All I know (after reading different books about Freddie) is that 2 weeks before dying Freddie came back from Montreux after recording the last bits that ended up on 'Made In Heaven'. Upon arrival Freddie told Mary, Phoebe, and Jim that he was going to stop taking his medicine (can't tell exactly what kind of medicine that was) but the only medicine from then on that he was going to be taking was painkillers. Since by then Freddie's illness had spread to a point of a nearly complete annihilation of his immune system, then perhaps the medicine he was taking was for his pneumonea (which was what ended up killing him). |

Yea, its in i think "Mercury and Me". Its soooo sad. Im taking this 3 day course on evolution and we're going to learn next week about how there may never be a cure for HIV because of its constant mutations. When i learn more i can let you know. What are you researching for specifically? because this stuff is really interesting to me, like searching for cures etc, its the same with cancer. In my bio class last year, all of my monthly article reports were on either AIDS, Cancer or Lou Gherig's (ALS) Disease and research into cures and causes of it. |

kdj2hot 03.02.2006 12:19 |
Sup Jaime (lol talking to people you don't know like you know them is a good way to be successful in business fyi) the drug was called AZT. It's still in use as a cocktail with other drugs. This may depress some but in the early days doctors where prescribing way too high of a dose. Which increased the side effects which included fatigue, headaches, nausea, stuff like that. That was the reason Freddie didn't have a lot of energy even "early on". He wasn't necessarily "sick" during recording the miracle, which is why he didn't look that ill during that phase, he was just going through the side effects of AZT probably. It was keeping him alive though and he decided to accept his fate and go off it. The sad part is if he probably would've held on a few more months because of breakthroughs he probably could've lived considerably longer. The quality of life he would've had is up to debate since he was losing his site and things of that nature. I don't think you can reverse things like that. |
bohemian 11513 03.02.2006 12:45 |

Forever88 03.02.2006 14:16 |
I think that evidence of the use of AZT on him is visible early on, i mean, look at him on the works tour, and then the magic tour, maybe even live aid. The shape of his face is different, ie: His cheek bones seem to be wide rather than high his face looks fatter and his eyelids are a little droopy |
deleted user 03.02.2006 14:24 |
All through the 80s like Live Aid and the Magic Tour his face was normal and in the Barcelona sort of era he kind of bloated out a bit. His face was more round then in like '89 his face went thin. And in the 90s his face just looks so bad. His eyes looked different and I can't believe it was him. He changed so dramatically. If you look at an 80s pic then a 90s one it looks like 2 different people. It's awful. |

I think the brit Award photos are interesting- on some of them, I think he actualy looks quite well- particularly cutting the cake and the one with George Michael but on others he looks awful-possibly to do with the light, camera angle and time taken- I rmeember he got a bit tired and left early. |

I think Freddie only found he had HIV/AIDS until 1987. Once you know you've acquired the HIV virus, you immediatly follow doctors instructions to cut anything that might be a hazard to your health. Since Freddie was a heavy smoker, I doubt he kept the habit even after finding he was HIV positive. As far as I'm concerned the last times we see Freddie holding a cigarrette is during 'The Magic Tour'. He might have been HIV positive then, but he probably didn't know. |

didnt they just cancel a research for the vaccine for HIV/AIDS? i was going to be in a clinical study for this, but i showed up late and they closed my books, i missed out. but i hear in south africa they stopped the research, does anyone know why? i think they need to take some of magic johnsons strand, i think his T-cells kicked the virus' ass :-p hes been living with it for how long? a while ago i saw something on 'the black plague' and why some people were immune to it while most others perished. they say theres a strand of DNA that some people have that can fight those kinds of things. maybe if they took the synthetic version of these strands and multiplied them? i dunno, im not a doctor. i wish i could remember that show tho, its intersting, and it would answer alot of your questions, jamie. |
