OH HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They ROCKED!!!! as Brian said, Detroit FUCKIN ROCKS!!! he said it twice.. lol all is forgiven in my books, there were a couple minor mistakes here and there, but I tell ya, it was AMAZING!! I was back in 1980 a few times. Dragon Attack was TIGHT!!! Ok, it wasn't really sold out, but there were a lot of people there, at first it looked bad, but by the time it started the place was filling up, Brian was smiling a LOT and was just having fun, he said that that was the warmest reception he has coming down for Love of My Life, which was GREAT, he stopped when the crowd was cheering this couple on the monitor that were singing and he gave his woman a kiss, Brian stopped, looked back to see what we were cheering about.. it was great, its funny I saw Queen in Detroit twice and BOTH times Love of my Life was stopped.. Paul was in GREAT form, sure he had a couple mistakes but was just incredible and really really did a great job.. Those were the GREATEST 2 hours I have had in a very long time, I got to meet William from here, and for those who Didnt know.. THAT IS HIM in his profile in the towel and banana.. I am sure there was more, but everything is just a mess in my head.. I do say that you could have snuck a recorder even a VIDEO camera in our section, there were NO guards or anything, no metal detectors, and a BUNCH of cameras.. I want to ask that if ANYONE recorded this show to please post it or to email me, I want it. as well as photos. |
tcg 25.03.2006 00:48 |
Brian May quotes from the show. "Detroit fucking rocks" "You guys fucking rock" "This is the best fucking crowd on tour" It was cool during LOML when they showed that couple on the screen and everyone cheered and Brian stopped the song to take it in. When we entered the arena at 7pm I stopped at the office and asked about attendance. At 7pm they said 12,000 and change. Every seat that was for sale seemed sold. I have some pictures of the crowd I will post later. By the way a stack of tampons on the good cameras with a cheap disposable on top and a young kid looking through my wifes purse worked really well. Matt |
Megamike The GREAT 25.03.2006 00:49 |
I also want to add that Under Pressure was amazing as well.. the WHOLE show was just.... well.. Amazing.. the crowd really did well in singing.. except around me.. and I FAILED.. I tried to get a '39 chant going, but NO ONE would do it near me.. so. I hang my head in shame.. I had a GREAT time and it was worth every penny. ok so I didnt buy the ticket but hey it would have been.. I just wish I had met some of the other zoners.. but I did meet William and his wife.. :) |
tcg 25.03.2006 01:09 |
When Brian was walking towards the stool I gave my best 39 yell, except for my wife, people looked at me like what does that mean. Matt |
Freddie_Jr. 25.03.2006 01:24 |
omg I was yelling for 39 too, I even emailed Brian asking him ever so desperatley to play it, but none the less the show fucking rocked, and as has been stated before Brian May agrees with me. Loved it, best concert I have ever been to, never got to see Queen with Freddie, and if it's that bad ass without him, man, I could only imagine... |
Megamike The GREAT 25.03.2006 01:27 |
Yeah, I went around to a LOT of people telling them that after Crazy little thing to yell for 39, and I said it to the people around me, yet when the moement came.. NOPE.. I was the only one yelling it where I was.. and I was way up in the nosebleeds.. although I DID think he was going to do it for a brief moment |
Freddie_Jr. 25.03.2006 01:40 |
damn, I thought he was gonna play '39 too, I was in the 6th row just hollering it at every silent moment. I noticed someone waving a huge banner with '39 painted in green. Man I would've loved to hear that. Oh well still a damn good concert. |
2001pm 25.03.2006 01:49 |
They kicked serious butt. Harmonies in tune. Roger singing like a bird and whomping the drums as usual. Brian having the time of his lif on stage. Detroit crowd probably 90 percent full when all showed up. Brian was quoted accurately above. Paul Rodgers was great--a tiny bit of tour-rasp on some notes, but all singers get that. The "unheralded three" on guitars, bass, keys and vocals were TIGHT. Freddie video made me wanna cry. |
wstüssyb 25.03.2006 02:48 |
Yea this show was a lot better then NJ and Cleveland. Seen Erin on the screen twice. I think I seen her ask for a setlist sheet after the show. You could hear me Scream "Under Pressure" right before they played it, about 60 people looked at me, then the bass started LOL Smelled some one smoking a Joint about 2 seperate times, my feet got stuck, the floors in the nose bleeds need to be cleaned once every 30 years :) Was great meeting you Mike, Funny how you came to my section and asked is any one here from QZ? and my wife pointing at me, lol Loved your shirt BTW, best Queen shirts IMO. I seen 2 people Video taping, nice camcorders they looked quite expensive, maybe this will be online soon and I seen another person recording. |
wstüssyb 25.03.2006 02:52 |
Also, was quite funny to be pulling in the arena and Erin and Pieter in the next car over paying the same freaking $15.00 to park there, lol |

