I seem to recall reading, many years ago, that only Brian and Roger re-recorded their own parts on this song. However, after hearing the retake recently, I noticed some new bass parts that I hadn't noticed on the original, notably in the intro.
Surely, John's involvement in this song would have been more well-known, but I don't recall reading anywhere that he was involved. Was there something that I missed, or did Brian re-record John's bass parts?
It's an interesting conjecture... with the song having had such a radical update they'd be fools not to change the bass to match the rest anyway.
No idea who did it though... granted, since they would have all been in the studio anyway to do No One But You, would it have been too much of a stretch for John to have done I Can't Live With You again?
Perhaps. Who knows - Brian's e-mail, anyone??? :D

They just could use bass parts from other takes of that track from the Innuendo sessions.
Vinou: " They just could use bass parts from other takes of that track from the Innuendo sessions." "This is exactly what they did."
I don't know how you know this with such certainty.
I recall well that Jackie Smith at the Fan Club was asked if John was involved with the Rocks Re-Takes - and she replied "yes".
Let's not forget that JD was still on scene around the time of the Rocks Re-Takes. He had recorded "No One But You" and still contributed to the Fan Club magazines.

Is it worth me buying Queen Rocks for this track? I found it today in my local record shop for £7 and that is the only track on there I do not have (save for a stand-alone TYMD). Is this song worth £7, or not really?
Hard to say. It´s nice, and at the start of the month defenitely worth it. Near the end of the month it´s a waste of money. BTW, I like the ICLWY-version of Rocks far better than the original.
Then you must have a magical copy of Greatest Flix III, because not only was a video not made for 'I Can't Live With You', but it also wasn't a single, thus barring its inclusion from any form of Greatest Hits or Flix.
