Just came accross a book on the net that i've never heard of and was wondering if anyone on the forum ever read it.It sounds bizare... This women Mary Howis claims that The spirit of Freddie communicates with her and that she has been chosen for a specail mission to be an instrument for the spirit world and that freddie wants to let us know that there is much more after this life and this is proof that there is life after death. She says she knew she was destined to write this book even though she knew she would be ridiculed for telling freddies story, but that she wrote it in the hope it would bring some comfort and hope to those who are suffering nad greiving for freddie and loved ones. I am intruiged and am going to buy the book, but has anyone read it and what are your views?? This lady is also holding free public lectures in St Johns hall in Penzance Cornwall on the 30th of April and 1st of May. This is the site i got the info on link someone from queenzone should attend to see what she has to say........... |
Fairy 14.04.2005 12:59 |
Gee! Since I too had some spiritual contact with Freddie in the past I'll certainly contact her somehow!!! Then maybe she'll be able to confirm to me if my experiences were real or not. Unless....she is a fake. Thanks Fairy |
AC 14.04.2005 13:55 |
Fairy, if I remember correcly what the book is about, you better not contact the author... only wasted time. |

yea i was wondering if the book was any good, |
Fairy 14.04.2005 14:54 |
Thanks AC. I don't want to contact a freak! Could you tell me more? Why do you think she's not worth being contacted? I mean the fact she's in contact with the spirit world is questionable as all metaphysical experiences are, but are there other reasons why you don't like her? Thank you. Fairy |

I didn't get many responses when I asked this question. I want to buy the book. I had an experience, but I'll keep it to myself...noone will believe me anyway. |
Fairy 14.04.2005 17:47 |
Guys, I just found this review on the book by Mary Howis, written by a psychic. I guess AC is right... "I first met Mary in 1991 at a spiritualist meeting and have made contact with Freddie Mercury many times since. I have no doubt at all that it’s him sending Mary all these messages and poems. The fact that someone who was a huge superstar should communicate from spirit is not surprising or unusual. “Ordinary” mortals do this when they pass over, so why not so-called “stars”? From what I have heard from this spirit he is not interested in Freddie Mercury, the celebrity. He believes he wasted his life and now wants to get the message across that the spirit world is all around us. He realises that giving his name will add clout to that message and make people listen....." If Freddie is really watching us from the spirit world - and I believe it - why should he feel he has wasted his time on Earth? Especially considering the thousands, or millions of people his music has helped and made happy!! He may have regrets like anybody else, but if his spirit is trying to tell us he has wasted his life....it's not really worth reading it. Sounds like this lady won't be the one who can solve my dilemmas about my own experiences SIGH. He was a "sinner" :-) but he also had strong values like friendship and love, he helped millions and suffered the fires of hell on Earth...Doesn't sound like him at all to me. It just sounds like someone using the popular image of Freddie the sinner (the fucker!) now giving out spiritual messages, just to sell books... AyC when you have time please tell us more about the book, if you have read it. Thanks! Fairy |

I had "experiences" for many years. Unfortunately now not anymore. I think we will never be 100% certain these experiences are real, because these things are larger than us and we are so skeptical we will never believe them fully, not even when our physical world is actually changed by the spirit, as it happened to me once - only once. I keep an open door, without being obsessed by it. All I know is that these experiences have made me extremely happy, and their memory still does. I just think this lady may not be what we're looking for. But I haven't read the book yet. Fairy |

Wasn't it published in 2004? I just ordered it. It will take a couple of weeks to get here too. I read more reviews. It sounds like she's honest but there doesn't seem to be much evidence that it is really Freddie, except for her meeting with Peter Freestone to whom she gave a message from Freddie. She and Peter became friends, so maybe if Peter didn't think she was a fake, that may mean something... What do you guys think? I'll write to her if I find the book truthful. Fairy |

