I would have to say..... Kimchee. I went to my friend's house and she's Korean and it was so disgusting and besides I had to act like I liked it because I didn't want to hurt her feelings. On the hypocritical side, I am German and love liverwurst. My friend tried it and she started gagging. I got all offended and told her to go home.... |

Some years ago my mom tried an experimental recipe for apple pie that used sliced green tomatoes instead of apples (Why? I don't know!). Keep in mind I don't like any tomato that still resembles its original shape and form (they are OK as a sauce, etc) and particularly being GREEN this pie was just awful! I just about gagged when trying to swallow some of the nasty tomato seeds. |

Kimchi is one of the most disgusting things I've ever tried. Once a Korean friend invited me to her house and they had Kimchi for dinner. Out of respect to her mom I decided to try it. My friend mentioned to me that I was probably not going to like it and I shouldn't even try. I only had one sip and she was like... "See, I told you". I remember there was this other time when her sister cooked something sort of like sushi for the Korean festival they had at school. I thought it was going to taste like sushi, but it just tasted awful. I was so embarassed because I was about to gag, and there were other people looking at me. No offense to anyone who is Korean. I love Naengmyon (Noodles with some sort of soy sauce and spices), Bulgogi (steamed steak with sauce), and Deji Kalbi (fried pork). However, when it comes to Kimchi, I think sometimes you have to be Korean to like it. I'm very surprised that William liked it. |

Lol one of those posts reminded me of this time when we went to a party hosted by our Filipino relatives, and my brother picked up this thing that looked like an egg roll but was really filled with fried bananas. So he COATED it in duck sauce and took a bite, he nearly gagged. I bet it would have been good had he eaten it the right way though. Lol and he said, what should I do with it and so I took it and put it on a vacant plate with this big bite in it next to a couple of spring rolls. A few minutes later this guy came and picked up the plate and yelled, "What the hell is this?!" |

Yes, liver is dusgusting, but to germans such as I, liverwurst is awesome. Just like Kimchee and haggis, I guess you have to develop an acquired taste for it. |

Also snails, I'm quite outgoing with what I eat and will try anything and I really like oysters and stuff but snails I found horrible. They were all chewy and lumpy. |

^Very nice description. i will make a mental note never to eat snails. I've never had calamari but caviar on wafer crackers....no comment. |

Sea cucumbers. Oh. My. God. We went to an authentic Chinese restaurant once (as opposed to an American-Chinese restaurant) and ordered this dish filled with veggies (we're not big meat eaters). We're thinking, 'sea cucumbers', cool. New vegetable. Well they packed it up for us and we took it home. Imagine, the table is set, stomachs are rumbling and then we open the foil platter and see not cucumbers but... SLUGS!!!!! Yes. Slugs. I swear. Thick, black, gooey looking slugs. There were about eight of them curled up on top of whatever else was in the platter. I don't know what else was in there or what those things might have tasted like. One sight of them was enough to double me over. <gag> |

ew that's what they serve my grandma in the hospital. It's a sad remake of Salisbury steak with all this floury gravy on it. But with the Chemo she has no other choice what to eat or else she'll end up like that girl Calcium showed in the Anorexia topic. (Which made me puke, btw) |
kagezan1313 29.03.2006 12:51 |
Hmm, well, all in the sushi category, the grossest things I've eaten were: raw shrimp - unlike cooked shrimp, this has the taste and texture of cold snot sea urchin - a grainy almost squash-like orange paste raw squid - very chewy, with a distinct ammonia taste - your tongue goes a bit numb I was spared the horror whale fetus sushi, which I would not have touched, since that would be like eating human baby, but the Japanese eat that too. |

Mungbean Soup. One night staying over at a friend's place for his birfday, his Mum (we were 12 or sumfing) insisted that we ate sumfing at about 5am in the morning as we hadn't gone to sleep that night. Top of the menu was mungbean soup (or 'Mustang soup' as we called it...a few choruses of Mustang Sally got thrown around that table that morning, i can tell you)...i tried to explain that i wasn't hungry, and it almost worked until i said 'yes please' to a piece of bread. |
