Now that Brian has been honoured by the Queen (in the summer) surely it is also right that Roger & John are also honoured at some point. Roger has probably done just as much charity work as Brian, like the 46664 and Party in the Palace concerts and all the Mercury Pheonix trust work etc. It's even more dishartenting when you see what awards other people have got like the England Cricket team all been honoured. Even Tom Jones is getting knighted for gods sake. It can't be said that Roger and John have been too scandalous in their lives either, considering who has had honours before. |

Roger and John? What did they contribute to the band after all? C´mon... don´t say "Another one Bites The Dust"... "I Want to Break Free" or "Radio Ga Ga"... "I Kind Of Magic"... Don´t get me wrong... Queen would have never been the band we came to know and to love... ....but anyway... one of them (John) was their bass player.. the other one (Rog) their drummer... no more, no less!!! ..they ALL deserved to get the Honoury more than 15 years ago... not just Dr. Brian May!!! |

Sorry... didn´t intend to confuse you! :-) But what did Brian do to stand above Fred? ...ok, he´s still alive and he´s not gay... but what else? It was always Freddie Mercury/Brian May (or vice versa) and then came John Deacon and Roger Taylor...;-) |

Please pardon my ignorance. I've started my New Years Eve Coors Light-athon a little early while waiting on my friends to show up. |

To me the four of them are honoured already. The fans they have all around the world prove they have communicated in a deep manner. What honour could be better?. I don't think a CBE can be more important, unless the Queen hnouring Queen is more relevant for their egos. I don't think Rog or John are jealous because of Brian getting honoured. They must be very happy for him.;) |
Munchsack 01.01.2006 11:31 |
To be fair, Brian has had a more successful solo career than the other two and many more people have heard of him. Besides, if they offered John a knighthood, I expect he would decline. |

I think that Roger should get nominated more than John, i love john but roger just i dont wanna say contibuted more to the band but ah i dont know...hmm i say Roger! hahaha can you honor a dead person? i think Freddie should be honored, even though hes kinda like...yeah =/ |

Ive got mixed feelings on this. The rest of the Rolling Stones and thier fans are probably a bit miffed at Jagger getting knighted and the others not being recognised. I dont think Brian should have recieved his award without the rest of the band, but I really cant see Roger and John being too fussed about getting one. Brian revels in the attention. It doesnt bother me in the slightest. I think the awards are a bit gay anyway. |

The honours seem to be mainly based on how famous you are, not how deserving / how much you've done for charity etc. It's basically just about recognising people who've made an impact on the public consiousness, which is why people like Gordon Ramsey and Jonothan Ross get them. The cricket team are the current flavour of the month (like the rugby team were for about 5 minutes) so they're getting honours. Brian and Freddie are the only members of Queen well known enough by the general public to get honours. If John or Roger's names were on the list people would just be like "Who??". It's just about making the monarchy look with it and in touch by having them give honours to the most famous and popular celebrities. So it's not a fair system.. But if the system were fairer and based purely on how deserving you are, there must be loads of non-rock stars who've done more for charity than any member of Queen. So what you gonna do? |
gnomo 02.01.2006 08:15 |
... I'm not British, but, AFAIK, such honours are generally awarded as a result of a specific nomination/evaluation procedure, that you can find explained in detail here: link and here: link Candidates must be nominated by the public first of all, so, if no-one nominates either Roger or John and collects enough letters of support, they will never get awarded any kind of official honour. Apparently, someone succeeded in nominating Brian (IIRC, a previous attempt failed some 8 years ago)... FWIW |
scprof 02.01.2006 13:08 |
Why don't we all make a nomination for both Roger and John then. |
sweetlady16 02.01.2006 13:33 |
yeah that's what we should do! good idea. |

OK, I think I should warn you - I'm about to have a bit of a rant....
BeckyLovesBrianMay+RogerTaylor wrote: EXACTLY JOHN SHOULD NOT GET HONOURED!!HE IS NOT EVEN IN QUEEN NOW.ROGER SHOULD YES.OK Becky, now you're talking complete and utter shit. I personally don't understand why Brian got the CBE - sure he's done quite a bit of charity work, but there are unknown people who have done a whole lot more and who get no recognition whatsoever. However, if he was going to get an award for 'services to music' or whatever they hand crap out for these days, then each of the four former members of queen should receive one (freddies being awarded posthumously obviously.) Why would Roger "Uncle Chunky the cradlesnatching clownboy" Taylor be recognised and not John, who worked just as hard to attain success for the band. As for your argument about John 'not being in queen anymore,' well neither are Grumpy or chunky, they just happen to be touring with Paul 'the rug' Rodgers singing queen songs. Queen as a band does not exist any more. I'm sorry if i've pissed people off with my little outburst, but it gets on my nerves when john's (considerable) contribution to Queen is brushed under the rug merely because he has chosen to retire from the limelight. |