Sorry i read an article about her wrong and thought it was pubilshed in 1994 not 2004 my mistake....Cant believe that she claims freddie has met up with John Lennon!!!She says that there are lots of things in the book which do not make sence to her and she's hoping those who read the book might be able to answer the riddles...interesting.... And the message she had to give to peter freestone (pheobe) that repaired the rift which troubled the pair before freddie's death????,cant wait to hear about that.xx |

QZ I do believe in the possibility of the spirit world, unexplained phenomena...but this lady is plain flat out out a scam, con artist and I don't like her using Freddie and his name and or "spirit" to line her wallet. I read this stuff and it's a joke. Only I'm not laughing. What a looney bird! |
nasty_queenie 17.04.2005 04:16 |
The psychic person sounds a bit dodgy saying that Freddie reckons he wasted his life... didn't he once say that he'd done pretty much everything he wanted to do and he wouldn't mind if he died tomorrow? |
Fairy 17.04.2005 06:28 |
I agree with Arlene and many others on QZ. I strongly believe (or hope) in the spirit world. As I said before I have had Freddie-related experiences, which I feel were real. But I think claiming to know personal stuff about Freddie which even his close friends on earth deny is not just scam, but is shameful and offensive to Freddie, his dear ones, and even those of us who never met him but who love and respect him. Freddie deserves his privacy even in the spirit world! And of course not, he cannot feel he has wasted his life! Fairy |
Bobby_brown 17.04.2005 11:29 |
This is my first post!! (I´m from Portugal so i'm sorry for my english). If you are a spiritualist person, by definition, you have to believe that nothing happens by accident. Well, if you're looking for hidden messages in the Queen music probably you'l find them. Now, this doesn't means that they have made them with that intention. Probably, it was not! Let me give you an example: The first time i heard "It's a beautiful day" i thought it was written during Freddie's last year of life. He sang that song with such passion and, the lyrics were so apropriate for that album that you could only think that. But, for what it appears, it was written and recorded during the sessions for the Game album in 1980 when Freddie was still healthy!! Of course, in that day Freddie didn't walked into the studio saying - "Let's record this sad song because i'm going to die in 1991 with Aids and this will be on the farewell album". What could have happened is that he might have felt an inner strenght leading him to do that. After recording it, he might have listened back to it and think: "Strange that i've recorded something like this" and then tottally forget about it at all! Even though he didn't realise at the time, he was dealing with the Master Plan for his life, and if you look back you can now realise the perfection of the situation. You can think the same way about "Heaven for everyone" and so forth. Note: This applies to everyone of us. If you look carefully around you, you can see this related links between past and present in everybody's lifes. This is just to tell you that everything has a conection to everything else. And it's perfect the way it is. Even if you don't see perfection at the present with some situation, just let you know that in the end it will all fit toghether and the Big Plan will be accomplished and the circle will be complete! Is this clear for you, or you don't agree with it at all? |

Hi Bobby! And welcome. I totally agree with you. For instance, I always feel as if "Breakthrough" was written just for myself, but unfortunately I guess it's not true LOL. You're very right. And I love your idea that everything happens for a reason and that maybe those songs written long ago were inspired to Freddie, Roger and so on by some higher plan. But when I speak of spiritual contact I actually mean feeling the spirit's presence, a material presence beside you which can even give you signs of different kinds. Take care Fairy |
Bobby_brown 17.04.2005 15:49 |
To feel a spirit's presence it's absolute possible! There are so many history's with people of all kinds of religions all around the world that it makes no sense why people still don't believe it can happen. I mean, i can find a logical reason for that to be possible, but i cannot find any logical reason for that not to happen except "It can't happen because it can't". Now, regarding the signs issue, What i can say to Fairy is that they can happen. This is called sincronycity ( i don't know how to write this one). Imagine that you are now thinking about a loved one that passed away and by "accident" you find his/her picture in the middle of some papers or you start to listen to a music that relates to both of you. Is this a sign or coincidence? By definition there are no coincidences, so ... You decide what it is. you can move on saying it's a coincidence and you miss the beauty of it, or you can say thank you for your loved one and start a real conversation. I think the second one would make you a more happy person. What i'm trying to say is that if you start paying attention to this signs, and believe them for what they are, you can receive some directions for your own live. There are no coincidences in the universe, everything is related to everything else!! Even the fact that i'm writing this message is no coincidence. It has a purpose. Perhaps someone of you needed to read this message. I just don't know! What i say to you Fairy is follow your feeling's. They're allways right, and don't let anybody else say otherwise! Live your live- This applyes to all of you! Take care! |
Fairy 18.04.2005 05:57 |
Hi Bobby!!! Thanks for your beautiful message. It sure had a purpose...Someone needed to read it. Me!! I totally agree with you. I just don't want to see signs where in fact there are no signs...But if we dismiss everything as sheer coincidence, yes, we will miss the beauty of it all. I always wonder why I should feel Freddie's presence, and not the presence of dear ones who have passed away. But I guess Freddie has more energy than most spirits, and the power of music can evoke him. Love! Fairy |

