I love the A Kind Of Magic album, up in my top three. So what is your favorite song from that album? For me it's a tough choice between Pain Is So Close To Pleasure and A Kind Of Magic. I so wish the album contained the original version of A Kind Of Magic!! I'd probably go with A Kind Of Magic! |

A Kind Of Magic. One Vision isn't bad either, and Princes of the Universe is nice. I shouldn't forget to mention Who Wants to Live Forever and Gimme the Prize as decent songs. The rest is utter crap. |
Fenderek 12.10.2005 07:31 |
WWTLF- this songs saves the album. OK- POTU is pretty cool as well... Gimme The Prize is... it's like trying too hard IMO. One Vision could use less syths. The rest is mediocre, FWBF is just awful, same goes for Pain/Pleasure... Together with WORKS and FLASH the worst album they recorded... In my opinion, of course I agree- original AKOM was soo much better! |

1. Who wants to live forever 2. Princes of the universe 3. Pain is so close to pleasure 4. One year of love 5. One vision 6. Don't lose your head 7. Gimme the prize 8. A kind of magic 9. Friends will be friends I really like 1-2 I think 3-6 are OK I don't really like 7-8 I can't stand 9 ad 1: I really hate the video ending of this song (fade out), but I like 'Forever (piano version)' a lot. ad 2: There should have been an extended version of this one, really! ad 3: I like the single and extended version more than the album version. ad 4: I especially can appreciate the extended version which has become available since a few years. ad 5: Don't really see the need of all the percussion extra's in 'Blurred vision', the song long enough by itself, it's too much overkill. ad 6: Why the hell did they do a 'sort of remix' and called it 'A dozen red roses for my darling', it's really not my cup of tea most of the times! ad 7: There is too much of this song on 'The Eye' CD's! ad 8: I think I prefer the original version above the album/single version, and I must say that the extended guitar solo at the end of the extended version sounds better than on the album/single version. ad 9: Extended version.... pffff, some more 2 minutes of this crap. |

On the end credits of Highlander. I prefer it too, got a less poncy-pop feel to it, and comes across much more serious, which I like. But my favourite track on AKOM is probably Don't Lose Your Head, especially the ending with the guitar solo - I f*cking love that solo. The overall problem with most of the hard rock songs on this album is they're all too clean cut. I think it was Fenderek who said its like they're trying "too hard". Gimme The Prize is wicked, but it's just a bit too... I dunno. Perhpas a little airy fairy? Not their best album by any stretch of the imagination. Perhaps if it was a little more raw it might have been better. Much like Hot Space, but thats another story... |

I was looking at a review of 'A Kind Of Magic' album and the person is a nut-case and shouldn't be giving reviews if they don't listen to the songs. link "Princess Of The Universe" |

I really like Pain is so close to pleasure and Dont lose your head. PISCTP has a good message to it while DLYH is a nice Rock song, both of which deserve to be on the greatest hits. |

A couple of good tracks, half a soundtrack - half not, not a coherent or rocky as the early stuff, they werent as popular in America anymore yet were still very big in Europe... whats wrong with that?Messenger Of Leah wrote: I was looking at a review of 'A Kind Of Magic' album and the person is a nut-case and shouldn't be giving reviews if they don't listen to the songs. link "Princess Of The Universe"Err, maybe I'm blind, or just plain dumb (always a possibility), but what's wrong with that review? |

Freddie and John hated Gimme The Prize... |
Shane Jazz 12.10.2005 13:49 |
My fave from the album is probably the incomparable WWTLF. But I love the thick riffs of One Vision, Princes of the Universe and Gimme the Prize. But I must add that One Year of Love is a top tune, IMO. I wish they would strip the production of it down a notch, and maybe lose the sax solo. If it was just performed with say, Freddie at piano and John on bass, it could be a nice little sad, "sitting in an empty bar drinking away my blues" kind of song, if that makes any sense. |
August R. 12.10.2005 14:09 |
WWTLF is one of the greatest songs ever, IMO. Easily the best song on this album. One Vision is a good song and it definately gained some when played live on Magic tour. you knowm, more guitars and less synths. It rocked! What a great opener for the show. POTU and GTP are both quite good heavy rockers as well. I'd love to hear the full piano version One Year of Love though. The few seconds heard during the film give us a clue what to expect when the vaults are finally opened. |

imo its a great album, a kind of magic (original is cool) who wants to live forever, classic one year of love one vision, dont loose your head. |

you really like a kind of magic? im sorry, but it was truly an awful effort IMO anyway, my favorite has to be princes of the universe, but if i ranked all 9 of them, it would probably look like this: 1. Princes Of The Universe 2. One Vision 3. Who Wants To Live Forever 4. Friends Will Be Friends 5. Gimme The Prize (Kurgan's Theme) 6. A Kind Of Magic 7. Pain Is So Close To Pleasure 8. One Year Of Love 9. Don't Lose Your Head |

One Vision... Hands down AKOM Who Wants To Live Forever |
MercuryArts 12.10.2005 19:08 |
WWTLF after that most is subpar, but Pain, Friends, & One Year are beneath even that. Yes it was a chart success, but it doesn't mean its a quality album. Definately their worst. |

Who Wants To Live Forever is the most noteworthy song. The others are just a bunch of rockers: One Vision, Princes Of The Universe, Gimme The Prize anthems: Friends Will Be Friends, album fillers: Pain Is So Close To Pleasure, One Year Of Love (maybe misjudged, but I preffer "A Winter's Tale"), or weird ones: Don't Lose Your Head or A Kind Of Magic. But they sound good if be performed live. I just don't like past - The Game albums in their entirety. No flame intended. (de gustibus et coloribus...) |
