I don't mind Brian's interest on astronomy, which I think it's really cool. However, I really think he should create an astronomy section on his site and devote most of the 'Soapbox' to topics related Queen and Brian's musical career.
My English is far away from good, therefore I don't understand most of those specific astronomy words - it's more easy for me to skip such topics... :)
I kinda like them... His soapbox is pretty much like a blog- one day he writes about Queen, the other about astronomy, than about politics or some tabloids etc... That's the way it is, I guess... Some of his posts bore me to death. The astronomy ones actually don't...
Haven't yet read it, but I've had an ongoing (amateur) interest in astronomy, so when I do get to read his thoughts and musings, it's pretty interesting.
Besides, it's Brian's Soapbox, subtitled "Where I write stuff."
i get bored abit with it because its not my kind of thing to talk about everyday i dont mind it a few times but to go on and on no lol but hey if brian like it which he does then let him its his website no one can tell him what to write...
flick of the wrist and your dead baby blow him a kiss and your maddddd
well my hobbie is cars so i talk about them most of the time, Brians hobbie is astronomy and he like to talk about it.
Mr.Jingles79 what’s you hobbie ? And do you talk about it much?
It's his website, he can post what he wants.
I, for one, love the fact that he is multi-dimensional. And it's always great to get his philosophical insights.

Exactly - if you don't like it then don't read it or don't visit the site. It's entirely your choice.
I won't complain about what Brian puts on his own website in the same way he hasn't complained about what I put on my website.
Bored? It's not the perfect word, because sometimes I read it and I find it really interesting. But if I didn't know, it would be obviuous that he is an only child. He thinks that his interests are important for all.

Thats a bit of a sweeping statement about one child families isnt it? I personally know plenty of people in that situation and I know that the child concerned doesnt think that their "interests are important to all"
As to the original question, no I dont think his stuff on astronomy is boring. It is, as someone already pointed out it is his "Soapbox, Where I Write Stuff"

Absolutely.
Whoever you are, am I ever happy to see you posting here. You're one of those few people who are slowly making QZ into more of an intellectual place again. Glad to have you here.
I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm trying to force my terribly-important-to-all opinions on everyone else, although I'm an only child, but here's my 2 cents.
He's got every right to post about what he feels relevant at the time. At the moment, with the comet stuff, it's astronomy. I remember not too long ago people were getting annoyed that he kept bitching about the tabloid press and going on too much about the musical - seems he can't win.
I'm not going to pretend I understand what he's been posting lately, but it is his soapbox, and he should be able to rant and rave about whatever he likes because it's his outlet. And plus, like dragonzflame said, someone's going to be bothered with whatever he posts...I do like reading everything he says about astronomy, though - it kind of introduces us to a side of Brian that we wouldn't get to see if he restricted himself to writing just about the tour or the musical.
I have to say, though, his obession with the orbs was more entertaining. :)
Mr.Jingles79 wrote: I guess Brian goes through stages...
First was the musical, then it was the press, then orbs, and now the comet.
Right, but I think most of us go through stages of some kind. Well, those of us who experience some kind of personal growth, anyway!
We need to remember astronomy is Brian's #1 field of interest and expertise. If it weren't for him, my interest in the field would barely a fraction of what it is now. What I especially like about him is that he often gives a point of view that is different from the popular one, as in the case of the recent comet situation. He has opened my world in many ways.
I for one I'm not bored. When I don't wanna read about astronomy, I just skip the articles. But I think they're interesting and pretty cool. He IS multidimensional, as he also posts articles about depression, which is kinda great. His posts on the Iraki war back in 2003 were magnificent as well...
And I simply love his post on the "war on terrorrsim issue". We think pretty much in the same way... oh you know great minds think alike :)
I dont pretend to understand the first thing about
astronomy, and like many others I sometimes skip those bits. However, I do enjoy Brians thoughts,
regarding the press, etc.
I find him a very interesting person, aside from the music side, he has such a deep character and is passionate about a lot of things, from Astronomy and Aids, to terrorism, world peace, Africa, etc etc, all sorts of things, and, my impression is ( I could be wrong but this is how I see it) that if you are as busy, all the time, as Brian indeed is, you wont get much chance to discuss the things that are of great importance to you personally. Through his website, he is obviously aware that there are loads of people watching and listening to what he says, and I think it could be his own release button, his way of airing his thoughts on matters which mean so much to him.
Its just a thought, but I think its possibly an opportunity for Brian to have some therapy during
his quiet times!
Anyway, I know one thing, if I couldnt log on and read Brians thoughts most days of the week I would
have withdrawal symptoms!