hey everyone!I was reading alot of your messages and well some of you might get mad at me but i actually think Freddie is actually communicating with us.An for those of you wondering why Freddie thinks he wasted his life the answer is he was very hedonistic in his life before AIDS and he was very vain some say.I also remember reading a huge article on mary's book and he says he thought he couldv'e done so much more rather than be an extravagant hedon. Also in that interview"If i die I've done it all ect. ect."well he just had gotten the disease i guess and was still learning his mistakes, also maybe to hide it.But i believe in an interview around 1989 he says -"Im to old to rock nroll now"and he seems like a changed man.In an amount of 7-8 years F.M changed alot. Also Mary AUSTIN or fred merc. says "this is the real me(or him)staying at home"while getting more ill he stayed in mostly.I would say(I am carefully trying not to judge fred this is just my opinion)that underneath it all fred only desired to be normal and that family company was his thing besides music. Many friends say he loved being close to family and cared for them.During his early years i'd say he was trying to fit in with people of that time.BTW from wat others know he distanced himself from being and indian and cut all ties with zanzibar and india once he was growing in fame.Believe it or not back in the day england was very racial of outsiders like fred.O>k hope this is useful for you mates!Sayonara and R.I.P Fred :) |

This is such a load of bollocks isn't it. She had never heard of Freddie Mercury before that. Is she deaf? You can't have been alive in the 70's and 80's and been an adult yet not heard of Freddie Mercury. Like you can't have been alive in the 60's and 70's and not heard of Mick Jagger. In the USA I never listened to the radio because I didn't like and still don't like dj nonsense-chatter, advertisements, and racist, sexist, homohobic comments that were so prevalent in the 60s, 70s, 80s. Also in the 70s I lived in a small town (population 1,301) in the middle of farmland Minnesota. We had a lot of polka music. A year ago there was an ad on TV for Viagra , and in the background was playing We Are The Champions. I thought that had to be the most inappropriate ad/music match ever, and I wondered who sang that song anyway. The internet brought up about 38,000 references. I am catching up for lost time. To date I have about 20 books, 15 cds, 12 dvds, 9 vhs, one large banner and 50 colored photos of Freddie hanging on a wall. I am smitten. One nice thing about becoming a fan later on in life is that I don't have to wait for the next album to come out! |