I don't know why they curtained off those sections. The sightlines from the curtained section would have been better for the stage screen and lights than where I sat in sec 216. I'll say this much: Detroit rocked! I was blown away by the crowd response to Paul Rodgers' songs. I heard so many people singing on Bad Company. The show was good. I preferred the Toronto show but I was impressed with the audience in Detroit. A lot of people came in late. For anyone attending a Q+PR concert they start within a few minutes of the time on your ticket. If it says 8:00 then be in your seats(on your feet) at 8:00. The same thing happened in Toronto with people coming in late. Once the crowd had arrived they were great. I don't know how Brian thinks playing Under Pressure is living dangerously. They've played it a few times and it's getting better. I wish they would take some real chances and do something really unexpected but the show they put on is really good and for most of the audience they don't know what to expect. I yelled '39 when Brian came out for his acoustic bit. No luck. Thought it was funny when the crowd was cheering the couple on the vid screen during LOML. Brian looked back but missed it. I hope somebody fills him in. Well I had to drive home through mostly crappy weather for over 5 hours so I'm off to bed. Glad to say I went to see Q+PR in Detroit and had a great time. |

Hey morning all, I'm a Brit living in the US and had the privaledge to see the boys last night. You know I got to say it makes such a pleasant change to read reviews where you end up not thinking 'Hey were we at the same concert!' I am not going to wax and wane about the concert it has been all said before, and by writers who can bring the impressions to life far better than I. A brief montage of the thoughts going through my mind, it's a pretty bad place to go to so try and avoid it! You know I think the PR is exactly what they wanted. I cannot claim to knowing them personally but I have been on the fringe of people who drifted in and out of the circles they live in. I honestly think they have promoted it the way it is because they do not claim it to be Queen as such they are not lazy enough to live off old reputations (OK most are old songs but they are timeless and in a lot of instances it makes me glad to have been a member of the generation that heard them as new ones, I guess I'm bigoted but where are the successors of these groups?) they want to make new ones for a new band, not even a tribute band. You know what I think it's working too, I mean read the reviews here from day one there has been a slow change to the swell of ground opinion, to what we are reading now. The good news? If we are lucky enough they may come again to 'see us' the bad news .... it'll be fecken harder to get tickets! My penny worth of the show, the happiness and fun exuded by the band. The quiet professionalism of the roadies, the way the cameras recording the show did not impinge on your viewing the rhythm section - especially that bassist (who I have had the misfortune of not hearing before) playing their hearts out Roger Taylor knackering himself on the drums probably asking himself could we not have done this 10 years ago dear lord? Brian May playing his guts out on 'All Right Now' I don't know having not been at the other concerts but I got the impression that he put something just a little bit extra into the Detroit gig last night. I wish I could have recorded that solo and then used it for a ring tone. The only fecken trouble would be the fact that I would never get around to answering the cell...but it sure as hell would have killed all conversation around me Paul Rodgers, the man who knew he could not win just break even. Never once has he hid behind Freddie. He has given it all he can as only Paul Rodgers can. Probably he above all others (not because he is better than the others) is the one we should all be saying thank you to, for without him Brian and Roger would not be entertaining us. Finally, DETROIT the crowd, thank you you made me proud to be living in your country and sharing your hospitality. What better words than those already attributed to the band 'Detroit you fecken Rock!' Oh the concert? Well I had fun and I suspect one or two others did to! |

