I can't imagine Bri doing it, it's too funky for him :p So it had to be Rog or Paul. I'm gonna guess Rog. |

well .. because it was early in the setlist (the news was posted at a quarter before 10 .. so I guess they played it at half past eight ... the concert started at 8 o'clock I guess?) I think Paul did it at the end of his first set |

I listened to AOBTD in the Munich soundcheck. It sounded great!!!! So I would not be surprised at all if it has been played at Birmingham. |

@wjansen77: "Woooow Another one bites the dust... Steven walks warily down the street, with his brim pulled way down low. I'm looking forard to hear it some day Who did the vocals?" Come on wjansen77... you are fooling us, dont you? 1. Ok, this song was released on "The Game"... get yourself the CD (official release) and you can hear it as soon and as often as you like... 2. Who did the vocals? Well, they had a studio musician called Freddie Mercury who did the vocals for them at that time. No big deal... he just did his job and got paid for it.... BTW, who is the above mentioned Steven? |
Jon 06.05.2005 18:49 |
They played Dust and Pressure tonight. No Show Must Go On, apart from that same as ever I think. They seemed to be having a lot of fun. It was certainly wasnt without mistakes - but none serious. I thought Brian's singing was much better than his solo tours. Roger's voice also good in all his bits. Under Pressure was probably my favourite tonight - worked well. Jon. |
Khizzy 06.05.2005 18:57 |
They did play AOBTD! and there were a few mistakes in songs - especially I Want It All.... and a few others |

The above is precisely how it was. AOBTD was a great treat as was Pressure. Both played well especially the latter with BM taking the high vocal part. Brian was a bit off form with his solo tonight I thought. This was the only factor not superior to Brixton. Within his harmoniser piece he played it an octave lower and the whole sound bottomed out a bit apposed to the sound check which he played normally which sounded great. Odd that ?? Brixton will always have a place in my heart and I so want it to be the best date on the tour due to the exclusitivity but I am afraid that B'ham just blew it away. What was touching was Brians obvious emotion after LOML. He was genuinely choked by the response from the crowd to the degree that he couldn't introduce the next track clearly. Bless him. He's a good guy !! I have shed loads of superb close pics of tonight and will set them up soon within our website for all to see. |
pcgenius9 07.05.2005 02:18 |
It was truely awesome. Another One Bites The Dust was a shock but sounded great. I think the Guitar Solo may have been cut short due to the timings of adding a new song. The crowd were really up for it as well. Did they really come back out later on or was somebody just fooling around? |
Fenderek 07.05.2005 04:42 |
AOBTD was indeed great. I feel so lucky- the two shows I saw so far and two new tracks- first it was Under Pressure (much better version in Birmingham), than Another... Paul sang it GREAT. He even did the participation bit in the middle- he / audience, he / audience. It was also a bit heavier. Overall Manchester gig seemed a bit better for me, even though this time I was 3-4 meters from Brian on the catwalk :) But saying that- A Kind Of Magic for the very first time ROCKED! This track really stood up, I don't know why- I didn't like it at Brixton nor in Manchester. Brian was pissed off at roadies- one of them kept putting the microphone at the centre of the stage when Paul was off anyway and first Brian hit it when playing solo and than during another track he stopped playing for a while, grabbed the mic and furiously throw it of stage. Gig was fun, was really good. i think Paul is saving his voice for the Sheffield. It's going to be really interesting to see what setlist are they gonna prepare for the DVD shot- would be logical to perform "ultimate" one- WITH The Show Must Go On... |

i was completely blown away!awesome.they were all really impressive, i agree with pcgenius about Brian's solo, but overall great! i didnt notice any mistakes at all :-S |
Khizzy 07.05.2005 06:54 |
It was a brilliant gig! Paul's voice was in decent form, apart from the last few songs, where his voice did break a little if I remember. Brian did fuck up a little bit of the middle acoustic solo of Love Of My Life and also some parts of I Want It All and another song. Roger was in great form vocally and also on the drums... I quite enjoyed the drum solo, a lot of the crowd really got into it. Oh yeah and he changed part of the lyric to TATDOOL from "when I look and I find no change" to "when I look and find... Brian May!" - superb! A few songs really surprised me... Last Horizon with the light show thing going on was beautiful, All Right Now was really good - some great audience interaction in that song. Brian spoke quite a bit to the crowd during the acoustic bits, and said that he remembered Birmingham before most of us were born! And also the fact that Bingley Hall (a place just outside of Birmingham in Stafford) inspired him to write WWRY!! Interesting. Another One Bites The Dust was really good I thought, very well performed and AKOM was decent but its light show was very impressive. |