from a link I found that doesn't work anymore "A special meeting When I was in England for my own personal development on mediumship, I picked up a PN article about Freddie Mercury, Queens front man and the experiences people have with him after he passed (May 2004 Issue Number 3747). I was shocked to read that people also get evidence like I do. Mediumship in Belgium is very hard though I think, luckily, the situation is getting better. There are no spiritualist churches as such like England and there are no development circles what so ever. Working as a medium for quite a few years in Belgium and abroad is a nice job to do and it is always nice to know how different people have the same proof about life on the other side. Freddie Mercury has been an icon in music history and a very loved celebrity in the UK and still is. He wants the people to know that indeed there is life on the other side and he is doing fine. Me, myself, has never been into Queen’s business or even wanted contact with any pop star but it all started a few years ago. One of the absolute top performances is his life 8 act in 1985 with Radio gaga. Click the following link to see it link Fred came to me and sat on my sofa in my living room and asked me, a bit shy, “did I scare you?” As quick as he came he vanished again. I saw a solid appearance and I asked him to come back again. Weeks later he was there again with a message. I have later found out that a famous medium, Keith Hall, was given my name from spirit to whom he had to pass on to someone in England, this person being Mary Howis who had recently written a book with Freddie’s messages ‘The Mercury Man’. Mary Howis and Keith hall Freddie spoke to me and gave many beautiful philosophies about the other side. He is not interested in today’s business regarding to his past life so he call it. It was for him very frustrating in the beginning seeing is friends grieving and for him to understand that general people don’t have contact with you on the other side. “I was totally shocked”, he said seeing my worn out body laying in the bed. “Oh gosh, is this me, I am looking like an 80 year old sod” he said. Trying to calm down his friends at his bedside, telling them and persuading them that he was ok Freddie went into panic for a while not instantly understanding what was happening. “Not only him, everybody who is passing has to go through this state of event” he explained. “I am around to let people know I am alive and kicking” he added and showed me a folder with information about the things he wanted me to know. So I asked him why he came to me and he said “because I am around”. I asked him permission to take photographs with my Polaroid camera and he told me “yes, because I want to prove that I am still here”. In the old days it was a habit to take photos and experimenting with photography was very common and lately, digital cameras often give a great catch. I took several pictures with my Polaroid camera, the first ones being orbs and after a while Freddie became more vivid. “I am still looking handsome” he smiled. He wants to let us know he cares. I am very privileged having these pictures and now the time has come to shared my experience with many. For safety reasons I cannot publish them on the internet. It would cause to much speculation and I have respect for his family and friends. If you are interested to see the pictures you can contact me. No tabloids or paparazzi please. I am a professional medium and I like to have contact with professional people who have respect for these things. Freddie has given me very personal messages for friends and relatives but unfortunately no one seems interested. I have to say that I do know many people claim to have heard Freddie and it might be possible and everyone has the free will to investigate. I have entire respect for Freddie’s family and friends and sharing |

I read this book twice and found it to be fascinating! I actually believe every word of it, as the author appears to be completely sincere. All her communications with Freddie appear in the form of poems that he writes her periodically. She did get to know Peter Freestone for a while, when he opened a pub nearby her home. I believe Peter also makes mention of her in his second book, FREDDIE MERCURY THE AFTERLIFE. |

I believe Peter also makes mention of her in his second book, FREDDIE MERCURY THE AFTERLIFE.I've read it too, and I think it's very true. One of her poems she got from Freddie, describes how his biggest fear was that he would never find love etc. Well, that's completely the way Freddie was!! Also, like mrfart (hehe) writes, she never mentiones that Freddie thought his life was a waste, she writes that he told her he didn't have any regrets, but that he could have done so much more. I've to agree with mrfartpants this time :) I'll quote some sentences of poems she got through: 'Freddie Mercury was my name And it brought me wealth and fame But underneath I was just me Just one more person longing to be Loved and cared for, cherished and caressed' 'It wasn't a waste My time down on eath Was only a waste Of something eternal' 'My fear was I wouldn't find love My hopes were, I'd make people see I came for a purpose My voice was a gift I reached out and made myself known But I never knew living a life such as this Would make me feel so alone I was famous and I know that And loved by the crowds But inside I always seemed lost So the life that I lived And the way that I was In the end, I just paid the cost But I wasn't unhappy For all of my life My music and songs were my life I spent many years in the clouds in a dream Thinking I was the only one Because people adored me And they seemed to love me But from a distance, was all they could see But people seemed to prefer it like this first They said it might change my image Of what they wanted to hear and see If they would finally met me It hurt at first, but I learned to accept That this was the easiest, this was the best Then there would be no disappointment of my image on stage Because my image on stage, it wasn't really me When I stepped up there, I was a different man Whereas off stage, I was private Liked to spend the time alone' 'I lived a reckless life. Because of it I used to say if a bomb would drops on us, so what, don't worry about it. If there was something that was a threat in my life, I would just say so what, that was my attitude. I loved life and took the consequences of that love, so what, I lost my responsibility especially in my younger years. The first thing I realised when I passed on to the spirit world was I could have done so much more........I feel I did not do my share. I should have done but don't let the world think that I am sad, because I'm not. I did on earth everything I wanted to do, but my way, sometimes without any cares of the consequences......I have no regrets for myself but I had to die to know that I should have done so much more' Decide for yourself :) |

