I had a question about the press release about the upcoming Queen+PR live Japan DVD on Brian May's site. It was the last sentence that got my attention: " The DVD will be released for the first time in Japan prior to any other countries." Does this mean it will (at least eventually) be released in other countries after it comes out in Japan? Another blurb on Brian's site mentions a UK date and US "to be announced." |

It says on Brians site today that it was a mistake and that it will only be released in Japan. |
YourValentine 27.04.2006 08:24 |
On QOL they announce the Japanese DVD - NTSC and region 2 with Japanese subtitles. This is not a UK release becaause it's NTSC. The region is the same for Europe and Japan. I don't believe they will release a PAL version for the UK and a NTSC/region 1 version for the USA. I think they just sell the Japanese version worldwide via QOL. On HMV Japan the DVD costs 4420 Yen if you buy two, that's 30,80 Euros and I pay 2200 Yen (15,40 Euro) shipping for 4 DVDs, I buy the 2 Rock Legend DVDs, too. That's not cheap but also not over-expensive for a Japanese product considering it's a double DVD. oops, I did not see your message in time, Pieter:) |
TruePar 27.04.2006 12:23 |
I did the same thing. I bought the Queen Super Live, Queen Final Live in Japan and Queen Under Review. Total was 11,118 Yen which is roughly $110 Canadian. Which is a fantastic price considering I would have to pay about $30-$50 more if I ordered through my local stores. Can't wait! |

What is the easiest/fastest way to get this release shipped to the states? |

I'd go with HMV Japan. It may still be cheaper than waiting on Ebay. |
Mr Faron Hyte 27.04.2006 20:51 |
I ordered mine through cdjapan.co.jp but HMV Japan is good too. |

hmv.co.jp seems to be on the mark. I had am email from them when I logged on this morning saying that mine had already been posted to the UK. I guess they sent all the pre-orders out a the same time, give or take a few hours. Just have to see how long the actual delivery takes but it's probably a good way to go if you want it quick. |

I was surprised to get a knock on my door this morning from the postman. He then handed me a package from Japan and yes it was my copy of Super Live from hmv.co.jp. They were quick, was not really execting it before the end of the week especially as both countries have been on holiday. Unfortunately, I had to leave about 2 mins later to go to work, but will be heading straight for my DVD player when I get home. First stop disc 2 to take a look at the documentary and discover if there is anything else on the disc. Then back to disc 1 to view the concert in all its glory, between the first 2 episodes of Lost season 2 on TV. I have already seen the concert on bootleg hence the reason I will be going for disc 2 first. Warning Spoiler follows : Box contains two booklets. The first is a lyric booklet mainly in Japanese but also with UK lyrics. Full of text but no pictures except for a few adverts for ROTC etc. The 2nd is a full colour booklet with many pics of Queen+PR is Japan, concert and welcome at airport. Text in English. Cover is a copy of the gold concert program from the European tour with the japanese writing on the back. Pics are good although you have probably seen most of them before. Quite a nice package overall. |
YourValentine 02.05.2006 07:46 |
My package arrived, too:) I have to wait until tonight to watch the concert but I already scanned disc 2 which seems to be a nice documentary containing interviews with all band members and some footage from soundcheck and rehearsal. Fans from various countries were also interviewed, among them Michelle from Norway and Mr. Scully who is labelled "Queen fan from Slovakia" :) Btw, the DVD is ALL regions and NTSC format, so US fans can play it, too. European fans need an NTSC compatible player but that is a standard. |

Is the show still the same as the TV broadcast, with credits in the begining (during Lose Yourself) and at the end? I can see them cutting Lose Yourself because of rights and shit (hope not), if so I think I'll hang on to the bootleg. I love that intro, shame it wasn't on ROTC. |
YourValentine 02.05.2006 17:44 |
The intro is complete:) |

