There are many possibilities that the concert will ben cancelled or postponed if Pope die.....we hope in a press relase of Queen |

digi190 wrote: the concert can't be cancelled because the stage of concert is already at Rome... so who would give back to Queen the money the cancelled gigs and relatives expenditures??? naaaaaah!! the concert will be done!!!The concert can be still cancelled in case that day of the gig will correnspod to day of the Pope's death. Now, it could that Q+PR will still go on with concert and make more unplugged which would be cool. I guess everything is possible at this stage. |
digi190 01.04.2005 09:46 |
The concert will be done certainly!!! I'm sure!!! then i explain why: 1 the concert will be stopped only if it is planned in the mourning day (giorno di lutto for italian readers) 2 the mourning day will be planned the day of the funeral of pope or the day after.. 3 the funeral of the pope will be done 10 days after his death!! 4 so... if for example the Pope dies today (i Hope no!!!!) the mourning day will be planned for the 10-11 of April... and the italian gigs are from 4 to 8 of April!! so there isn't no risk for italian gigs! they will be done regularly!!! This post is onli a FAKE ALARM so you can also delete it. And we all hope that the pope will stay alive!! |

I have been called to work for the elections (it's a lot of money). I had to reply "no" because of the concert (i would have finished work at 24 of the 4th!!!).Now i read about the Pope and I hope they won't cancel the gig: at that stage I would loose the money and the concert.... |

14 hours by ship from sardinia to rome. i have to take it today at 6 pm, arriving in rome in the morning after. I don't have a work, and i spent 52 € for the Queen ticket + 40 € for the ship. this is not a fortune but it's quite a lot for me. i hope to hear news soon, i could agree to see the concert postponed but i'm really afraid to arrive in rome and see that there'll be no gig. this is from brianmay.com: link I'm agnostic so i don't believe in god and i'm not a religious person but i respect the Pope, THIS pope very much. i admire him as a person. some people here should show respect and stop acting like dumbs... Anyway, whatever will be i need to know soon...in mexico ppl uses to get drunk at funerals..i think it's not lack of respect to have the gig anyway, they may dedicate a joyful night to his memory. I'm really excited about the concert, but sad about the pope. and worried about my trip, i really dreamed about it in a different way... :-((( |

Ok, but you should write in english anyway. According to BM site (link: Mr Jim Beach, Queen's Manager, was asked this morning whether the situation with the Pope would affect the Italian dates, and his view is that concerts will still go ahead. However, as he says, no-one knows what the government will do - they haven't had to deal with anything like this for 28 years... BTW, All sporting events in Italy have been suspended this weekend. |

Surely it should be up to the individual to decide what they want to do in the circumstances. If the band decide not to play, they could rearrange the gig and offer refunds for those that can't attend the rearranged gig (a bugger for those that have to pay for travel & hotels that won't be refunded but that would be the groups choice. If they decide to play and an individual decides not to go to the gig then that is their choice - they will lose out on what they have paid out already or pass the ticket on to someone else. |

Benn 02.04.2005 16:32 |
I would imagine that Queen and their management will take it on advice regarding what the right and proper course of action is under these circumstances. Brian, Roger & Paul (as well as the rest of the band) will have their own thoughts and feelings about what has happened to The Pontiff and I would fully expect that they will take a vote amongst themselves before going ahead with the show. It will certainly only be a postponement - there will be far too many contract details to battle through if they were to actually cancel the show outright - it'll just be slotted in to the end of the tour I should imagine. My thoughts and feelings go out to all Catholics at this sad time. |

It's a sad situation all around. It's difficult to put the momentum of the tour on hold and it be difficult to re-schedule--I think they will do some of the shows next week unless (as Jim Beach pointed out) the Italian Government forbids any type of entertainment during the week. My heart goes out to all of you who have tickets for these shows. |
QueenCollector 03.04.2005 04:47 |
Compliance Queen wrote: unless (as Jim Beach pointed out) the Italian Government forbids any type of entertainment during the week.Hello! Just a quick message to say what is the real point about the Italian Government and the words of Jim Beach. We live in a democratic place here, so there is no way for a Government to stop any entertaiment. The point is that Rome is waiting for something like 2 millions of pilgrims from all over the world. Being one of the most civil Countries, we have to give support and help for these pilgrims and news agencies said that the sport-palaces around the City will be used to give hospitality to these people. Amongst the other palaces has been done the name of the Palalottomatica (ex-PalaEUR) that is the place where Queen+ P.R. should play. At this point, the problem is not the three days of National mourning that starts from today and goes up to Tuesday (plus a further day the day of the funerals), as this doesn't affect the private activities. The real problem is the use that the Government will do of the Palalottomatica. This is going to be discussed in this moment as the Ministries have a council about that at 9:00 AM today. I live in Sicily and have payed EUR 148,00 for the airplane ticket for Rome and around EUR 80,00 for the ticket of the concert. I will feel very sad to lose either the concert either the money of the travel. Maybe the next time that Brian and Roger will plan to play here in Italy they will try to go to play in the South as well the Centre-North. Roger did sold-out concerts here in Palermo, Catania and Naples back in the 1995. Queen+ P.R. didn't do the sold-out in Florence and Pesaro. This meant something. Giancarlo |