I think she's ripping you all off. She's never said anything about Freddie that didn't come out before or after his death. |

Amateur poetry. She's about as genuine as John Edwards. My sister has seen shit that'd turn BB King WHITE, so it's pretty easy for me to tell when someone's a fraud. |

My goodness, I can't believe 4 pages of webspace have been wasted on this pseudo-spiritual money-grabbing crap. |
The Real Wizard 27.12.2006 13:03 |
I've read the synopsis, and it looks like a load of crap. For someone like myself with a rational mind interested in the physical world, interacting with dead people isn't something I'm particularly interested in. I'm happy enough with Humpty Dumpty if I'm in the mood to read fairy tales. |

Why not read it before passing judgment? I also am a rational person, but I believe there is a lot more around us than just the physical world. I recognize that there are many scam artists out there just hoping to take your money. However after reading this book, I am left with a strong impression that this woman is not one of them. I believe that she is telling us the truth. |
john bodega 27.12.2006 21:01 |
Oh no, I'm extremely open minded concerning the metaphysical. I just know that I'm not going to learn anything by paying money to read crap devised by this con artist. I could've written this book, without ever 'meeting' Freddie Mercury's spirit. There's a beautiful quote in South Park when they're making fun of John Edwards actually; to the effect of, if there is an afterlife, do you really think your lost relatives want to hang around for all eternity talking to THIS asshole?? (The asshole, in this case, being the author of this ridiculous book). It's contrived junk. She should do a double feature with J K Rowling. |

I borrowed it when I heard about it the last time it got brought up. It's hammy, disingenuous and trite. |

Someone couldn't wait.. as if I don't have better things to do than write a crap post about a crap book. :P Gaw it's nice to be loved. So; I disagree with you, having read the same texts, but it's an invalid opinion because you say 'it is just good'. Excuse me, Bill O'Reilly is calling on line 2... I don't agree with you. I'm open to spooks and metaphysics and things that halfwitted authors cannot properly explain, but I am not open to this blatant profiteering piece of nonsense. I could've written this book, without ever meeting Freddie Mercury's ghost. |

I am puzzled by your strong negative reaction to this book. If you are open to psychic phenomena, why are you so sure that Mary is not communicating with Freddie? I was a sceptic myself before reading it, but by the time I finished the book, I had no doubt that this woman was telling the truth. I have read just about every book that was written about Freddie Mercury and the poetry throughout this one brings forth many facts about his life. More than that though, is that it brings forth ideas about him that I had already formulated by reading between the lines of every other book. It confirmed many things that I had already guessed might be true regarding his relationships and how he viewed his life. Mary Howis would have to be extremely clever to have made all this up. She would also have to be extremely crass since she dedicated the book to her deceased mother, as well as featured stories and photos of her family, including her severely handicapped little grandson. I just don't see any deception here at all. |

"I was a sceptic myself before reading it, but by the time I finished the book, I had no doubt that this woman was telling the truth." Good for you. I didn't get the same feeling. "ok so write this book." If its all the same to you, I'd like to write a better one that didn't involve ripping people off. Well actually, that is a bit unfair - it's your money, enjoy what you buy with it. Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable flogging something like this unless it was strictly considered 'fiction'. But I'm sure the Bible started out as a 'collection of short stories' before people started taking it seriously. Hehe. Really though... you're allowed to wax lyrical on how much you like the book - am I not therefore blessed with the same opportunity to say how much I don't like it? |
