now that i have heard material from every album, i think ill make a list of the best studio albums ive seen a lot of questions about which album to get, so get them in this order: 1. Jazz 2. Made In Heaven 3. Innuendo 4. Queen II 5. Queen 6. A Night At The Opera 7. The Game 8. Sheer Heart Attack 9. News Of The World 10. A Day At The Races 11. The Works 12. The Miracle 13. Hot Space 14. A Kind Of Magic 15. Flash Gordon Soundtrack IMO this is the best order just get the highest one that you do not already own |

I'd take another listen to those albums and revise your list. Anyone who puts Hot Space ahead of Sheer Heart Attack must have the hearing of Beethoven. |

Anyone not owning all queen records beware: Buy MIH only when you own all the other ones. That so many fans think that it is great, is one of the great mysteries in Queen's career. But anyway, my list would be: 1) = best / 15) = weakest! 1)A Day At The Races 2)A Night At The Opera 3)Innuendo 4)The Works 5)News Of The World 6)Queen II 7)A Kind Of Magic 8)Sheer Heart Attack 9)Jazz 10)Queen 11)The Game 12)Hot Space 13)Flash Gordon 14)The Miracle 15)Made In Heaven |

Insulting ppl just beacause they like A Day at the Races better than A Night at the Opera makes no sense, everybody has their own taste..As for me 1. Queen 2 2.A Night at the Opera 3.Innuendo 4.Sheer heart attack 5.The Miracle 6.The Works 7.Queen 8. Jazz 9.A day at the Races... All these albums are rated excellent in my humble opinion... A kind of Magic, News of the World and The Game are still very good but not quite uo to the uper ones...Hot Space, well i give Queen lots of credit for having the balls to try something different and the album does show that we are dealing with real musicians but it's just not my taste...Flash Gordon can't be rated as an regular album..As far as Made in Heaven is concerened i always keep it out of those lists because of the special circumstances when it was recorded and it misses some of the harder queen stuff but i love the album because it's simply beautiful... |

1 A Night at the Opera 2 Queen II 3 News of the World (somewhat underrated IMO) 4 Innuendo 5 A Day at the Races 6 Sheer Heart Attack 7 The Game 8 Queen 9 The Miracle 10 The Works 11 Jazz (so overrated around here, 2nd half is crap) 12 A Kind of Magic 13 Hot Space (never really listened to it, but "disco-flavored" was all I needed to hear) ....and I didn't bother listening to the Flash Gordon thing and I don't have a copy of Made in Heaven |

sglll, there is no help for you - why you mention "drowse" when speaking of ADATR is just showing how ignorant you are, its a filler song (but a good one), but so are "Good Company" or "I'm In Love With My Car" - so listen to the real gems on ADATR: Somebody To Love (nearly as good as BoRap), The Millionaire Waltz (Freddie outdoes himself), Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, Teo Torriate (the best Brian May ballad), You Take My Breath Away (out of this world-vocal delivery by Fred) and the decent rocker Tie Your Mother Down. There have never been songs like this before or since. When you say these songs are shit, you really show that you aren't a Queen fan, but just an idiot. Buy some Eminem-CDs then. BoRap is surely the greatest Queen song ever, but that doesn't make ANATO their best album, everyone has his/her own taste. Many Queen fans put Queen II on top of the list, some think of News Of the World as their finest hour. Even "Innuendo" would be a serious guess for best Queen album. |

Agree with Peter on Made In Heaven after all the other Queen albums (or all but Hot Space and Flash) as it's really only half an album and some re-worked b-sides and freddie solo tracks Disagree with ANATR over ANATO. ANATO is IMO a way better listen start to finish...it really creates atmosphere..think the beginning of Death on Two Legs....and In Love With My Car is by no means filler......ANATR is good but loses it in some places....Tie Your Mother Down and White Man are two of the heaviest and best rocking songs they have ever done though....Good Old Fashioned Loverboy is really weak IMO to Seaside Rendezvous and Leroy Brown My List may be (I think it changes dayly) Innuendo A Night At The Opera The Miracle The Works Jazz Live Killers Sheer Heart Attack News Of The World The Game Queen 1 A Kind Of Magic A Day At The Races Made In Heaven Hot Space Flash Gordon |