Having seen Queen in '80 and '82 at Joe Louis....well, now that I'm in Maryland, I am so frickin jealous of those who saw the concert at The Palace last night. NJ was great, DC was great, but there is only one home of rock n roll, BABY!!!! And that's Detroit Rock City. Glad you all had a great time, and that the band was on fire yet again. joe, wife, gang+ |

if brian liked it really that much, then i don't get it why was detroit crowd not worth extra song just for them? i mean maybe 'born to love you' or what ever on encore? just to thank and say you people were special... but no |
wstüssyb 25.03.2006 17:16 |
Well they did do a extra few min on the stage after the show, the applause was long and a great standing ovation, "all right now" did seem a little bit longer and Brian and Paul we having a blast with it Was thinking they would add I want it all, as it seemed quite fitting for this show, sucks they dropped it. |
PieterMC 25.03.2006 19:25 |
Back in Charleston, WV. Half way home. Detroit was unbelievable!!! I did not think that this show could be better than Chicago, but I was wrong. The crowd was insane. The group at the end of the catwalk tried our hardest to get '39 played, but it was not to be. Brian made a comment that the crowd was like Rome, England and some other places all together. He really seemed blown away by the reaction. I would love to see the picture of me taking a picture of Brian & Paul *LOL* $15 for parking. What a ripoff!! :-) |
Megamike The GREAT 25.03.2006 19:36 |
I bet Brian was glad to have played Detroit.. both times I have seen Queen in Detroit the audience has been NUTS.. and as I mentioned, both times I saw Queen they stopped Love of My Life.. so it must be me..LOL I swear if they were to have recorded ANY show in the US it should have been Detroit.. even though Brian would have had to edit the F word out.. LOL yeah, that $15.00 to park is a rip-off.. its the states way to help pay for its road work.. |
teleman 25.03.2006 20:26 |
$15.00 for parking doesn't bother me. I've seen worse. We left Toronto late and I was sure we would miss the start. We got to Auburn Hills with 15 minutes to spare and got a great parking spot. I'm still buzzing from last night. Detroit rocks! |

Although I am a HUGE Queen fan, I attended the concert with skepticism. My doubts were soon replaced with sheer joy. I am not really very old, 18 today in fact, but I seriously consider yesterday as the best day of my life. Paul Rodgers had huge shoes to fill, and did a great job of smoothing things over by adding in his own songs. Wow, I never realized how great Brian's voice is until he sang last night. It was truly beautiful. The whole show was entertaining. My favorite part was the Bohemian Rhapsody tribute to Freddie. As a die-bard Freddie fan, I actually teared up a little, and the crowd went wild. There was no none sense, just straight to the point music. The didn't have an opening act (thank God) and then they didn't drag things out with an encore. All in all, it was amazing. I will never be able to see anything that incredible again, and that will live on in my memory as the greatest concert ever. |

I have a question, and pardon me if someone has answered it before; why did some people want to hear '39 so badly? It is an awesome song, no doubt, but I was just curious why everyone has rallied together to have it performed. I was asked by someone at the east entrance to chant it, and my group did. Anyway, it was just a curious question. Thanks. - Charlotte |
Zak Royen 26.03.2006 04:01 |
i may well have been one of the 2 guys asking you to chant '39, lottie :P i guess we wanted the song because we like it. also, i guess the longer the show, the better. Brian just totally ignored us. (i'm sure he DID hear us... i was like right next to the catwalk, and i screamed "Brian May please sing '39!", and lots of people around us kept chanting the name of the song...) apart from that... the best QPR gig i've seen. and it was really good to meet some QZ people there ;) |

