Hi everyone, Just a bit of a moan here-why is it that so many Queen collectors wont trade certain so called 'rare' shows. I mean its not as if they own the copyright to the recording is it! I've been trading for a number of years now and with other bands like Iron Maiden Rush etc and people seemed to be much more grown up when they are trading these types of group? Is it just me? Its like the mp3 thing! It seems that certain Queen collectors relish the fact that 'others'cant have the same quality shows they have and think they are being hugely gracious and kind spreading them in low quality mp3. Isnt this collecting business all about getting the best quality shows? There is just too many Queen collectors out there with the attitude of a 5 year old kid-keeping the best/rarest shows to themselves!!! So you sad collectors out there who have the kind of attitude I have detailed above! GROW UP!!! And to all the REAL Queen collectors/music fans!! Good luck with your collections as you'll need it!! Rant over........... |

I think Queen collectors are quite generous. They have shared a lot of high quality shows on QZ all for free in flac format and DVD. In fact, the best shows have been on QZ for free. If some people stopped the sharing it's because shows appeared on ebay and the general attitude of this community has changed in a way that sharing is no longer that much fun as it used to be. To blame it on the collectors is really a bit unfair. |

There are some collectors that behave as they're in posse of the holly graal but the only thing they have is a MP3!!! I mean, a rare record is a rare record but what's the definition of a rare MP3?!!- I have a rare MP3- sounds ridiculous to me. I'm not complaining though, but as John S Stuart stated before, some collector didn't guave him a copy of the demo "FAce it Alone" because he didn't have something that worthy for a trade. What is this? Pure selfishness, but it's their right. I wonder how they got the tape... The funny thing about this is that in 2009 (hopefully) with the Boxes out all the rare MP3 are going to be worthless!- I understand that when you have the "Seven Seas of Rhye" single you have a rare item, but it doesn't hurt if you copy the B-side "SWAFIB" to other people so they can hear the song. You still have your valluable item and those who can't find it or afford it, get the chance to hear a new Queen song. But now with the Demos it seems that mentality has changed. I refuse to guive any value to something that hasn't been oficially realeased (MP3)! Take care |

I'll make it short. Those who disagree with the way things operate can do nothing and wait here for a few things to get shared. After a few mouse clicks, you have a new song or concert - something which more serious collectors have already had for months, or maybe even years. Those who accept the way things operate will work their asses off and accumulate rare material to trade for other rare material. When certain material has been sufficiently traded, it may get shared at a place like this, or traded freely. It's called collecting. It's what collectors have been doing for decades - including Iron Maiden collectors. They have their circles, as do Zeppelin, Beatles, U2, and Queen collectors. There will always be things that the general public will eventually hear if a collector is generous. And there will always be things the general public will never hear - because they didn't bother to start collecting. We are in the downloading age, where people expect things to be handed to them on a silver platter. In the real world, accomplishing things requires effort. If one doesn't start making contacts and searching for the goodies, then they'll always be several steps behind. I didn't make up the rules. I just choose to accept them as they are. |

Is it a coincidence that tarbee's rant appeared one hour after the following topic was posted???? - link Evidently neither side in the trader/leecher debate will qualify for sainthood. |

If I was a trader and I had something rare to share, I would first put it out in MP3 and retain the Lossless file. I would imagine that even with MP3 versions circulating there's always the serious listeners who want lossless files. |

Apparently, we are discussing two issues now. The topic starter is unhappy about mp3 versions of live concerts and bobby_brown about mp3 demos, outtakes and rare song edits which are not shared. I do not know too much about the latter but I know that you have to spend a lot of money for promo tapes, unreleased studio material etc and there are some unreleased demos that were not on the Freddie box or leaked from QP. I really cannot blame anyone who spent a fortune on rare stuff if he keeps it to himself no matter for what reason. How someone cannot give John Stuart a demo after all he has done for the Queen community is beyond me but I am sure he understands it better because if you sent him an email and asked him for a rare demo he would not give it to you, either. Live concerts (bootlegs) is a different matter. There is an established trader community who have their rules and if you want to have something you have to follow the rules. You may not like the rules but then you have to stay away from trading. As to rare shows - I do not think there are many rare shows, most concerts are quite freely available. I have not heard about any trader/collector who swaps mp3 shows. But if a collector uploads his self taped concerts for free in mp3 format - who can honestly complain about that? It's free and you can listen to it. |

And I would like to add something. Many people are asking for Drammen 1982. Why? Because of its rarity? Don't forget. There are at least 10 bootlegs with the same quality or even better quality which are freely available here on QZ or the QueenHUB. Rarities will always be there. Some recordings are traded in small circles or won't even be traded. And why share everything immediately? Trading is fun, let's keep it that way. And as Barbera says, many things are available for Queenfans, be satisfied with it, or otherwise start trading yourself. |

I wasn't complaining, i just have a different point of view to what makes a cllection more worthy or not. For me, rare bootlegs or concerts doesn't make your collection worthy (by difinition, things only have the value you guive them!!). To have rare oficially realeased items like the first Queen single "Keep Youirself Alive" is indeed a valuable item that will increase your collection value. But to have a rare bootleg of a concert or whathever, it's good because it's a new thing that you can hear from Queen but it doesn't necessary increases the value of your collection, unless you think otherwise! I'm thankfull for the uploads of Queenzone, don't get me wrong and i respect the Queen trade rules, i'm just saying that i don't agree with some of them because the things they are trading shouldn't be in their hands in the first place. I'm in POrtugal, so it's possible that i could find something released only in Portugal. If people want a trade then it's possible if i'm inbterested in something rare only released in the Trader rcountry, etc. In this situation the fans are in equal situations, because Queen allways released different items in several countries. Now, the situation were discussing here is different, because: I don't know Greg Brooks personally or any other Queen archivist, but for me the source of those rare items is too much obvious (it's from the inside). Someone paid a lot of money for them, then someone received a lot of money for them. Simple as that!! And sometimes this is not the case, there are a few ones that received rare items only with the condition of not guiving them to anyone, and these are probably the ones who sells them. Shame on them... For me, one of the things that upseted me the most was two years ago when Brian May asked for the "News of the World" Master Tapes that were missing. Lets hope that this mastertapes are just lost in the archives, because he didn't received any if them!! For some reason, some private collector thinks is the right owner of them because he paid for them! This makes me feel sad about somethings, and especially about people that are being paid to do a job and are stealing things that are priceless just to make some money. And then i feel sad about people that pays them and think they're the choosen ones and deserve the exclusivity of it, like they've worked hard to get them- I mean Queen worked hard- not them! I don't wish to cover every aspects of the traders but you'll get the point about what i think of it!! PS: It wasn't my intention to hurt anybody's feelings in this board, and i don't wish to change things. I just made the decision not to be part of it!! Take care |