I am genuinely surprsied so many fans rate Made in Heaven so low. I love it and (feeling of deja vue) would easily listen to this before The Works, A Kind of Magic, Hot Space and maybe even The Game and perhaps The Miracle. Don't get me wrong I like all the albums for certain songs. Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, ANATO, ADATR, Queen, Innuendo and News of the World are all better albums and a real step up from the rest but I do think Made in Heaven has an awful lot going for it. I love the Queen version of I was Born to Love You, so much heavier and rockier. Brian's guitar solo on Made in Heaven is haunting, sends a shiver down my spine when I hear it. A Winters Tale and Mother Love are so sad and poignant (think the spelling is nearly right) Let Me Live is a decent enough song. My Life has been Saved just a filler but it wouldn't be the first Queen album to have an average filler on it. You Don't Fool Me is a great song IMO, Queen trying to do something a little different again and Brian's guitar solo is another highlight. A Beautiful Day (both versions are so-so) and Yeah is annoying. My brother once put it on repeat on my CD player when I was hung over so I woke up to Freddie going Yeah.Yeah.Yeah...Yeah. couldn't work out where it was coming from. Anyway, I digress......We each have our own preferences I know but as I said, I am surprised so many people rate this album so poorly. I am off to go a listen to Mother Love at full volume, try it, if you don't get a tingle when Freddie booms out 'I don't want pity, just a safe place to hide' you have a heart of stone.... |

The first four records are a hungry band developing their sound. Queen II is the first brilliantly crafted record with many of the Queen trademarks, but on Sheer Heart Attack they added pop sensibility to make their sound accessible. And they perfected the formula on A Night At The Opera. Everything that would encompass the Queen sound is there, particularly on side B. A Day At The Races and News Of The World show the band at their happiest, having dealt with their business issues. They stripped down their sound on the latter so that they wouldn't be seen as a polar opposite to the punk scene. And they had finally begun to play the arenas in America. The sad truth is .. most Queen albums after this have filler. They became a singles band even by the late 70s, so the great albums ceased to be. Jazz had its great moments, but you can hear a frustrated band, as they were tax exiles by then. The Game is the pop album that would make them superstars in the US, but they had squandered much of their rock fanbase there. The next three records would have many great hits, but plenty of filler. They were no longer innovating - they were just keeping up. While they still enjoyed great success in much of the world, one could argue Live Aid saved the band from destruction. They began to get back on track with The Miracle. It was still a pop record, but most of the songs were strong. Innuendo is the closest they came to recapturing the magic of ANATO, but by then it was too late. And considering what scraps the boys had to work with, Made In Heaven is a great final record. So without a doubt, to me the best Queen records are Sheer Heart Attack and A Night At The Opera. Everything else is in second place. |

The Game is a great album and I would have had no problems with their 80s output if they had followed a similar path as Dragon Attack, Rock It (one of Roger's better efforts and really under-rated), Sail Away, Play the Game etc. As far as rock-pop albums go, The Game is almost perfect. Even Don't Try Sucide, which a lot of fans appear to hate, has an energy unmatched in many later recordings. An eclectic bunch of songs which nevertheless seems to fit together really well as an album. And I don't care what anyone says, Save Me kicks ass, and anyone who claims otherwise should be battered in the face with a dead hedgehog. :) |

True it doesn't match up to the classics, ANATO, ADATR etc, but imagine if a band came out with an album on par with the Game but reached nothing higher... that album is still pretty amazing! Play The Game is simply a beautiful song, Freddie at his finest in terms of songwriting. Dragon Attack and AOBTD really show off the rhythm section without straying too far from rock roots IMO - Dragon Attack has some of Brian's heaviest sounding solos. Need Your Loving Tonight is a joy. CLTCL is a great song too, nice new flavour with the acoustic guitars, doesn't stay around too long either. Rock It is pure rock, with the added synth flavour with does the song great credit, soaring Roger vocal too. Admittedly Don't Try Suicide is filler, but it does add another dimension to the album, a bit of light bluesy relief. Sail Away Sweet Sister is a gorgeous song, perfectly balanced lyrically, musically. Who doesn't love Freddie's middle 8? One of Brian's unsung beauties. Coming Soon... call it filler, who cares? More straight up rock music, that's for sure. It bridges a gap nicely too. Finally Save Me rounds the album off perfectly. As a last point the album sounds, even today amazing! It's beautifully recorded and produced. My point is, it lacks the 'classic' status of the early greats, but The Game is spectacular in it's own right. Who's with me? |

As along as we're trading opinions on best and worst albums around here (because it's turned into a best vs. worst discussion), I'll put forward an opinion of mine which has already got me grilled and caused a lot of backlash: The Game, as an album, is mostly horrible and the worst Queen album ever recorded, with three great hits, one good song, an OK song, and five filler tracks. Oddly enough, the 'good song' mentioned is Don't Try Suicide, which Queenzoners typically seem to degrade, while most QZ'ers hold The Game in high regard. Go figure. |

Once when I was 27 I tripped down some stairs and dropped my infant son's carrier in the tumble onto a cement path far below. He landed upside down, head to cement, and while in that position appeared to be attempting to right himself by frantically raising his tiny eyebrows and turning beet red. And do you know what? Even he knows The Game is by far not Queen's worst album. :P |

TCR is clearly the "worst" although it's a whole lot better than a typical MOR album i'd rate the "worst" as the one that gets the fewest plays in my collection..... so that honor goes to THE WORKS. i spin it if i wanna hear an unedited version of It's a Hard LIfe... or for "MACHINES" and "Keep Passing the Open Windows" |
