i totally freaked...i could hear the piano and i started thinking.."man, isnt that Queen?" and when he started im screaming "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!" it ROCKED
I saw it, they were ok, nothing compared to Queen obviously, if you looked close enough, you could see that one of the guitarists was using a "Red Special" copy.
We had it all on one channel, so i couldn't change it when mariah carrey came on (sigh) and i did see green day and robbie do queen songs. funny how they both were croud favourites eh?

True - but it wasn't Freddie singing and they weren't trying to be Freddie so they won't sing like him
The other choice is no one hears the songs ever again - then Freddie's spirit will die if no one sings his songs
I went to a Green Day show last November, when they came to Montreal, and they did play We are the champions. I freaked out when I heard them play the intro... but I thought it was great they decided to play a Queen song for this tour. Out of all the great rock songs of the history, they choose to cover a Queen song...I love that.

I've seen them live too (last May) and it was of course, included in the set.
Really cool. :^)
I personally thought that their rendition was pure shit. The piano (key board) was horrible and the whole song was song off key. It enraged me to see Queen's masterpiece torn to pieces.

come on....u expect them to sing like freddie or play in Queen's quality?
The only person that I think could be in freddie's lever was george Micheal in the tribute concert.
The great thing bout this concert was that even thou Queen wasnt there and freddie is not among us, but Queen's and freddie's spirit was everywhere. You could see performers were killing themselves and imitating Freddie to be just little better than eachother.
From Robbie to Green Day.
Absolutely cool that they played it....and with a Red Special too! Cool band playing one of the greatest songs of all time! It's great that they are bringing this song to millions of new fans too......kudos to them....it was my highlight of the whole show.......and I'm glad that since Queen weren't there, there were tributes to them ......still think Queen + Paul Rodgers would have stolen the show if they were there because their catalogue of great songs is just too strong.

If it was a Dillion Red Special copy maybe it was Johnny Knoxville. Did he know how to play it

yeah, i saw that...went totally nuts! i have to say, if you told me Green Day did WATC i would have been like "What the fuck...I bet they murdered that!" But they were actually pretty good!
Green Day sucks those poseur fucking punks. Their own songs suck. They are American Idiots and they ruined We Are the Champions. Hell, even Liza Minelli did it better with Queen at The Concert for Life in 1992 IMHO. Also, Paul Rodgers does the song justice IMHO!
I really liked their performance, and I loved that Billie Joe added the Day-oh at the end in honor of Freddie. It's always nice to hear popular artists with great music taste!
