lipsynch or use a backup tape? On the GH2 DVD disc 2, in the "Montreaux Rock Festival", it sounds almost exact to a studio recording. It could have been edited but you tell me. |

Apparently at the Montreux POP festival you had to lip synch. As you can clearly see, Freddie used this to his best advantage... |

Yep, Queen wanted to perform live, but the organisers wouldn't let them. Not quite sure why, but those were the rules. So i think Fred went out of his way to make sure that they couldn't be accused of trying to pretend they were live. it's interesting footage, but you really miss the fact that it's not live. To see them perform in such a small venue at that point would have been great It's like when they did the small concerts for the fans at video shoots (like for Champions or Friends Will Be Friends) - wouldn't it be great if there was video footage of that? Queen in the latter years, but live in front of a small audience. Better to have been there, but would be great for a box set (hint hint...) |
Lester Burnham 29.11.2005 13:50 |
I wasn't aware that Queen performed a concert for the fans at the shooting of 'Friends Will Be Friends'. |

I think Roger sang Radio Ga Ga with back up tape (at least, the percussion part) in the first part of the song, in the last QPR show in Los Angeles. If true, very disappointing. |

If true, very disappointing. On the current tour, they use backing tapes for the drum parts on the first part of Radio Ga Ga and on These Are The Days. Can't complain about it - RGG really needs a front-man singing it, rather than from behind the kit; These Are the Days doesn't really suffer from it either. It's not like they're miming it - it's very obvious that it's playback. And yes, the Montreux footage is hilarious with Freddie's supposed "miming"! David |
That guy who digs energy domes 29.11.2005 16:05 |
Yeah, now I know I'm not crazy. Did they do that at the bowl or Wembley or anywhere else? |
Penetration_Guru 29.11.2005 16:35 |
2x Montreux, San Remo, all TV appearances. No miming at any TRUE concert, ever. |
DreaminQueen 29.11.2005 18:25 |
Yea i noticed that they were "miming" at the Montreaux festival too, cuz on many parts Fred isnt even singing into the microphone at all, and yet theres a sound coming out, and it sounds j/ like from their records, because they never replicated their sound live, because they felt then the point of live performance was indeed pointless because ppl could j/ stay home and listen to the records. Maybe Freds vocal cord nodules were acting up that day?? Or like someone already said, they Had too... Which is a dumb rule if u ask me, i think Ghandi's saying of "Stupid rules are meant to be broken" should have applied there, but whaddya gonna do? But it would have been a treat tho in that small venue to have them playing live. |
brENsKi 29.11.2005 18:32 |
all songs deffo mimed at Montreux, but his mic is on in between songs....you can hear him |

It seemed like Freddie was miming "Impromptu" at the Wembley. It just seems awkward if you watch it. |

If you listen to the audio commentary on that ( well it might of been that or it might have been something else i saw) Brian says that they were lip syncing. they werent allowed to do it live and they were making it obvious on purpose. you can tell if you look properly because half of the time freddie isnt even pretending to sing into the microphone. and roger is just pretty much sitting there. |

I would thing, how pathetic. However, what says it all, is that instead of losing respect for a band, thinking, "What whores! Can't they do it live?". With Queen, it's more like, "What the fuck??? What a bummer, I was hoping it was a new performance." Is it dissapointment that they can't pull off a live show?? No, it's actually a "What the hell are they doing?? What a waste of an opportunity." Why the waste? Because, when Queen goes live, it'e an alternate piece of art, comparable to the original. Why they did it? The only thing I know is that it had nothing to do with their ability to perform live. |

I have live at wembly and the bowl too but when I watched the bonus disc on GH2, It sounded too close to the studio. If you read the origional post, I said it may have been edited. I then went to the most reliable source I could find, being QZ |

It states it clearly in the book that came with the DvD; '1984 and 1986 Montreux Golden Pop Festival, at which the band perfomed songs from the Works and Magic albums.Queen loathed miming and avoided doing so when ever possible. So here we see freddie obviously not taking his vocal cues seriously, or even attempting to be near the microphone at times, but having a laugh with the live audience instead!' Hope that clears it all up for you lot!! |