Where can I find some news about the gig in Rome?I'm from napoli and I must buy Train's ticket for Rome! (Sorry for my english;I know it is horrible) |
uglygeek 03.04.2005 05:46 |
ciao Ammy, I advise you to wait until we will have more information about what is going to happen. At the moment nobody knows for sure. After all the gig is tomorrow night and Napoli is only a couple of hours of train from Rome... However, I do believe the Rome date will be postponed (or cancelled), so don't buy any tickets yet. Roman authorities have now too many things to organize, to handle the arrival of 2 million pilgrims, to worry about an (a bit inopportune) rock concert. Besides, Palalottomatica is very likely to be used to host pilgrims. After all, Queen themselves would look insensitive if they played tomorrow and in Rome. However, I may be wrong: the barleyarts site reports the news of the Pope's death but still confirms all the dates. Maybe the reasons of the $$$ will triumph once again... |
Mr. Scully 03.04.2005 06:01 |
It's sad that the Pope died and I know the council in Rome will have heaps of problems with all the millions of incoming people but - is it really possible in democracy to ban a rock concert and cancel an agreement about hiring the venue etc.??? I refuse to believe that. |

The point is: a rock concert is NOTHING compared to this fact. Being catholic or not doesn't matter, Karol Woityla has been a very important man of the modern times and today the whole world pays tribute to him: everywhere tv, newspapers, radio, agencies are talking about him, giving him credit for what he's done. I'm sorry for all the disappointed people, I'm sorry for those who may lose some money on it, but I have to say that even money and even Queen are on a second floor for me, now. About the possible delete of the Rome gig: people who complain about it simply can't understand what's gonna happen in Rome in the next days: milions people are getting there and it's gonna be a mess. Even if the concert will be finally held, just don't think it will be everything easy, travelling to, in and from Rome will be very difficult for days. This is about the "Queen related" aspects of the fact. About the specific death of the chief of the Church, it's up to everyone's soul though I feel very disgusted by some posts I've read here: some of you have really no respect and no intelligence, shame on you. |

I think that the Pope was a good person but it doesn't mean that i have to leave one of my dreams (queen concert). The concert in rome means to me the first positive thing in my life after 2 years that i wish i could totally forget now.I was waiting this show like a new beginning, a new start to take the strenght to make order in my life. The life on the earth goes one, there are a lot of good people that die every day, children that lose the right to live a real life in a few days, and nobody knows of them. Life must go on.If you aren't agree sell the tickets and let other people to attend the show. But i'm quite sure that you will attend the shows as well if they will be confirmeed!!!!!!!!! |

According to the Brian's site and the barleyarts site, Queen are decided to go on with their shows. However, according to an important newspaper (link the Palalottomatica will be at disposal of the pilgrims: [A disposizione dei fedeli saranno anche il Palalottomatica e il palazzetto dello sport, la Fiera di Roma, il palazzo dei congressi e diverse strutture dell'Ente Eur] So, I really don't see how they can play in Rome tomorrow. |
bas asselbergs 03.04.2005 14:46 |
THE SHOW MUST GO ON....if Queen can play with Freddie gone, then playing with the pope gone shouldn't be a problem ! With the whole world press being there, better and more free publicity they couldn't wish for! If Queen dedicate the show to the pope, then they will certainly have the sympathy of millions all over the globe ! Heaven for everyone , all gods people, in the lap of the gods, those songs could be played now! |
ammy6 03.04.2005 14:48 |

uglygeek 03.04.2005 14:56 |
Bas, the problem is not playing All God's People rather than Fat Bottomed Girls. The problem is, they don't seem to have a place where to play tomorrow in Rome in the first place! It's rather disturbing that we can't still have sure information about the tomorrow gig. If Palalottomatica really will be available to pilgrims, the band/barleyarts should know by now, and they should inform the fans that by now are ready to go to Rome. |

"The decision not to move the Queen concert programmed tonight in Rome has been a choice of awful taste" said the Chief of "Protezione Civile", Guido Bertolaso. "I did everything I could to have it suspended or postponed, and I'm still trying to do so, and I hope in the end the reason will prevail. Since it is a private happening, I can't block it, if not for reasons of public order. I'm discussing with the authorities trying to solve this problem. Should no solution be found, if I can express myself, they can go on with their gig, and I hope nobody will go". So far my [poor] translation. So, either way, Queen reputation will not exit very well from all this. I supposed they could not get away with that so easily... |
