Make sure you will not be disturbed. Sit with both parents. Do not tell one without the other. Be straight, (Excuse the pun) and be confident. Assure them that this is not a phase, or a mental illness. Be open, be honest and just be yourself. Your parents really do love you. Do not argue, nor raise you voice. All sounds good - I know, but just be true to yourself. It is that EASY. Now off you go and do it! |

There's 3 ways to tell them. Pick which ever you find more appropiate? - You won't ever have to worry about me getting a girl pregnant. - As long as we have an extreme conservative president you won't have to spend thousands of dollars on my wedding. - I am gay, but I have very good news. I just saved a whole bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to GEICO. |

I have no suggestions as I havent and probably never will come out to my mother but best of luck to you. |

Zoroaster 02.11.2005 22:25 |
I need to know more about your specific situation. For example, socio-economic status, religion, and past experiences all play into the reaction you will receive. Also, do your parents know a lot of other gay people? What are their reactions to other gay people? Give a little more info and I'll tell you the best way to go about it. |

To most, this is indeed the hardest thing to do EVER. To realy help you you do need to give some more info about your parents and your background. But in general parents' reactions are not half as bad as one thinks on forehand. And yes, I do realise that we are a bit different and privileged in the Netherlands. But what John S says, is true: your parents DO love you - unconditionally. But you have to tell them SOMEtime; keeping this all to yourself is eventually just as bad for your well-feeling. But don't tell untill you truly feel that you are up to it. In general I'd suggest to start with your mom only - talk to her and then take her out for a cup of coffee (REALY!! - take her out after you told her!) Good luck! |
Flashman 03.11.2005 05:23 |

If you are who I think you are (I'm old - I can't remember crap half the time) - but didn't we meet at the concert in NJ...& I had a comment about your shoes... If you are this person - bud - your mom's VERY PROUD of you - she likes the fact that you aren't afraid to express yourself. I really don't think you're gonna have to worry about anything. Always just be yourself - don't feel that you have to be or act a certain way just to appease others. And don't feel that you have to live up to other peoples' expectations, either. Don't act a certain way or don't hold yourself back from doing something because it may seem out of the ordinary. Don't be afraid to look outside of the box or push the envelope. Life doesn't come with a book of instructions - you write it as you go along. Make the best of yours. Hmmm, who said, "ya just gotta strong and believe in yourself..." sound familiar? :o) XoXo- Miss Bea FHg@queenzone.com |

*3* Forever88 wrote: I've known a little over a year. me and my hedonistic ways! I realised in 6th grade when I kept grabbing my friends asses. That's the good thing about being gay. You can slap the ass of a person you find attractive as long as they're your friends. For us straight guys, if you slap the ass of a female friend you're most likely to receive a slap in the face or in the worst cases a lawsuit for sexual harassment. |
KillerQueen840 03.11.2005 15:00 |
I'm sure you're parents will be understanding. Even though I am not gay, my dad always reminds us (my bro and I) that he would still love us no matter what, even if we were gay. Not that he thinks we're gay, he just mentions it often when we see movies and stuff. So, don't worry. :-) |

Rockyuk 03.11.2005 15:33 |
Come home drunk (but pretend to be mor edrunk than you actually are), tell them. If they take it badly, when you have sobered up the next morning pretend you forgot about telling them, act suprised when they mention it, blame it on the drink and assure them you are not gay. |

oh, im so proud that youre brave enough to even think of telling your parents! one of my best friend's is gay and he has a really tough time with his parents. im not sure if he actually told them, though, rather that they just found out somehow. but anyway, i wish you the best of luck with it and please do tell us the results! even if you have to struggle towards your computer, meaning if they take away your computer privileges because they would act exactly like my parents would if i was a lesbian and they found out. sadistic and wrong, but hey, it could happen. but good luck, hon. Fred's spirit will be with you! |