Hey peeps! Just got back home - jetlegged, so I'll keep it short! ;-) Detroit was SUPERB! Great atmosphere and the band played a very tight set! Was it just me that had the feeling though that Paul had slight voice problems?? (Hey, he was still amazing, but just comparted to other nights...) I saw Erin on the big screen in the beginning! ;-) I saw myself on the big screen at the end during GSTQ!! :-D (Yes, I was the one nerdy enough to take out my flag ;-))) that I initiatlly just brought to cover up for my recording divice - which they took away from me at the entrance :-S But WHY on earth was I the only one singing along to LOML??? You Americans REALY need a lesson in audiance participation! ;-))) During Under Pressure the roof blew off, though!!! What a FABULOUS moment!! Anyway, I had a great time, would not have wanted to have missed it for anything. It's one year today exactly since Brixton. Can't believe what happened in that time. The band become SO much better and to me personally, the tour was a blast. Detroit was a very worthy last stop! |
YourValentine 28.03.2006 07:49 |
Good to see you had a good time, Jeroen. You missed William, which is really inexcusable:) Too bad they snatched your equipment - again. Luckily, there is a nice audio recording available. |
Erin 28.03.2006 07:50 |
I was wondering what happened to you, jeroen! What did they do with your recording device, after they took it? I made a small, paper sign that said '39 on it, and they made me throw it away..geez.. If I had known that would be a problem, I would've folded it up tiny. I have a feeling that no amount of signs or yelling would have got us '39 anyway! ;-) Brian HAD to have heard people screaming for it at the end of the catwalk. Oh well.. |
Erin 28.03.2006 07:53 |
YourValentine wrote: You missed William, which is really inexcusable:)I still can't believe we pulled into the parking lot RIGHT behind, William. I knew it was him, cause of the "STUSSYB" license plate..*lol* Really, what are the chances? ;-D |

At least pleanty of people sang LOML in Detroit! |
Jjeroen 28.03.2006 08:15 |
Haha - I am downloading Detroit right now! I said to my friends afterwards that I REALY hoped someone else did succeed in recording. This was a too good show to let it be lost forever. Wonder If I can hear myself in the bootleg ;-))) They already took my gear at the entrance. They where just very politely in saying that it was not allowed and that I got the choice to put it back in the car or leave it at the desk. I left it there and picked it up afterwards. Security was indeed rediciolously tight. At first they already came up to me when I stood up from my chair! Hey TYMD - NO WAY I am sitting down!! I did not sit down at all after that ;-) I was sitting on the last chair next to the isle and when I one time stood NEXT to my chair insteed of in front of it, they came up to me AGAIN! Then I also saw them telling people off who put their empty cups next to them on the floor... Then there was this smell of weed (which actually came from two guys right behind me) - you should have seen them! There where tens of security guards wandering round. Of course all where looking at me, (I only had a beer! ;-) because I was obviously 'different', having A BALL, compared to the much lamer people around me ;-))) Hey, they took my recording divice, and I don't get to sing along that often ;-) I made sure I lost my voice in Detroit! ;-))) LOL, after the show the guys with the weed came up to me and showed their respect; "You were jammin' man"! ;-))) But anyway; yeah, I realy pitty the security people inside. Their hyper-strictness was just sad. Well, at least they get payed for something. They kept themselves realy busy all night ;-) Btw: I forgot to mention that I realy liked seeing that Paul now also has his trip 'down memory lane' on the big screen during Bad Company. There are all kinds of old BC, Free and even The Firm-pictures in there. Great to see a shot of Jimmy Page in there too! :-) |

