The band sound great, upon relistening. Paul Rodgers has a great voice, his lyrics were down to nerves and we only heard a butchered edit. I think we're all really disappointed because the thing was heavily edited... so we're letting out our frustration unfairly on the band. And - I loved Roger Taylor's drumming. He's really got into drumming shape again... |
Steve P 19.03.2005 18:23 |
No way was it sad, lets give them a bit of time, a lot of support, but most of all the opportunity for us to listen to the WHOLE of their setlist - not just 3 songs and Katie M warbling her way through TMLWKY |
Steve P 19.03.2005 18:25 |
I heard Freddie make a bigger mess of some of the numbers and he sang some of them for 10 years, PR has had a month |
hcrvelin 19.03.2005 18:25 |
Yup. The drum sound was really good. Almost everyone noticed that Rog looks old and tired. Actually, you can see that on some earlier performances too. But his sound was really good. Since they all agreed to be back on tour I would expect that Rog knows he has enough energy for whole tour and thus he agreed. |
Boy Thomas Raker 19.03.2005 18:41 |
First off, it was their first gig. Yes, he fucked up some words, but that could be nerves. And what's with everyone threatening to go to Brian's soapbox to bitch? Yes, it was disappointing to see only 4 songs. Better than no songs? absolutely! And the same crew moaning about 4 songs would be bitching about seeing 15 and having the surprise of knowing what would be played at the concert they're going to. Can't please everyone. |
pirrakitas 19.03.2005 18:54 |
Imagine that the only live performance of Bohemian Rhapsody you have listened to is from the Zoom bootleg (Osaka 1976). What you would think of Freddie? I am sure Brixton will be great! |
k-m 19.03.2005 18:56 |
WWRY and WATC were the last songs of the show. Don't you think Paul should feel more relaxed by then? Probably he messed up the other songs as well and that's why he was still nervous at the end of the concert. And I hate his bluesy manner too. |

If you have a ticket you might as well sell it because it will be a big letdown for you. Me, I'm a big Free/Bad Co fan as well as a Queen fan. So I love his bluesy manner. If I lived in Europe I would buy your ticket. |

Just listened to We Are The Champions. What is wrong with Paul?????????. He just forgot the line "I've made a few" (of mistakes!). So what?????? Freddie used to do the same with a lot of songs!!!! Long live Queen!!!!! PS: Tie Your Mother Down was awesome, and We Will Rock You, who cares about the lyrics? |
DrumBrother 19.03.2005 21:12 |
I can't believe all the negativity on these pages, I only had audio for some reason and to be honest it didn't sound as bad as it's been made out to be. Obviously it's been edited, how stupid can people be. Paul IS better than this but the guy has had to learn upwards of 20 Queen songs in a matter of weeks, cut him some slack. People were selling their tour tickets when this thing ended and were going to swamp Brian's website with complaints, call themselves Queen fan?????? Queen fans my arse |

It is a great comeback...just sad that we got screwed in having only 4 songs...why didn't they at least tell us this before....Since that is their first show together they are going to be fantastic...hear how cool Tie Your Mother Down was....Paul has a fantastic voice and stage presence...he'll get all the lyrics right in time too (Freddie made slip ups as well as does every performer) I'm so happy they are playing live again and Rockin!! This must be so great for them....Does anyone have a source on how to get the rest of the concert??? any friends in South Africa?? |
TheProphet 20.03.2005 01:23 |
It was a OK performance to be the first. PR just can´t learn 20 new songs on a few weeks, so you can´t really blame him that much. And don´t forget that TYMD was really good!!!!!!! |

