Hi Could anyone give me advice on this disc that is on ebay? link Is this a genuine PAL version (not one of the crappy PAL to NTSC back to PAL transfers)? I see that the seller offers this in both PAL and NTSC, however this concerns me. I do not want to touch anything NTSC with a barg pole unless that was the original format it was shot in. I have a couple of versions of this concert, one mpeg and the other NTSC video. I know the show was originally shot in PAL video and that is the only format I am interested in. My Mpeg copy like it was recorded in film. Any advice on the above disc would be much appreciated. |

From the little information given in the auction, and lack of screenshots provided, it's impossible to know. Good luck tracking down a good copy. They're out there. |

I notice the seller is also offering Hammersmith '75 and Rainbow '74, among many other bootlegs from other bands. There is no indiaction of quality on any of his item descriptions (apart from 'New'), and the items are not all that cheap. Personally, I would be reluctant to take a chance (because that's what it is), at 'official' DVD prices. My best advice would be to e-mail the seller and ask him what the quality is like. You don't want to end up with one of the copies with the green band at the bottom of the screen throughout! If you get it, and it's good, please let us know! :) |

I've just checked the sellers feedback for you & someone has written this about the dvd....................I would not advise anyone to buy from this seller dvd worst quality no refund....:-( |

I brought a PAL version of Hammy 75 from that very seller and its brilliant. |
YourValentine 28.12.2005 16:34 |
The seller does not say if it's a DVD-R or a pressed bootleg. In fact, he never indicates it's a bootleg at all. He cannot be that honest. Plus it's much too expensive. |

Just to add further caution, it would appear that this seller may have dual identities:- link By clicking his / her 'other items' link, a remarkably similar list is produced to the seller offering the Earls Court DVD. Again, no mention of picture / sound quality, and similar prices. |
pcgenius9 29.12.2005 17:46 |
Thing is though, if people bought items they were not happy with then they would leave negative feedback. The person must be doing something right! |
Lord Fickle 29.12.2005 19:18 |
Apparently, it's not that difficult to *cough* 'acquire' good feedback on eBay, although obviously I'm not casting aspersions on this seller. All we know is that the items being offered are bootlegs, and anyone who purchases such an item is taking a chance, especially as there is no indication given in the item description, as to sound / picture quality. For all we know, they could be excellent quality, or maybe the people who have left feedback, are easily pleased, or simply don't know any better?
Here's one example of the seller's feedback from the Hyde Park DVD. The buyer did not express himself very well, but would you buy from a seller who gives this response?:-
got dvd but not over the moon very good copies + would not have bought Reply by babylon348: whats the problem with it ? its excellent ! are you stupid ? contact me first |

You will notice also about that second Earl's Court auction that the format has now changed from PAL to NTSC. Stuff like that concerns me. I really want to avoid NTSC like the plague. Thanks everyone for the advice. |

"Good deal! (nevertheless a few disappointed about quality)" That's from one of the feedbackers on the Earl's Court DVD. The Queenzone download is probably superior. I am going to give Earl's Court a miss for a while. Stung too many times. Anyone recommend the best Houston DVD on ebay? |
pcgenius9 30.12.2005 06:06 |
I'm wondering though, Earls Court is in London, so chances are it was recorded in PAL anyway. |

pcgenius9 wrote: I'm wondering though, Earls Court is in London, so chances are it was recorded in PAL anyway.I don't think it matters what it was recorded in. The official DVDs which are available from the States are NTSC, and they were recorded in the UK (Wembley, Milton Keynes, etc...) |
pcgenius9 30.12.2005 06:49 |
Lol. I think theres a difference between converting a video on your PC and converting it in a professional studio. |
Indo77 30.12.2005 06:55 |
"I'm wondering though, Earls Court is in London, so chances are it was recorded in PAL anyway." Earl's Court was def recorded in PAL but as Lord Fickle states that's not really the issue. Trancer for example sells this DVD on ebay, however his version is an NTSC formatted disc. Earlier video copies were transferred from a forth generation PAL tape and then subsequently transferred to NTSC. There are dozens of these discs now on the net so it's extremely difficult to know what you are trading/buying. I obviously am not looking a first generation PAL disc but am looking for a decent quality generation copy that has never been transferred to NTSC. |
pcgenius9 30.12.2005 06:58 |
I just think that the "home-made" discs like the ones on ebay are likely to be in worse quality because the PC cannot convert PAL/NTSC as good as a professional can. |
Indo77 30.12.2005 09:12 |
I thought this was pretty good for a fiver link Quality is probably crap but for a fiver you could spend that down the pub on one drink. Pretty reasonable since I don't have Houston anyway. |
Lord Fickle 30.12.2005 11:27 |
Unlike the other listings mentioned here, that does seem fairly priced, and at least the seller is honest about the quality. |

I just bought Earls Court 77 on Dvd on ebay. The NTSC version. Now I wasnt expecting this to be perfect anyhow considering the fact that I had already had this on mpeg-cd rom format. But I now wish i would have never purchased it other than the fact that I can now watch it without having to go to the computer. This particular version I bought totally sucks. Its missing one song, and the video quality fucking sucks. I have the missing song on my cd-rom mpeg that i had once downloaded. I noticed at the end to there were some credits and just below some japanese writing of some sort. I wish they would find some kinda way to either repair the audio and release this shit or just release it anyhow because the video quality they have of it is absolutly superb. Just watching bits and pieces of ANATO 30th anniversery dvd shows what kinda quality they have of most of the 70s shows including hyde park. Its foolish, to think that they were saying they cant do much with much of that material but im begining to think who ever made that comment is talking from his ass. If they wanted to release this concert and many others they would have done so by now fix or not because there is a market out there for it. Otherwise these copies with missing songs would not exist. |

I decided to go ahead and get that disc of Earl's Court and Houston 77' for a fiver. Decided to take a chance with the hammersmith concerts as well. My hope is that the seller downloaded the 4 part mpeg svcd of earl's court from here because I know it was in PAL and the video quality was pretty good. OrgeBattle that DVD version you have sounds like the terrible NTSC video version I got a few years ago. The quality totally sucks and the colour keeps changing repeatedly. I also downloaded a 2 part mpeg of the concert from here and the quality was vastly superior although it had a strange film look about it. |
Indo77 05.01.2006 12:12 |
Just to update I got the DVDs from the UK guy who was selling them for fiver (2 set each). I won't be able to watch them until Sunday but from his ebay feedback the quality of the DVDs is suppose to be pretty good (good reports on Houston). One guy said he should have been charging a lot more but he obviously isn't greedy. This guy sounds like a real fan! |

Oh well thats good. Keep us updated! |
