I was just wondering whether Queen Fans prefer on the whole the more Blues/Rock Type songs such as: Sheer Heart Attack or a more Music Hall feel like: Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy.
My personal feelings lean to the Music Hall Camp simply because I love what Queen do with classical harmonies as apposed to what could otherwise be hundreds of twelve bar blues songs.
Having said that I love My Melancholy Blues which again is just blues/jazz. Maybe it's Freddie's gorgeous voice though!
What are your opinions?
i prefer the vaudeville/musichall songs
goflb, seaside rendezvous, lazing, millionaire,
even the straight blues" of melancholy sounds abit Noel Coward in places

not any more, they can't
i think you'll find them heading down a very "unvaudeville/non-musichall" alleyway from now on
at roads head toward hard rock and blues from now on
i think i'm mostly in the blues/rock camp but the 'vaudeville' stuff has more (?) interesting solos overall, imho IWTBF fits into the v category while HTF would play more to the blues/rock
For me... I like both... and they do both well ... however, the campy piano driven tunes (Killer Queen, Don't Stop Me now, Good Old Fashion Lover Boy..etc) to me.... is what makes Queen... well...Queen!
I don't want to turn this thread into a
"Is the new tour really Queen" discussion.
I am looking forward to seeing Queen + PR... I am also a fan of the blues, and Paul Rodgers may be the best white blues oriented rock singer there is.
But on the other hand, the key factor in making Queen stand out in the crowd (Freddie) is gone....
Without Freddie, Queen may very well have been just another heavy-prog rock band of the 1970's (boring)
Freddie got in there, and "gayed" it up.... it made the perfect band in my eyes.
Yeah I know what you mean about the all blues/rock road they might be going down. Went to see them couple of weeks or so so back and PR voice is so suited to blues I'm wandering will they even attempt the slightly camper songs. Hope so not sure what i thought of having freddie on the screen behind them during Bo Rhap. Wander how PR would have sung it. Oh well going slightly of the point.
Keep those opinions coming in!
I think a few songs fall in between these categories such as 'you and I'- class song! I'd say the band got a perfect blend between heavy and classical harmony stuff. What more do we need!?