Saw Queen last night at Birmingham and have to admit that when Paul was not on stage it rocked as much as it ever did. Paul is a great singer but think that he can't do justice to all the Queen songs, whether this was down to his voice problems. It was obvious when he was doing the Free stuff he had the power but not with the rest. Difficult to fill the shoes left but felt that it proved that Brian and Roger could easily have done the whole evening alone and had the same result. Please I am not saying that Paul isn't a good singer, cause he is but not sure that his style mixes as well with the Queen set. Was a great night and hope that it at least lives long in the memory as Newcastle in 86 does. Best moment was TATDOOL with the two guys obviously enjoying being together on stage. I do feel that this will be the last outing for "Queen" but truely hope not. Just glad I took my son this time. |
Banquo 07.05.2005 12:07 |
What's happened to Brian's voice? He was immense last night. Anyway a very good gig. Paul Rodgers is very good apart from AKOM which was shit. It helped that the crowd was really up for it. Loved Bo Rhap thought it was a very nice touch to have Freddie there. Even Brian's solo which I heard from the Bar sounded OK. |
RMT 07.05.2005 12:39 |
I was disappointed by the evening as a whole...Paul Rogers kind of spoiled it for me. I didn't particularly enjoy the drum or guitar solo. The highlights were definately the Brian and Roger sang material (except Ga Ga which felt decidedly karaoke!), and the banter between them was great. I loved 'Last Horizon', it felt totally perfect and fitted the occasion perfectly. I won't be going to see another Queen+PR show, but other solo tours or duo ventures then I'll be along :-) |
Banquo 07.05.2005 12:50 |
Also loved Roger taking the piss out of Paul's 'tossing microphone in the air and catching it' by chucking his own Drum Sticks in the air and not catching one of them. Eyesight problems possibly. |
Professor Snowy 07.05.2005 13:48 |
I know it's a bit techie (and sad!)... but wasn't it spooky that the bottom left VOX AC30 gave up and got changed mid way through AOBTD! |

Was in the front row in front of the catwalk for last night's show, and it was absolutely stunning...Although this is the only show I've seen (flew in from the States for it!) I can't imagine any other topping it. Brian was obviously moved...I think the *tiny* screw up on LOML was because he was weeping openly and quite overcome...It was beautiful. And TATDOOL had ME weeping openly. Paul Rodgers was spectacular, seemed very happy and voice very, very good. Also, I don't have the faintest idea why anyone dislikes A Kind of Magic...I thought it was excellent. The whole band seemed so honestly happy to be there. I know I was. After 14 years of being a fan, I've finally seen my heroes in person, and they blew me away. I thank them all for giving us this opportunity to see them. I would love links to photos, if anyone's got any. I took some on a shitty disposable, but haven't had them developed yet, and I'm sure some folks have better on their digitals. Still, eventually I'll have them put on cd and upload them to anyone who wants them...Some *may* be very, very good if the lighting turned out OK. Thanks also to all of you who gave me advice on how to go about preparing for the show, etc. It was a HUGE help. Tomorrow: flying back to the States! Greg |

Hi all - newbie here. First off, I'm 20 - so I never thought I'd get to see a Queen(ish) concert, so I'm chuffed to bits. It was, in short, spectacular. The highlights: - Roger! His drumming gave everything and his voice was superb. The singing while at the kit was just as good (Hammer, Pressure) so it's almost that Paul isn't required; but.... - Paul Rodgers - a real surprise. People that went there expecting an old-style Queen gig might have been disappointed. I went with an open mind and was blown away. His voice is amazing! If they do this again in a few years (here's hoping!), don't keep Paul off stage so long! He led it well and did it his own way - I approve! - Love of My Life - I don't think I need to say much here. There were tears in my eyes and it'll stay with me forever. - The slow Hammer to Fall - I remember Brian celebrating that they had 6 singers in this band. The vocal harmonies here were superb. So good, in fact, that it's a pity that they didn't do more close harmony singing elsewhere. Not many well established bands can perform harmonies that well: so for six singers who ain't been together all that long it was oustanding. Other points: First - A Kind of Magic. The reviews on here had been almost universally critical of this song. In which case I think they must have changed it, because it really had a Wembley 86 feel to it. On the down side this was the one and only song where I wasn't that keen on the way Paul sang it. But the song itself swang great - the middle section (with keys from Spike) had that great Wembley sound to it. Given what I was expecting, this song was a great surprise. And, AOBTD. Really very good. In the middle (again just like Wembley) Paul had a go at Freddie-esque call and response. Not as good as the great one, but a more than decent stab at it. He has the strength of voice to carry it off. Any criticisms? Not many. As far as the set's concerned, I'd have like much more from the Mircale/Innuendo albums. The Mircale would be a great song live (another Freddie masterpiece) and Headlong would rock well. As far as the tour's concerned, a couple of video screens on each side relaying the concert would have been good - like the recent Paul McCartney tour. Keep the screen at the back of the stage as it is, but two mounted side screens would be a good addition for those at the back who can't see all that well! There's so much I could say but I doubt anyone's even made it this far! Sorry! In short, it exceeded all my expectations. It had me moved and laughing more than expected, and the brilliance of the emotions you expect to feel was indescribable. I hope I get to do it again! |

Ian, A great post. I agree, LOML had me in tears and was a stunning moment I'll remember for the rest of my life. It was an honor to be there to see them back in action. Greg |

welcome Ian! where abouts were you standing for the concert? i thought exactly the same, screens would have been good but i LOVED the fact they played old footage from the 70s of freddie and the rest of the band, and LOML was extremely touching. |

The Birmingham gig was fantastic. That was my third gig and it keeps getting better. The band are interacting better, they're more relaxed and there's some humour. The new songs work well, e.g. Under Pressure instead of The Show Must Go On. Well, this tour is over for me now. Best wishes to those of you who have yet to see them! Oh, and GregM - I must have been standing right behind you - best place in the house and well worth 4 hours standing! |
