Point to the proper persons if you can. And assuming things, 'thinking' that there should be done something, 'thinking' that (in this case GB) he should such and that is not realy fair as long as you are not aware of the position that he is in I think (ha, yes, I think as well) that Isis made a nice point in here, I agree with what she tells, that the ones who realy can clear up in this are not we, the fans I do hope that one day QueenProd or the responsible people there - or their spokesmen- will turn to QueenZone and clear the things out a bit In my opinion we, the fans, have the right to know what will be done with stuff (as well as with emails, but therefore we have another topic) But before they can tell they should know themselves of course what is about to come and what not Further, thanks to the many leaks, we have the privilege to KNOW a lot of the things that for one or another reason are not officially published I think that we cannot blame anyone for not officially publishing it We simply know (and most of us HAVE) too much info, or even tapes and so more, with the things that should not have gone out if it was to QueenProd and Queen In this case I think you need to point to the traders (who more or less press to get the things out), and most of all to the people responsible for the leaks |

IsisThat's right Isis. I would like to read those posts, so if you please post a link that would be great. Point to remember, as we all know, is that in the past ten years we only saw one unique release from QP and that was Queen on Fire. Everything else was re-make of already published material. I would say that it is fans who have THOUSNADS of tapes in their archives and not QP. In all honesty, I built my Queen collection thanks to all of you here. |

Audio tapes not video tapes that Greg talked about. See earlier FC mag about 4000 tapes, 75% of them are various backups |

This is where it gets touched on in the first place that I was aware of - this was when there was some communication between the fans and Admin about what was going on for Freddie birthday stuff to come. link You will have to sift through it to get everyone else’s mention to get new stuff out there from the vault for release for Freddie’s birthday. Now the mention of the quality of footage and so on did go up on the boards somewhere - but it was on another post that I did not comment on I just read it. I will keep on looking for it but it is hard to locate it once you lose track of posts. If I can find the comments about the quality of the footage and lack of footage in the vault I will let you know that link. Sorry I have not been tuned in on QO for a while - busy elsewhere |
