I LOVE this song, one of my favorites, and I love the video too, but what the heck is this song talking about? I read the lyrics, and I still dont know what the song is talking about, its a very catchy tune, and fun and upbeat, but its kinda hard to enjoy a song, (well, I do enjoy it) but I just dont know what its talking about. I know that no one in here wrote the song, but can anybody give their take on it at least? |

All i can say is BRIAN looks hot in that video! Wearing his oversized Bart Simpson tshirt and guiness beer in his hand... just a lovely video. |

Anyone care to guess on "Now you've got strings, you're gonna lose your rag?" "Hoop diddy diddy, Hoop diddy do?" (Fa la la la la). |

? something to do with Brian's beginning relationship w/Anita Dobson and ending relationship his wife..."soup in the laundry bag" is dirty laundry or tabloid rumors. But there's other stuff too..."She used to be a man with a stick in her hand" is that Freddie unable/unwilling to tour? The bit about the hot dog stand reminds me of Freddie's comment about being a musical prostitute. Imho the lyrics of "Headlong" are about Brian's relationships colliding with his musical career "and ya can't stop rockin" |

Back as a teen... me and friends used to sing along with this song in the car. The only thing different was when we sung the chorus. Instead of singing "headlong"... we sang "longhead." Try it... |
RETROLOVE 17.03.2006 00:44 |
lol @ longhead!! |

This is what it means: Dears all of these lyrics are VERY open sexual innuendo double entendre. What the heck do you think this stuff means...translation for those double entendre impaired among us. "He used to be a man with a stick in his hand." He used to be a guy that could get it up,(as in phallus erect), and spank his monkey (if you don;t know what that means...use his hand...masturbation, aw figure it out!) "She used to a woman with a hot dog stand." (She used to be a woman that could get it on, alot and have lots of sex with lots of men.) "Now you've got soup in the laundry bag". Now he can get it up, ejaculate, she can get it on..they can get it on together...as in sex! Last phallus erect, has lots of slang metaphors as "Stick", Hot dog, tube steak, baloney, wood, pecker...shall I go on. LOL..THE SONG SOUNDS SO INNOCENT, BUT IT HAS A DOUBLE MEANING, LOL!!! |

Am I the only one who thinks the line "He used to be a man with a stick in his hand." sounds like "He used to be a man with his dick in his hand."? Yes? I'll get me coat... |

I suspect that headlong like Tear It Up was written to make a big noise rather than be a Larkinesque masterpiece. I love the song though, Fred gives a really distinctive vocal performanc eon it- rather throaty and mock American. |

No, I'm not offended in the least. :) I'm just curious. It's like the time someone said that Brian's singing sounds American - and I fully agree with that. But - Umm... what's "cod-American?" Does it have to do with vowel colors (broad and flat), or a certain regional sound, or our penchant for hard "r's"? (Maybe I should just listen to it again.) :D |
Kasienka 17.03.2006 14:08 |
I just wanted to add that Freddie's voice, particulary in this song (and I want it all),sounds sooooo sexy :)))) |

In Jim Hutton's book, "Mercury and Me," he says that Freddie wrote it about his impending death and how he was trying to fit too much into the end of his life, also because he did not want to confront it. |
Invisible Woman 18.01.2019 09:17 |
^ Jim didn't say " Freddie wrote the lyrics". (because he not wrote it) He said that part of the lyrics sound like describe their situation about his illness. |

.DeaconJohn. wrote: Am I the only one who thinks the line "He used to be a man with a stick in his hand." sounds like "He used to be a man with his dick in his hand."? Yes? I'll get me coat...Nope. It's been discussed before. I've said the same thing a couple years back when it was prob last brought up. It IS suggestive of a new relationship with turmoil. (Get me out of this cheap b movie!) Also her "hot dog stand" could be a set of dildos pretty much. It begins about the two of them separately; USED TO BE (alone, each one) NOW, etc... It's a dirty song with double entendres again. Brian did a few of them. I like it. When i first heard it (way after its release) I figured it was Brian's attempt at writing a driving rhythm song ala THE CULT (who were big in L.A. at the time) Thinking with ur dicking cap on. (Or lack of thinking). |
RON_JEREMY_fucks_your_wife_hard 19.01.2019 00:37 |
I thought the song was called Hedgehog and was about me. Hmmm...... too bad “I’M THE ONE AND ONLY RON JEREMY - NICKNAMED ‘THE HEDGEHOG’. I’M THE KING OF PORN AND ALWAYS RIGHT. MY HOBBIES ARE FUCKING SOMEONE ELSE’S WIFE AND BOWLING” |
OhioMustapha 19.01.2019 22:31 |
it doesnt matter what they are talking about, just enjoy the song. |
Adam Is The Best! 20.01.2019 20:00 |
I think that Freddie could foresee the future when he sang about a ‘red hot man’. That’s about Adam. A 100% |