shootingstar wrote: Well then...what else is on it? ...waiting...Caution: spoiler Disc 1 has the complete concert in stereo and DTS. You can choose between English, Japanese or no subtitles. You have a song select menu and that's it. But the concert is awesome and very well filmed in my opinion. Disc 2 has a 25 minute documentary about the Budapest concert. It's short but very entertaining. It has interviews with all band members. If I remember correctly, I saw parts of the Brian interview somewhere else but the others are all new. Mainly Paul Rodgers has nice things to say about Queen, Queen music and the fans. We see the stage being built and bits of rehearsal and sound check. Also interviews with fans from all over Europe. Unfortunately, the part with the fans has only Japanese subtitles, so we don't understand what they say unless we speek Greek, Czech, Norwegian or Hungarian:) The rest of the documentary has English subtitles and is all English, anyway. I think it's a DVD worth having, mainly when you had the chance to see a concert of the tour. One of the best concerts plus very nice additional footage which brings back a lot of good memories. |
DragonOnMyBack 03.05.2006 04:57 |
Your Valentine. The bits of Brian's interview that are on Super Live are from the Tour EPK which can be viewed on queenpluspaulrodgers.com under the Media section. I believe some of Paul's bits are also there, but not all. I think the Roger stuff on Super Live is all new. |
DragonOnMyBack 03.05.2006 05:04 |
I agree it is definately worth having. It has a very different feel to it than Return of The Champions due to the editing and reduced production. Not over produced quick cutting etc. This and ROTC compliment each other quite well. If I could only have 1 of the DVDs from this Tour I would rather have Super Live in Japan than ROTC. It has a better setlist with Teo / Fire and Water / Born To Love You plus Eminem Intro and is easier to watch. The only things you lose really are I Want To Break Free, Imagine and the slow part of Hammer To Fall. Luckily though I don't have to choose so have both. I think I will probably watch Super Live more that ROTC over time. |
epson 03.05.2006 11:55 |

Togg 04.05.2006 05:18 |
I watched the full concert last night and I find it interesting to See how they changed over time from Sheffield. I personally wouldn't say it was a better concert than Sheffield, because I didn't feel the energy was the same, however, Brian plays some more interesting and adventurous guitar, Roger is certainly on form and I like the addition of Teo, can't say as I liked I was born to love you much but the addition of Fire and Water was great. Paul's voice didn't seem as strong as in Sheffield at least in some places Intro for one. One other reason I might think this is I was so keen to see what ROTC was like I just loved it, I am one of the few that likes the editing I think it adds to the pace and makes it rock, this seems a little flat in comparison, however, I accept that others will think differently. As a memento of the tour I think they both are great, can't wait for the next one... |
DragonOnMyBack 04.05.2006 06:01 |
I agree with your comments, the editiing just makes ROTC difficult to watch for me sometimes. I think the 2 DVDs compliment each other quite well, and give you a different feel when watching them. I also agree the crowd atmosphere is not as good, but I think that is mainly due to the fact that it was an all seated concert. I think the crowd responses were better at the the UK/European shows than Japan and US just due to the fact that the floor area was unreserved standing. I would highly recommend both DVDs. I love Fire and Water and Teo so this may influence my DVD preference a little. I also tried the DTS track last night and from a non technical, non sound expect POV like myself it sounded pretty good. In a few areas Paul's vocal is a bit low, but the crowd singing Love Of My Life is very good and also during Brian's Solo. If I was to compare it to ROTC I would say it is on a par, but that is from somebody who does not know a lot about sound, except for I know what I like and it sounded good to me. |

Just viewed the Japan DVD here in the States... ...and boy, what a great alternative to ROTC. Very few overdubs (if any), Paul is spot-on, Brian throws in some great stuff, Roger looks fresh, the lights are unbelievable, and we don't experience the sometimes-vomit-inducing sequences of David Mallet...not to mention the additional songs. Drawbacks that I can see: -crowd participation (although not bad) -Paul's vocals tend to be drowned on a few songs (although I'd like to think that isn't attributed to vocal mishaps) -wanted to see Dragon Attack and Bad Co. All in all, it's worth the price of getting it shipped to Europe or the States, clearly shows how tight the band is, and why the show gets better reviews over time. |

Good DVD overall. Didn't care for some of the vocal intonations on Fire and Water...although I can't really have my cake and eat it, too. Perhaps it was his new take on that timeless song, but I would have liked him to go into the next octave. Suffice it to say he was saving his voice for later, but as the DVD shows, he seemed to be able to hit many high notes througout the entirety of the show... |
Deacon Fan 08.07.2006 10:01 |
Michael, I think you'll be quite pleased with HMV's service. Whenever I order on a Friday, it's delivered on Tuesday or Wednesday. There will be a tracking number at the site which even works for usps.com once it gets into the states. It does need to be signed for. The way that works is their 'EMS' service hands it over to U.S. Express Mail once it's here, so it'll be arriving with your regular mail. If you can't be home, they'll leave a slip. And as others have said, you'll be very happy with the DVD. I think it's a far better show than ROTC. The DTS on this one is fake though. 'Upmixed'. Says so right in the booklet, so I wish they'd dropped that.. pointless in my opinion when you have an excellent quality PCM track. If they'd dropped that, which takes an entire gb of space, they could have had the documentary on the same disc instead of the wasteful 1 gb 2nd disc :-P |
Michael Allred 08.07.2006 15:55 |
I did the tracking bit and it said it was in Chicago already and since it's only 2 hours away from where I live, I'm *hoping* it will arrive today. |