Freddie_Jr. 28.03.2006 10:12 |
Down by where I was sitting these guys tried to sneak on to the floor, the secerity guard was like "GET YO ASSES OUT THESE SEATS!" I couldn't help but laugh. if someone could get me a copy of that bootleg I'd love to see it, I'm standing on my chair half the time and you can probably hear me screaming every now and than. heh, amazing concert! |
JustHisWife 28.03.2006 10:16 |
License plate: dead givaway... can't hide from anybody on the road :-) On security: the guard that searched my purse in Detroit didn't even see my camera, and all I had on top of it was some makeup and kleenex. On smells: at the Cleveland show it just smelled of food real bad, and then beer. At the Detroit show, it was a weedfest around us. It is funny how they try to make sure you don't have a recording device but nobody cares about illegal substances... Erin, I wanted to give you a hug after the show, I noticed you were very exited but a little sad to begin with. We were going to leave a message in your car window but Cliffy and Bill started to get colorful in their language and it was just too cold to stand out there and argue about it (plus I was hungry)... Hope you guys had a safe ride back home. PS: our old car also had a pretty big Stussy sticker in the back window, to leave no doubts on ownership ;-) |

Its funny that you all are talking about tight security... because when me and my friend got in, (I was the first ticket taken on the East enterance nearest to the ticket window) all they did was tell us to enjoy the show and scanned our ticket, there were NO security, no checks or anything, and when we got to our section there was no one there to check us out there either, so we could have smuggled in all kinds of stuff.. Yeah weed was VERY prominate at this show, it was funny there were a group of young kids behind us that kept saying it smells like Skunk.. lol of course that weed was mixed with something. oh yeah, and those same kids BARELY left the show with all their teeth in place, they just would NOT shut up.. I understand the need to yell and sing along, but NOT hold personal conversations the ENTIRE show.. we told them if they wanted to just talk to go out in the main hall, they can still HEAR the music and talk, but they said no.. the only thing that saved them was they were under 18.. my friend was the one that was really pissed, I myself was having WAY too much fun to really care.. lol Both times I saw Queen in Detroit they REALLY rocked more than the shows around them, and for that I am PROUD.. my only regret is I was not able to meet more from Queenzone.. but then again, meeting William was enough.. You Americans REALY need a lesson in audiance participation! ;-)))Detroit was that good wasn't it. I agree about Paul's voice. I thought it sounded a little fatigued. Still sounded good but not as good as the Toronto show or some of the bootlegs, DVDs etc. I sang on LOML but started to get self conscious since everyone was soooo quiet around me. My usually boisterous friend, who sang sooo loud in Toronto, stopped singing on LOML. The people in the row ahead of me were up and down all night getting beer. The effects of their consumption finally assisted their audience participation during We Will Rock You. Detroit was off the hook! I think Brian was just blown away with how much Detroit loves Queen. Glad I was finally able to see Queen live albeit w/o John or Freddie. All security said was, "Open your Jacket and Have a good time." Didn't smell any weed. Just had people behind me talking thru the whole thing and a couple of drunks yelling in Hindu (I believe) near the end of the concert. Took about 100 pics, unfortunely most were very blurry. Most of the best ones came at the end of concert. Guess I should have learned to use my camera a little bit better. Didn't notice too many mistakes, but the one that sticks out is early in the concert when Paul dropped his microphone. Sang pretty much throughout the whole concert. Loved the audience participation bits during LOML, Radio Gaga, Roger's drum solo and maybe Cant get Enough of your Love. All in All, that was THE best concert I've ever been to. Hope they tour again and play Detroit. If not, then more DVDs and CD's. We want more Queen. Sorry if I seem a liitle over the top, but I still feeling it from Friday night. |

Yes driving five hours in nasty weather was not nice, but totally worth it. I had to drive 6 hours in nasty weather, but stayed over night in Auburn Hills. I had to see Queen one more time after the Toronto and Buffalo shows! The curtained area at the Palace seemed to me to be a waste of seating. It looked like those seats would be great to see the band front on. I had to make a choice between expensive seats and seeing them once or $45.00 seats and see them more than once.