Paul had more time to learn - not few weeks, but few months! They were preparing for it for a long time. Brian said it on Capital Gold interview recently. |

i thought it was good, not fantastic, but i enjoyed it, the sound of the band was great. PR was good, so he fucked up a bit let him get it out of his system now! they need to be a bit tighter in the chorus bits like in TYMD when all three are singing, but apart from that...Good. lookin forward to the proper tour. |
The Stealer 20.03.2005 08:32 |
For what I heard, TYMD, I thought it was pretty darn good. Keep in mind that this was not a proper gig-another one of those "one offs". It was an open air show as well-a little different to manage as well. We all listened to a butchered edit of 4 songs- Give them and Paul a chance! And oh- I seem to recall a one very nervous Brian May- forgetting lyrics or botching lyrics on his 1993 appearance on the tonight show in the USA. I also recall roger not rememebering lryics here and there or "changing" them on the electric fire tour on several nights. LIVE music is just that-Live. Things will happen..Roger, Brian and Paul are seasoned professionals and will rock the house every night of the tour! |
giov69 20.03.2005 08:56 |
i don t think it is a sad comeback, we only have 4 songs out of 10 to judge them and i can tell i am quite happy. First gig , first time, so? Give them the time. |

I'd like to think of myself as a fan (30 years of listening and more live concerts that I care to remember) However, being a fan does NOT mean being blind and deaf. The four songs I saw/heard yesterday were rough. Something went wrong - something wasn't right. However, in "Bri", Roger and Pauls defense (and God knows they need one) - those charity / multi band type gigs are always a little out of control. So...lets see what it sounds like at their Brixton gig. When "Queen" + PR are in full control with another 7 days rehearsal under their belts. I understand that nobody has claimed Paul Rodgers is a replacement for Freddie...but I tell ya - after seeing yesterdays effort it really reminds me WHY Freddie was so special! Bless ya Fred - you're sadly missed. J. PS - I wonder did Deacon have to change his shorts after seeing this performance :) |

You know.. for much time, i have agreed with the fact that Queen without Freddie and John was not Queen... But i have just heard the 4 songs available for download here from 46664... and i'll tell 'ya... I was surprised... I'm actually thinking it was a good idea for them to comeback! Roger is not looking very good (at least from the pics i've seen) but his drumming and his voice continue as powerful as ever... The only thing about Paul forgetting the lyrics is that when Freddie forgot them, the song would still be great, because he'd do his usual vocal things (how can you not like his "ram pam pam pam parampans in "Good old fashioned..." in Earls Court :-) ) Anyway... great TYMD!!! Just hope they come to Brazil.. hehehe |
FairyKing 21.03.2005 09:53 |
Well, I remember the 1st VHS I saw from Queen, and how i was waiting to hear "It's a hard life" performed LIVE. They recorded that song one year EARLIER but i remember Freddie singing: "you win, you lose It's a DARA DA DA DA of love".... Does this click to anyone? Paul Rodgers remembered the lyrics from WWRY and WATC on the Hall of Fame, and he had no display, so you must understand that he was simply tired/nervous, plus, there were about 25 C° in George, South Africa (excluding lights and other things on stage that surely raises temperatures up). Not the best climate for a concert like that, and we all know it's not so easy to remember so many new lyrics so quick. Ppl who was there on the 46664 gig told that Paul sung his 3 songs (the Bad Company ones) way better, cos he had just to concentrate on smilies and the approach with the crowd and so on, not on the lyrics. I say again. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you don't like it, don't steal us our fun and excitement. It will get better, but i like it that way too. I got sick of ppl who make comparisons with Freddie! Freddie was great but not perfect too. And ppl who loves music shold like and respect Paul Rodgers bluesy ways. Queen fans are the most severe I've ever known... |
boy of destiny 21.03.2005 11:47 |
I haven't seen the footage, so I can't give my opinion of the performance, but I do think that a concert of this scale probably wasn't the best idea for the first appearance of a new band. The Black Crowes for example are playing a series of warm up gigs in clubs before offically hitting the road. Better to work out the bugs in front of a few than before the world. IMO it's just common sense. I think that they may have let their egos in the way on this one. |
Libor2 21.03.2005 12:27 |
I saw the 4 tracks from 46664 concert just now. Should say it isn't as horrible as I'd expected (from some comments here and there). It's live music in fact - so there use to be some mistakes. If somebody wants perfection, then the best possible thing is to listen to CD (and not to visit live concerts). The best on live gigs is "magic of the moment". Some moments then could be great and, of course, some of them are worse. Queen with Freddie also weren't such fantastic on every gig (try to listen to some bootlegs). And one more thing. I'm here with Boy of destiny, who'd written about bad choose of start concert. I think the same. Such big actions are almost always PITA. Trouble with sound, a lot of musicians and other people around, expected or unexpected guests on the stage - in other words - true madhouse. Choosing such gig to start with rather "new" band is very brave, but it could end not too good sometimes. Yes, they all are skilled musicians, but anyway... So, what's the problem? Wait until first true tour concerts, then we'll see. If they're in the good shape (especially healthy) and if there isn't any personal trouble among them, I ain't afraid. |

