I always thought Queen had recorded most of their shows. Brian has stated several times they recorded 'about every show'. When you are a professional band on that level it looks like a normal thing to do to me. Now ,Greg Brooks states in his book that many fans believe this but that it isn't true ,that only 10%!!!!!! or less from the shows were recorded. I really can't believe that. What do you think. I really care about it because the more stuff the better:-) |
Pim Derks 24.05.2006 13:23 |
Well, who believes Greg anyway. |
PieterMC 24.05.2006 13:36 |
I believe a huge number of shows were recorded, but I don't believe that the audience were recorded at the majority of them. |
pcgenius9 24.05.2006 15:09 |
Yeah I agree. An example could be Houston, where the audience are barely hearable at some points. |
rocks. 24.05.2006 15:13 |
Pfft, Greg Brooks doesnt even know which singles went no. 1 where, and you find this shit acurate! Whatever. |
bonnzzo 24.05.2006 17:38 |
I think that most of the shows were recorded. But when you are as anal as Queen were what we think was a great sound recording might have been crap to them, so the typical cop out has always been for Queen or for that matter most bands has been that they didn't really record there shows.... Jimmy Page is way more anal then Bri. The Song Remains the Same really changed the way he looked at Zep Live. So unless it was perfect quality it never came out... which is why when The Zeppelin DVD came out two years ago it freaked me out.....I am rambling....but I digress. |

"I believe a huge number of shows were recorded, but I don't believe that the audience were recorded at the majority of them. " I doubt that greatly. They would have atleast set up one ambience mic, so it didn't sound dry & flat.... it is standard procedure - that soundboard recording from the US tour supporting Mott (Cleveland?) obviously has a mic in the mix picking up the ambience of the room and thats from the very beginning of their career! The mixes accompanying the pro-shot videos available as bootlegs will have been compiled from either the multitracks and are rough mixes or from a seperate mix to what the band would usually record for posterity themselves. |

I did say I DID'NT believe Greg Brooks!!!!! It looks like mentioning his name is enough to be stoned:-) |
Oberon 25.05.2006 07:28 |
Perhaps many concerts were recorded, but not many recordings archived/kept? Or maybe the recordings were lost somehow as were some of the master tapes when they were sent to the US for Hollywood records to copy for their re-mastered releases? Anythings possible. I doubt QPL would necessarily want to admit to having lost all those recordings if that was what happened. Just a thought - I have no proof or evidence or anything even to suggest this is the case. Just Supposin'!!! |
Togg 25.05.2006 08:19 |
It is very possible that most of the shows were indeed recorded, but wiped once they had finished the tour or done with them, why keep hundereds of recordings they never intend to use? I suspect the better ones are stored, but not as many as we'd like to think. As for Greg, well I also think he likes to appear to have power and knowledge over the fans, however he seems to know little in reality. |

They recorded absolutely every show and rehearsal. But Brian May lost most of the recordings in a game of poker with Chuck Norris. PS. What's with all the Chuck Norris jokes on the internet these days? I've been doing it for years (since I was a kid, I used to watch this Bruce Lee movie with Chuck Norris in it) and all of a sudden *everyones* doing it. Man. |

Brian recently answered this on his site, stating that the recordings were without audience sound, and therefore sounded very dry. he said they were mainly for their own purposes in reviewing their performances. |

I recall reading an interview where Brian said after almost every show they listened to the recording on the way back to the hotel in the limo. |