I don't think it's a sad comeback....just a relatively average first gig at what I think was a poor choice of opening show!!. Can you imagine the critical outcry if Brixton had been like this? They would have been crucified with terrible reviews, fans in uproar and slagging off Brian, Roger & Paul and saying what a big mistake it had all been. Better to get the first rough gig out of the way before the real action starts. Like myself to an extent, our expectations of this tour are too high!!. People are very keen to see Brian & Roger perform and may be looking at the tour in a romantic way or through rose tinted glasses...expecting certain things to happen when they won't. Also, people may be familiar with Queen's vast catalogue and their many DVD releases and just can't imagine anyone singing other than Freddie. We're all going to have to accept the fact that this is Queen Mark 2...a resurrection from the ashes with a new singer, new arrangement style and new sound. It's time to move on as they say. Getting use to Paul's own interpretation of the songs will take time. I'm beginning to feel the songs as sung by Paul and not Freddie! He's no Freddie clone thank god so we'll all have to get used to it and give Paul some time to settle into his new role even if it is not permanent! We should be grateful I guess that Brian & Roger have decided to tour even if they don't come up to some people's idea of a Queen tour. |

It's their first proper concert together, so anybody who was expecting a perfect perfomance is a fool. Fair enough PR was constantly looking down to read the lyrics from the autocue but so what. What do we want to see for perfect words, PR miming like a lot of live performances now. No we want it live and if that means a couple of forgotten words so be it. It gives the charactor of a live perfromance so that all concerts are not the same. Remember that it is not just PR who is new to the band. There was also the fact that other things didn't go right that were out of the bands control like the Childrens Choir not coming on stage during WWRY after PR had introduced them. |

I consider and have too much respect for what Queen have done and accomplish to jump on anything that is released by Brian May and Roger Taylor because they were part of Queen. They are breaking the stigma around Queen and are solely doing money on Freddie's back. This shit suck, it's not Queen and I will continue to say it. If you don't agree, shove it! Long live to Queen of 1971-1991. |

If PR needed more time to learn, then why did they start touring now in the first place? Come on! Considering the price of the tickets he should have studied harder...LOL. Freddie could make any mistake and everyone would not care, because it was his show and he was where he belonged...Paul Rogers has nothing to do with Queen. He does not belong there at all. He is a decent singer but he is out of place singing the songs Freddie used to sing. Fairy |

NO time to read everyone's points of view unfortunaltey...but here's mine IMO Brian and Roger were great, Paul isn't at the top, maybe a bit nervous....he forgot lyrics in some "easy" moments.VOice in very good conditions anyway. The fact that the girl could not sing perfectly Too much love is maybe because the tune G was too low for her....anyway it was great to listen the "original" solo of too much love will kill you. The idea to let the children sing We are the champions was nice i think ;) just some mess in the end but it was the final moment. one question: where is Danny Miranda? :D no bass player on stage (visible) but i'm sure there's someone playing it. i can't wait to see the show In MIlanooooooooo! |
